Quote:Edit: (NB: Not sure if it is a case of missing or dead links - but @Daemonas's entries aren't showing any pictures in the gallery at this time.)
Hmm, that's concerning since those are mine. I wonder if it might be because I posted them using links through Picasa. I'll check what's up with that. Thanks for pointing that out GreyScribe! -
And I can totally respect that IBtT. In fact, I don't expect an idea like this to be THE fix for PVP, we all know that it has a lot of issues as it is. However, I do think it could be a small step towards fixing the PVP system.

First off, thank you to the people who interpreted OP's statement.
Second, being able to use the PVP Rep points for something is an idea I fully support. I'm not sure on what the numbers are, but I do agree that 60 Rep may be a bit low on this. If we're talking 60 Rep earned from 60 legitimate PVP kills (taking into consideration the fact that Rep decreases over time), then I can see this as a decent argument.
That being said, there are other, faster ways of earning Rep (such as someone with 20 Rep more than you permitting you to kill them, allowing you to get bonus Rep per kill). In the past, an SG-mate and I have easily taken characters up from 0 Rep to the capped 400 Rep in a day trying to get PVPIO's.
I think for an idea like this to work, not only would the Rep quantity have to be higher, but there would also have to be a time limit put in place for how frequently you can convert Rep to an IO. Of course, if you keep it low, there is a chance that this can be used as a method to breathe some life into PVP (should the Devs care to do so). -
Per level of effort, the Purp route would be more profitable, but has a higher start up cost (if you go for flipping). In contrast, AE farms take some work, but tickets can provide a fairly solid revenue stream, although not likely one as large as purps.
However, if you're taking the farming route, AE ticket farms are a virtually guaranteed source of income while Purp recipe farms are dependent on the RNG, which can be a harsh mistress. -
Unfortunately though The_Static_Man, Blasters aren't exactly designed to be pure ranged characters, as you recognize. They can be successfully played as melee range characters. Skilled behavior can include standing in the middle of a mob and firing off attacks. Certainly, players ought to realize that they won't ever be able to take the damage that a tank/ brute can, but that doesn't mean that they should be substantially less durable.
As someone who started with a blaster and still plays blasters, I would love to see some improvements to blasters and would support what ClawsandEffect is proposing. I don't like that ClawsandEffect is limiting it so that there isn't stacked Mez Resistance, but it ultimately makes sense to me since the Blaster is supposed to continuously deal damage, which would mean that it's also continuously defeating enemies and thereby reducing/ preventing the stacking of Mezzes. (Although the first two chosen attacks may not be that good at killing enemies, but that's a tangent of this discussion.)

I agree that there should be simpler ways to do this for players who don't have credit cards, but PayPal is always another option to consider since it can be linked to a bank account instead of a debit/ credit card.

I mean, getting a statue of yourself is really for your own personal self-aggrandizement. Does it really need to be in public? I could see this as maybe something for an SG base, but not anywhere outdoors.

I wasn't clear when I said we have "padding" options and I kind of used it very loosely. If you look at the armored pants, they're essentially a different pant option (I don't remember quite which) with an extra layer of "padding" on top of them.
-
I may be wrong on this, but it seems to me as if it would be possible to have pads, pouches, etc. Under armored pants, we do get "padding" options. Since these seem to exist already, I'm curious if they could be separated from where they're currently listed and made into a separate option as tails were from belts a while back.

So I have recently been on an alt-creating spree and found myself thinking, we need thigh accessories! Maybe a holster or a simple pouch? Any thoughts on this?

I think it would be great if we could make donations to charities in game. The place where many seem to argue that the original suggestion falls though is that you get something in return for donating.
In response, plenty of charities provide trinkets as a part of fundraisers. I recently received a lapel pin for donating three dollars to a charity. Did I buy it? It's a debatable subject. Regardless, if the game provides any such "trinkets" in return for a donation, I think it would have to be cosmetic at most, such as a title or a pet which provides no bonuses.
As to how the game could implement a donation system, if you stand in front of City Hall in Atlas Park long enough now, you'll see NPC's asking for donations for those displaced by the destruction of Galaxy City. I think the developers could change the statements to reflect the missions and goals of real world charities and ask for a donation. -
On the topic of cape changes, I don't know if this would actually be simple or not, but it would be great if we were able to have capes wrap around the body more so that they cover the shoulders and part of the upper arm rather than simply hanging down from the back. I know we already have the over shoulder mantle option, but it doesn't quite get it right in my opinion.

