This probably has more to do with getting the most bang for their promotional budget, which is where the real cost of big-budget movies is. Battleship might have earned poorly in the box office so far, but it's the huge marketing campaign and its huge price tag that's making the studio take a bath. There was (and is) going to be a huge marketing push for the new Joe movie, so getting it to a less-crowded spot on the calendar, while also making it as good as it can be in the editing room, is a smart move that doesn't have much to do with how good or bad this movie is.

Personally, I think this movie will suffer from having come second. If it were the original Joe movie, we'd all be much more enthused about it. It can be a good movie and still not perform because of it's weaker sister movie.

This is a movie I was planning to watch this summer, and moving it hasn't changed my mind about it. In fact, that's a good thing for my wallet. One less movie to have to come up with the bucks for in a short amount of time.
I don't think the movie itself will suck, it is just that it will suck compared to the Avengers and not pull in the money that they are hoping it will pull in, which in turn will hurt merchandising sales, etc. etc.

Had Battleship been delayed it may have done a bit better but then again......

There's no such thing as "doing it right".
I agree that pulling GI Joe out of the line of fire and pushing it back to a time where it'll have a better chance to make more money was a smart move on their part. But it's sad they had to come up with a "face-saving" excuse like they wanted to work on a 3D version. We all know the "real reason" they are doing this.

For what it's worth 3D is not going to save this movie regardless - even if it's done "right" whatever that means. Even if I do bother to see this one (which was always going to be questionable to begin with because I thought the first one was mostly forgettable) I won't be seeing the 3D version anyway. In a way I'm simply sorry Bruce Willis got involved in this particular mess.

This. Battleship was relatively more successful in Europe, where it was released before Avengers.

I really should do something about this signature.

I'd rate the first movie about as memorable as

I'd just be happy if they pulled the trailers/ads off youtube.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I highly recommend being inebriated when watching it. I saw it when I was a kid and even thought it was dumb then.

Not a problem!

Though I question your parents' lax attitude regarding underage drinking

I read somewhere that some scenes were going to be reshot as well....hmmm....well they have 8 months to really screw around with this movie and shine it up as best they can....

Alas, I lacked that comforting numbness.

But why, Megaforce is perfect as it is!

It's the "Plan 9 from Outer Space" that inspired GI Joe.

Don't lie...you're Adam Warren, aren't you?

I just got Empowered Volume 7 and there's a reference to this movie in it. I've never heard of MegaForce before you posted it and now there's two.

3D movies give me migraines. Movies that have had the effect added after filming (as opposed to being part of the initial filming process) give me two migraines... at the same time. If that's the only way it's released, I won't bother seeing it, no matter when they release it. As for why they are "actually" making such a decision, it's more likely to be because some Hollywood suit said "Derp!" during a meeting.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
