Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Don't tell me there was some after credits stuff...
Anyway, saw it. Liked it.
Nope, no after credits stuff. I'm talking right at the end with <name removed> in the bar.
On that count, no clue.
The one asking the question or the one drinking? It was the same guy asking the question. Whoever was drinking, I dunno.
It was a competent little film. Everything you need to know about it is pretty much in the title. It's about our former president and he kills vampires. The movie never really tries to push beyond that, both to it's advantage and detriment.
I mean, if you go in expecting more you'll be disappointed. It's not a great film, but it is a pretty decent one. My only complaints are that 1) the pace is just a smidge too quick, they had a lot of material to cover and it really feels like a 'Bullet Point' style sum up to hammer out all the important bits, with some lengthier fight scenes thrown in. I just get the feeling the book is better (isn't it always?) because it gets to take more time to expand on things. 2) The action can just be hard to follow at key moments. It does a fairly credible job of showing everything but there are just times where things happen so fast I'm left going "What just happened?" and trying to piece it together via context of the aftermath.
That's about it though. It's not bad by any means, the characters are all ok, the action is decent, the plot is okay. Historically it does kind of trump up Lincoln's focus on slavery a -lot-, and kind of makes the war entirely about it which is really more a modern spin. Not to say it detracted from it, but it's -very- much historical fiction beyond just adding in the undead.
So it's not great, but it's certainly a good popcorn flick to hit up with friends. I'd rate it a pretty solid B. It's far from a 'must see' this summer, but if you'd seen everything else you won't really be disappointed with this one.
I'm talking the guy doing the drinking. The guy doing the talking is pretty obvious. I could be totally wrong on who it is as I didn't really pay attention to the details of him, but it was the first thought that popped into my mind. And if it is who I thought of, it would be very poetic considering what Lincoln did/was in this movie.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I enjoyed the book a little while back. I'm interested in the movie, but it's one that I'll probably wait for to show up on Netflix or something.

And there you'll always be

Anyway, just saw it this weekend and I really liked it! It could stand to be a little longer: Abe's transition from vampire-slaying loner to politician and then president seemed a little abrupt, and the idea of the antebellum South being secretly ruled by a vampire aristocracy is one I'd loved to see explored in more detail. Still, it moved quickly, the fight scenes were great and the story works better than any movie about Abraham Lincoln the Vampire Hunter should (the biggest hurdle I had in convincing friends to see it was explaining that it's not a parody).

Saw it a while back with my wife and enjoyed it. I think they managed to make an entertaining movie about Abe Lincoln killing vampires without actually sullying/tarnishing ole Abe's rep. Which in itself is an accomplishment and, for myself, this movie actually seemed like an original idea, or at least as close as we get to an original idea from hollywood most days.

Shhh! Rangle is plotting.
Saw this with my Dad. I actually wasn't very impressed with it--the action scenes were hard to follow, I didn't like any of the characters (with the exception of maybe the vampire-slaying mentor) enough to much care for them or what was happening to them and the movie took itself too seriously to really be campy fun. There was a lot of good ideas in the movie, they just felt like they weren't implemented all that well.
Actually, in terms of "weird mashups that just might work" movies, I thought Cowboys and Aliens was far, far better. (Which is especially shocking since the comic that movie was based on is really bad.)
That being said, the movie DID make me interested in reading the book, so it's got that going for it.
I saw it with the wife over the weekend. I wasn't really excited to go see it but it wasn't to bad. I agree that he really looked like Abe and it had some good CGI and fight seens were pretty good. It did move from him studing to be a lawyer to president really fast. I would be interested in reading the book tho.
I'm not sure if it's the one you're thinking of since I've never read it, but there's also Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

Found the one I was thinking of, it's Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter. There's also George Washington Werewolf out there.

Is there something wrong with just saying who you think it *might* supposed to be...?
Based on the outline of the head (tight hair, prominent ears) I thought, 'Is that supposed to be Barrack Obama?". History repeating itself...? Personally I think the movie-makers intended some of us to notice and think that, but of course can't prove it.
...because saying that spoils that the movie cuts to the present day at the end. -_-
SPOILERS!
...
...while it does kinda look like Obama, the ending also shows the character texting on a smartphone with streaming video, so the ending's not set during Obama's early years. It looks like it's set in the right-this-minute present day, which makes it really unlikely to be him: it's hard to imagine the current president would be able to sneak off to a bar with a gun to get drunk enough to try to shoot a vampire.

Anyone else see this yet? Just got back from it and I thought it was pretty neat. Good fight scenes and the guy playing Abe seemed to fit the part pretty well.
I may be crazy, but for those of you who've seen it, was the guy at the end who I think it is?