Quote:Again, your willingness to pick and choose is amusing. Let's first look at what Nethergoat said.Unless the devs publicly post a list of the names that the script freed up, or some indicator that identifies a name as being one that was made available by the purge, we all qualify as nobody under the conditions Goat specified.
However outside those specific conditions, "nobody" doesn't apply.
Quote:You know who'll be all giddy that they got one of those freed up names?
NOBODY, because they'll never know it belonged to an old account.
Let's be real, people can be giddy about receiving a freed name regardless of whether or not they know it belonged to an old account. If I got a name I wanted, I'd be happy. The jump in logic from the argument [If you don't know if a name belongs to an old account,] to the conclusion [then you can't be giddy about receiving a freed name.] leaves the conclusion to fall on its face.
Furthermore, we are quite capable of watching names. Look at Snow Globe, BrandX, myself and yourself. Snow Globe was able to get the name Strobe. Because of this thread, you have checked names you've wanted and gotten some of them.
If I knew that a name freeing occurred and had been watching that name for a long time before the name freeing (during which it was reserved) and after the name freeing (after which it was no longer reserved), there would be good reason to believe that the name was freed by the change. Would I know for sure why the name was freed? Not necessarily, but that doesn't make it impossible.
Additionally, when I responded, I didn't agree to the poorly set confines, which I consequently expanded: "So the people who have watched and claimed the names they've wanted be freed either by player choice or by developer choice qualify as 'NOBODY'?"
Nethergoat's argument fails in itself. "NOBODY" can't apply under the previously set conditions. -
So the people who have watched and claimed the names they've wanted be freed either by player choice or by developer choice (represented in this thread currently by BrandX, Forbin_Project, and Snow Globe) qualify as "NOBODY"? Intriguing ...

I'm not sure a simple costume color palette change should be it. I feel like they should have different costumes, but the ones they have now could stand an update.

I'm not sure a lance would be suitable for single handed combat. I mean, it was pretty much designed for mounted/ single thrust based combat and then discarded for melee. I'm seeing this as being much more similar to Titan Weapons mechanics-wise as well.
That being said, our lance armed heroes could be assumed to have some form of super strength in order to wield a lance single handed.
For the Impaler attack animation, it would be awesome if you could lift up your enemy with the tip of the lance, toss them up, and then catch them on the lance tip. -
It's a randomized system. Sorry for your poor luck

Yeah, when I started this thread I was hoping for at least something resembling a civil conversation, it has sadly quickly devolved to the point I don't think we can put it back on track ...

Quote:If that is the case where multiple people on a single server share a character name, I would be able to get behind that. However, I haven't heard anything about such plans so that's the narrow angle from which I'm seeing this issue. That's one way to look at it, or you could hope that the reason they said that is because they are trying to develop something that make freeing names up unnecessary.
In response to Hyperstrike and Nethergoat, it isn't for lack of creativity that I haven't gotten the name that I've wanted (although admittedly the one name I've desired since joining isn't entirely original). In five years of playing, that's the only name that I haven't been able to get that I've wanted. Unlike IBtT though, I would still like that name if it ever became available for use again.
Furthermore, no one has explicitly argued that "all the good names are taken" in this thread nor do I think anyone has actually implied that either. While my motivation for starting this thread was because a name that I want which is locked, the issue is whether or not we should change the reservation system so that we unlock more names. The foundation you imply of "all the good names are taken" was never presented. -
If you can get reward merits from super packs as a Free or Premium player, I would argue that it provides all the more reason to not move reward merits to a lower tier.
-
Like I said, an extensive pattern of copying trademarked materials should be more severely punished. If it includes a pattern of circumvention (as named by Forbin_Project) I agree that banning is appropriate. I just don't think two or three instances are sufficient to demonstrate that pattern.
-
I guess I never got to the point of whether or not I think it should be done.
Should we lower the tier at which people get to earn reward merits? I would argue no in this case, at least not to the point you're arguing for. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's already plenty of content Free players can try in order to determine whether or not they want to spend money on the game and draw them further in. I would argue that it's their own fault for chain-running DFB and later DIB. By chain running those trials and not seeking out regular contacts (which I believe they have access to), they are limiting the reward pools they're diving into. Simply leveling up is arguably an award on its own, which is probably part of why chain-runs are so appealing. By extension, getting more powerful in game is an award on its own. If players wanted to do that, they can use in game currency to buy TO's, DO's, SO's, and if they subscribed, IO's. Is there a need to give non-subscribing players an alternative means of getting what they want? I don't think so.
The devs have spent a large amount of effort building up the world of CoX, they're offering much of that experience for free. However, they can't offer all of it for free.
If you want to access an alternative method to reaching your goals (in this case Reward Merits), I believe they are able to get it for a one time fee of fifteen dollars already (and thereby being a VIP for a month), which I think is what Texas Justice was referring to earlier. If they like having the reward merits and spending them, they can continue subscribing until they reach that reward tier (15 months, or a one time purchase of a hundred dollars).
I think the mission then is accomplished if the ultimate goal is to get them to subscribe monthly. If the goal is to get the most money as fast as possible, I would argue that there are plenty of things that Free players can buy first that would be more enticing than the reward merits (AT's first, then power sets, and reward merits are further down the line). -
Yeah, I've heard of someone replacing the blue light tube with something else, but I don't know how they did it or remember what they claim to have done it with. Having a vehicle that sits in your base which flies you in and out would be pretty awesome in contrast to the tube...
Regarding already in game vehicles, I think it's quite feasible, we already have the Longbow Chaser and Arachnos Flyer for people with Tier 5 rewards, other vehicles could be one of things they rotate for Tier 9.
