Mysterious server maintenance

I logged on this morning and get the message that the servers will go down in 5 minutes for maintenance, "Please see forums for more information." Well I've checked all over the forums and there is absolutly no information regarding this. Why have the message if you guys don't post anything about it?

Just FYI, this section is for players answering questions for others players so you're not likely to get an official response to your question.

Best guess is that they are fixing some of the issues from I23 while the US is in bed.

Sadly that's the default message whenever the game goes down. Whether its an emergency or not.

It would be really nice if they announced ahead of time when they were patching. At one stage, they were quite good about this, often having known down times up to a day ahead. But it seems to slip off the importance list rather quickly. Now I just expect to happen and be happy if it's not (Tuesday is often patch day). Cynics are always happy when wrong

My guess is fixing the LFG problem, in which case we will see patch notes after it's done, or the adjustment of hybrid farmability in which case we may or may not see patch notes.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Well, you know, posting a note on the forums requires trekking five miles through the Malaria Jungle, climbing hand over hand one thousand feet up the Cliffs of Scratchy Fiberglass Insulation, and then sacrificing your kitten to the Gods Of Forum Software.

Its not like it just takes a few mouse clicks and a few minutes typing to post a forum note. You have to recognize the sacrifice involved. You have to realize they issued a patch last Thursday. Just expect maintenance every morning for the next two weeks.

Save the kittens!

You missed a "/" before your latter "quote".

The login server is back and some of the servers are changing from "down" to "unknown" so it looks like things are coming back.

There's a 6Mb download.

Not sure where you are seeing any whining being made after the OP's post. I see some explanations and also some light hearted sarcasm by people that enjoy these threads as much as I do, but no whining.

I think you are projecting your own feelings into what you are reading.

Actually, it's highly likely that the people able to post the ADMIN messages in the game don't have posting privileges on the forums, at least not on an official account or one that would show up in the Dev Digest or Community Digest.

I'm pretty sure Zwontyoucomehomebillbailey, Freitag and Hit Streak aren't getting up that early just to post a notice.

I think the part about checking the forums is part of a macro they've had for several years and haven't bothered to change.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Officially yes, but them coming down on Tuesdays is not uncommon at all given that's when new stuff is released on the market. Add on top of that, we just had a new issue go live last Thursday.

Yep, they don't seem to change any message unless they absolutely have to.

An example of this is the "standard downtime listing" which says Thursady even though the standard downtime day has been Tuesday for at least a year, especially since Freedom launched and updates the market and WST every Tuesday.
Thursdays are now relegated to "if it needs it" downtime, such as for patches.

Believe me, I am usually up at that time in the morning. I rarely ever worry about downtime on Thursday, but Tuesday is almost guaranteed to have downtime at 6am CT.
Just ask anybody who is usually on at that time of day.

Or, wait until this Thursday and then next week on Tuesday and watch what happens the week after that as well. I bet Tuesday is their main downtime day now, just like I have known for a long long time.

Well, if you ask me, I'll say the opposite. Its my prime time for playing, so I really tend to notice. (8:30 pm = after dinner and kidspawn are in bed)
Thursday is the regular maint time. It's standard. The exceptions are really rare - though it seldon last the whole two hours.

Tuesdays are often but not always hit.

Edit: The market listing and WST don't need servers to go down. The market used to get updated before the irregular tuesday downtime.

You have this completely about face, the regular maintenance is done on Thursdays and we have had downtime nearly every Thursday since the maintenance went to one day a week several years ago.

Edit:

Also, it's been almost 24 hours and still no patch notes?

All I know is I see a downtime on Tuesday, the same day as when the Weekly Strike Target is switched and the market sales and other data is updated/switched, a LOT more often than any Thursday downtime.

Take that at face value, but I think it will be proven correct tomorrow and in the coming weeks(since one day is not proof or yesterday would have been).

Hmm, I wonder if the patch and addition dates on the wiki for new content can be plugged into some system online to tell us what day of the week they were?
That would tell us which day is usually patch day, probably.
