Stargate SG-1 Sounds

So I am sitting here watching Stargate SG-1 (OLD SCHOOL FTW!). Now I am a CoH addict and sometimes I think I hear sounds from in the game in the real world... BUT.... I definitely hear a VERY distinctive sound that is used in game....in a specific episode.

In Season 3 Episode 1 "Into the Fire (Part 2)" they are in a lab and this sound keeps repeating... that sounds exactly like something in game .... the launching of the Oro Portal... the beep beep beep beep at the beginning of the power.. I mean IDENTICAL.

If you have Netflix... check it out and tell me if I am crazy LOL!

Anyone noticed any other in game sounds like this in movies, tv shows, etc?

I wanna say like 30-40 mins into the episode when Carter is rescuing O'Neill out of the cryogenic chamber... lol.

Well old school in that it is no longer running new episodes on tv I actually just discovered Stargate the series and am loving it... it is actually taking time away from my COH... eek.

Stargate Universe? I liked it too.

There are now rumors of the franchise continuing through other mediums, but they haven't been specific.

It won't be the same though...

They killed Stargate Universe just as it was finding it's Story.

SciFi- I mean SyFy- likely simply couldn't afford it. It had to cost a fortune to make in comparison to... well... all their other shows.

Shame the MMO went bust even before release, something like that would have lots of potential (plus, it's not a fantasy universe pretending to be a scifi universe like some other MMO... nor was it the luxury yacht club future universe).

You know...

I recently watched the series "Jericho" for the first time. All throughout the series, whenever something ominous was about to begin, they would use the the Kheldian form-transform sound effect.

It's funny because I mainly play a Warshade and watched the series while playing CoH. So everytime I'd be running around, while the show was on, I'd stop in my tracks and rotate the camera view to see what Kheldians were in my area transforming. I didn't realize it till about 2 episodes later that it was actually the show.

Maybe I should replace the game's pulse laser rifle sounds with the ones for the zat gun and staff weapon.

I've been watching every episode of Stargate SG-1 on Netflix. So far I'm up to the middle of season 6.

I've also been watching Law & Order, now that half of it is also on Netflix! Curiously, I also hear some ambient sounds from CoH that are also in this show. In particular, the "door opening" sound. This is the new sound that replaced the one CoH used to have, I should point out. Because L&O used this same sound effect in 1997.

EDIT: Maybe I should replace the game's sound effects for the Judgement powers with L&O's "clang" sound effect.

Indeed. Stargate Universe had great potential, but SyFylis is the new Fox: cancelling shows before their time. Just look at their track record so far: Farscape, Caprica, SGA, and as we're discussing, SGU. Hell, Blood & Chrome was gonna be promoted to a "real show" but that plan was also axed.

You mean all the wrestling and cooking shows and Megashark?

I have to say, I didn't expect a concept based on "Lost in Space" to succeed. But they went beyond that, and made too many of the characters unlikable and unsympathetic.

Most of them were whiny brats, backstabbers or control freaks; with only a couple of "team-oriented" characters. The audience that watched the first two series liked the close-knit friend/family vibe, and didn't cotton to the reality-show quality of SGU. By repelling the core audience, the show didn't have a chance.

While there always needs to be a healthy dose of conflict in a show, that internecine strife should have ended after 5-6 episodes. That much conflict would have left the entire crew at each others' throats and dead by the end of the first season. Halfway through the first season they should have begun the storyline that they just started touching upon at the end.

Indeed I loved SG-1 and SGA but couldn't stand SGU and dumped it after 4 or 5 episodes. I HATED the infighting, and the plot of most episodes was the characters fighting over the obstacle of the week only for the ship to fix it on it's own.

I understand it may have improved substantially later on, but by that point I had already given up on it and just didn't care. I think a lot of SG1 fans were the same.

This, entirely. I tried to give SGU a chance, but it just totally grated on me. That was a show that was trying too hard to be like LOST or BSG, when the Stargate franchise already had its own MO pretty well set and, to my knowledge, no one was complaining about. They tried to be the "Un-Stargate" and it just fell flat. When I learned that it was being cancelled after only two seasons I was like, "finally!"

So my choices are either boring or stupid?

I'll have the chicken, then!

Actually, I'll take Eureka (for the time it has left) Warehouse 13, and Alphas, all good shows in their own right.

I'd love to see them take another stab at Stargate though.

I agree with several of you.

One night, several years ago, I left late night Comedy Central on while I was playing CoH. Suddenly, a commercial for a ridiculous Girls Gone Wild ripoff DVD started playing, using the Blyde Square neighborhood music from Steel Canyon.

After a good laugh about it, I PMed one of the community members (I think probably Avatea) and included a link to the site, which happened to also have the commercial streaming on their front page.

I don't necessarily know that any legal action came of it, but I do know that the site has been gone for a while.

So this all started because of Stargate Atlantis - I caught an episode on tv and was like WOW.. I like this..so I went to the Mart of the Wal and bought all 5 seasons...it was a SGA marathon. So then I discovered SGU...and was so disappointed they cancelled that

Now I am on Season 3 of SG1... Maybe I should slow down and they will bring out another SG series before I finish all 10 seasons LOL!

I also have to remember to watch the 2 movies of SG1 after I finish season 10..

Actually I would have found a third series of the Magnificent Superteam formula to be boring. Star Trek alone proved that if that formula is overextended, mediocrity takes over (see Voyager and Enterprise for case in point). I found SGU's chafing, unsure of itself team dynamics to be highly refreshing. It kept it from being a total retread of Atlantis (crew goes through Stargate, arrives in an ancient ship, far far away).
