Paragon Point Cards.

You know what would get you guys a large sum of my money? Paragon Point Cards. Purchasable cards with a set number of Paragon Points loaded onto them, which can then be redeemed like a game time card currently is.

Sound familiar? It should, because literally every other microtransaction-based game does this. I know CoH has only recently gone free-to-play, but it's very difficult, no, impossible, for those of us without credit cards to buy Paragon Points. And since I'm sure I'm one of many people in this position, you've gotta realize there's probably a pretty large untapped profit to be made.

Unless, of course, they already exist. I've never seen one, and believe me I've looked.

I don't need them and it's unlikely I would buy them, but there was a time in my life where I didn't have a bank account and online transactions were a complete pain in my pancakes. Something like this is absolutely necessary to keep butts in seats playing this game.

I totally agree. I mean, i think I've seen a few places that still sell time cards for this game, but that might just be NCSoft cards. But either introducing actual point cards, or a way to use said time cards for points would be pretty awesome.

I gotta say - I have no idea why they haven't done this already, unless they're concerned about someone hacking some phony points or something.

CoH does an inadequate job of marketing the game. They don't have any shelf space in Wal-Mart, Target, and if they have anything in Best Buy(at least in my neck of the woods) the staff can't locate it. Gamestop *might* have a time card, but they're unlikely to have a copy of the game.

My city only has a population in the greater county area of half a million, so maybe that's why. Most people have never even heard of this game. So, I suspect, most people would never buy the point card, except maybe online. And, if they're going to buy it online, they'll go through CoH, I would think.

Circular logic, lol.

I still think it's a fine idea, and I wish CoH would spend some of those resources with marketing geared towards 30 to 50 year olds with surplus cash. We are the comic book generation, after all. It's not a mystery why The Avengers did so well at the box office.

I agree. I would like this option as well. When I first started playing the game right after it went f2p, I went to my local Gamestop but all they had was the VIP time cards. Don't remember if it was the 1 month and 2 month cards or just the 2 month cards only or 1 month only.

I would be perfectly happy with the ability to gift points in game via face to face or by email.

I have two VIP accounts and my daughter has an on/off premium account. I would love to be able to gift her points as needed.

I take it your daughter has her own Master Account to which you don't have access? I mention this only because I noticed I have the option to buy Paragon Points for any of the 5 CoH accounts listed on my Master Account.

I haven't tried it myself because money's too tight to experiment with.

I have used Visa Gift cards occasionally, and as a result of this casual use, I see one giant problem.

Suppose you buy a point card worth fifty dollars.

You happily punch in all the card data, then buy your 50 bucks of points.

Denied.

You try again

Denied.

The problem is, when you buy points, NcSoft charges you tax. You will need not a fifty dollar point card, but a fifty-five dollar point card..and then you will see some change trapped on the card.

How do other online games who have point cards handle tax when buying points???

Anyways, that is my thinking as to why we do not have point cards yet.

This is not entirely true. It depends on where you live. I buy paragon points through my NC Soft master account only and have never ever been charged sales tax, or tax of any kind. If you buy the point cards in a store, in most cases, you WILL pay sales tax, and I'd be fine with that.

Just an FYI: Gamestop does stock NCSoft time cards, which is the only way I'm currently able to maintain my VIP account. To put it bluntly, my credit is not exactly stellar, and I most likely will not be able to have another credit card for several years. So for me there really is no option to buy points.

To expand on this, the sales tax you pay would be at the store you purchased the card from and would have no effect on the points on the card. If you buy $50 worth of points and pay an extra $5 in tax you still have $50 on the card. Not every place has sales tax to begin with. People purchasing a card in the state of Washington, USA would pay sales tax while people doing so in the state of Oregon, USA would not.

I agree that there should be simpler ways to do this for players who don't have credit cards, but PayPal is always another option to consider since it can be linked to a bank account instead of a debit/ credit card.

Assuming that people want to give their bank information to PayPal. Call me paranoid, but I will never give my financial information to a website.

But again, I bring up the point: CoH is a microtransaction game still clinging to a subscription system. They can keep their VIP/Time Cards all they want, but if they're going to use a points-based microtransaction system then they need to offer the same amenities that other microtransaction games offer, otherwise they're just shooting themselves in the foot.

For my accounts I ran into issues with using the same Email address and Credit Card, so I use a different email and PayPal for the second account. On one occasion I was able to access my daughters account and use my PayPal to buy a VIP period for her, the second time I tried a few months later though, it was rejected by the NC Store.

Perhaps my mistake was not linking the all of the accounts to begin with, and it's too late change that now.

i would agree with point cards, it would make sense and make it easier to gift points or be able to get points if you are not the kind of person who likes online transactions

while the vip time cards can get you some pts its only 400 pts for the whole month and we get at least 4 new things per month (not all of them good or wanted by everyone, but you get the idea) the 400 pts doesnt go as far as it sounds
