Seems like this movie just keeps getting better and better....

now they have Hugh Laurie in talks to join the cast...

Samuel L Jackson is playing the part of Pat Novak, Gary Oldman is playing the part of Norton the creator of RoboCop and Joel Kinnaman is playing the part of RoboCop....

Who else are they going to get for this movie?

This is one remake I'm on the fence about.

I love RoboCop. It's one of my favorite movies, and the character designs and mannerisms leak into all kinds of characters I've played in any tabletop rpg or even MMO for as long as I can remember.

RoboCop is a great example of a simple story with a classic (and silly) premise played straight panning out. There are no Academy award winning performances in there, and some of the plot holes can safely handle a 747 flying through, but it looks and feels like it was taken seriously.

No attempt since has managed to recapture what made it what it was. I liked 2, but it wasn't good. I didn't like 3, and it was bad. I actually really liked the series, more than the two movie sequels, but wasn't the same. Perhaps because of the sliding rating - he was too marketable a figure to keep 'R', but part of the first movies feel was the R.

After so many attempts to recapture lightning in a bottle I can't see how this one will. I'll see it, of course, but I won't be excited in any way waiting. Which could be a while, despite the fact it's finally apparently out of development hell and has a release date and everything: They've been trying to do this for 7 years.

Supposedly this version is not going to be a "reboot" of the original movie. This version is supposed to be of the period of time between Murphy being shot, flatlining and being declared dead only to come back as a cyborg. The movie should be interesting and I am interested in watching it.

I'mma wait for after it escapes the big screen and see it on Netflix or something. Redbox even.

There ya go. I'll buy that rental for a dollar... and a bit more.

/They're so out of ideas that Robocop is already up for redo?!
//Total Recall I get. They messed up with the Arnold one, the new one looks way more better.
///Yeah, I totally said "way more better" and I mean it.

Man, for like half a second I read that as "Samuel L. Jackson is playing the part of Pat Sajak", I was 9 different kinds of confused.

Hollywood's never been out of more ideas now than they have in the past. Remakes have always happened. They play it safe before dedicating millions of dollars and a year or two of time into a project.

And I think this'll be awesome. It's called Robocop. If there's a super robot police officer dealing justice and on liners then I'm good.

If just for this (among so many other reasons) I'm not looking forward to the 'reboot'.

When Bruce Campell came to my city and did a Q&A session, he pointed out how Hollywood recycled stuff that was cult classic 20-30 years old with a big budget, to folks who didn't know any better... that's all I could think of from the moment this was announced... and it breaks my heart.

I make no allusions that the original Robocop was anything more than a 'B' movie. I remember seeing it in a theatre that had Disorderlies playing in the theatre one room over which had laughter so loud it drowned out parts of the movie (yes the theatre I went to sucked... I coped.) and lovingly have the Criterion version of the movie on DVD, and watch it every so often. It was a great movie for what it was, and love it to this day. I have the novel adapted from the screenplay that even included an old dog that didn't make it into the movie he bonded with as a side story...

The point is, I don't know if they can tell the 'in-jokes' they did in today's world with the 'gloss over' style of reporting, or illuminate the cut-throat culture of business society with the politically correct world we live in now. There's a lot that doesn't jive.

With some of the names on the list, There may be more than I see, with a return to the political/financial satire that led to the first Robocop movies at the front, than I see with current trends, making it worth viewing.

I guess in the end, time will tell.

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.

Hulk waited like 5 years

Robocop 3 was almost 20 years ago

Also...it couldn't be worse than one of the cartoons

Yea, sadly this is true. They would rather invest money on a known property that's recognizable and will make money (how much is always unknown) rather than investing in an unknown project.

There's nothing sad about it. A lot of unknown projects, once given the chance, completely flop, get terrible reviews, and waste everyone's time and money. Especially the studio's. For every "Iron Man" we've ever had, there have been about fifteen "Elektra"s.
