Detoggling travel power + too expensive = nosale.

That's just me tho- I'm sure there are others that will snatch this up.

Of course there are some animal based heroes in comics but it seems to me that a lot of the recent market content of this sort would be better suited for a Fantasy (cough -there I said it) type game rather than a superhero game.

Hopefully it's a lack of development time rather than a lack of imagination.
I wish something really innovative would posses them. I'd love to see a gestalt feature for bots masterminds. The mechanics for it are already in game.

I don't think that would translate too well with the beast mastery rigs... I can see it working well with merging demons but with all the cats about?

Maybe not...

Bots Definitely.

Given the amount of points one must spend on a "vanity" travel power for 650 points whereas a Powerset is 800 points--the overall cost comparison is still justifiable?

Realistically, there's a huge discrepancy in what you are paying for and what you are getting. This was my point.

Was never an issue of current versus future "abilities".
Well, this is highly subjective, of course.
Unusually for it's MMORPG generation, individual character aesthetics are very important to CoH development. Judging by the responses in this thread, there are more than a few people happily willing to pay the price for this ability, even given that it is primarily aesthetic in nature.

Speaking for myself, I'm not interested in the power and won't be buying it. My spouse, on the other hand, has a South-American Jaguar-Goddess character, so it's a mortal lock for her.

If you're saying the abilitiy isn't worth it for you, that's fine - personally, I agree.
However, you appear to be saying that it's not worth it for other people and that's apparently just not true.

Respectfully, you missed the entire point of my posts. They have nothing to do with your last sentence. My posts have been very clear. In fact, 2nd post has summarized my position.

Please don't overreach in analysis, just follow what I stated. Here is your snip of what I said:

People buy $5 condiments all the time, dude. You go to the store, buy a giant bottle of ketchup, and put it in your fridge to use however and whenever you want. You can even use it with the $10 steak that the store also sells if that's how you roll.

Your analogy doesn't work, because there ARE people willing to pay nearly the cost of a meal (or even over it) for some fancy condiments that they really like. You're not one of those people. And to be honest, I'm not either. But you're arguing against other peoples' tastes and how they want to spend their money, and neither of those arguments are going to end with you looking like the hero.

I would totally pay 650 Paragon Points to see you walk into a grocery store and argue that they shouldn't be charging for condiments, though.

You don't see why someone would want to spend their money on this. Fair point, but people do want to spend their money on the Panther power and don't feel they're being ripped off. Don't buy it if it's not worth it to you, end of story.

Or is this whole thing you complaining because you really really REALLY want the Panther power for yourself but can't justify spending a little over $8 on it?

Do you think the fluff is too expensive?
Then don't buy it.

I picked up Beast Run and it's super fun.
Is it "overpriced" because I already have Ninja Run and I'm basically paying for a new animation?
Nope!

It's a new technology that they've wanted in the game for years but only finally got working recently (October 2011 was the first live use of the four legged rig, used on stationary wolves in the Halloween event). They are doing a bit of making up for lost time, but a Beast set for Masterminds has been one of the most requested power sets from the community ever since Masterminds were a thing.

But you can breathe a sigh of relief; it does seem like they're slowing down a bit with the four legged stuff. The only thing using it in Issue 23 that I know of is a new boss in the Magisterium trial and potentially the Night Ward content. Beyond that, I know of exactly one other use of the four legged rig for players on the way, but that was wrongfully leaked and therefore shan't be discussed until an official announcement is made. (And there's probably some lions in the Time Gladiator summer blockbuster event.)

I do know for a fact that there are no other four legged pets or transformations being currently tested on beta, so it'll be months before another one comes along.

If someone wants it, then they'll pay anything to get it. It's all a point of view depending on the customer.

Now for me... 650 points for another animal transformation power is a little much, but if it fits a toon's style of play and RP then it's worth looking into.

But it's not worth getting if it doesn't fit a character concept.

Do you really need to be so pretentious? Well by your insinuations, it seems so because you must resort to personal attacks. You assume:

1. "...You don't see why someone would want to spend their money..." This is your overreaching judgement. My posts have no such inference. This was never implied nor stated in anything I wrote. Stay with facts...

2. Your second point: "...Or is this whole thing you complaining because your really, really REALLY want the power..."

Instead of staying with factual details of what I wrote, you now diverge to this? Seriously, show me where I said any of what you are insinuating?
Furthermore, you and I do not know each other or each others personal status, so to clear up any misconceptions you have, probably like you, I am VIP. However, the only thing I REALLY don't do is spend much of my accumulating points because I have no desire for what is normally offered. If others want it, the more, the merry.

Again, I never said people shouldn't buy Panther travel. Also your comment of:

"...Don't buy it if it's not worth it to you, end of story." Aren't you basically saying: "...if you don't like my opinion then don't say anything...?"
Like you, I used this Forum to voice (similarities end here) what I disliked about the Panther power. And, again, I never said for anyone to NOT buy it. I was stating my opinion of the price discrepancy of 650 points versus 800 points. A huge difference of what you are paying for versus what you are getting.

I have been arguing that the price is too much for its relative value. What's wrong with getting Panther travel for a lower price? Would you really argue against this?

That's all. Have a good day.

it'd be awesome if everything in the world was free!

I wouldn't argue against it, certainly.

How about you go make that happen, then get back to me.

In the meantime, I'll keep making my purchasing decisions based on sticker prices and I urge you to do the same.

Nethergoat...your mocking, sarcasm fails at what you are attempting to do. Based on your two posts, you'll probably come back with more, but it's okay..."...I love you, man...".

Seriously, this is starting to get petty. The joys of Forums. Sincerely, have a good day and see you in the game, possibly.

Too much time has been wasted on arguing stupid crap in this Forum. You and I have better things to do in our lives.

-Peace

I almost feel like this is the true point to this arguement too. I made a similar arguement regarding short green guy, throwing around 10% extra inf, and guess what? I still don't have the little guy, simply because he was really not worth his price. However, I did pick up the panther power as I have three or four toons I could use the power for, so I got it.

Exactly. And I cringe every time I see one of those damn leprechauns in the game. I really, really, really hate them because they have no business running all over the place in a game that's supposed to recreate a superhero comic book universe. Sadly, others disagree with me, but that's the way it goes. I wouldn't buy one (actually, I seriously wouldn't take one for free) and I'm sorry anyone did, but, when they appear, I simply roll my eyes and get on with it.

I'm sure others feel the same way about the panther power. So it's their turn to roll their eyes. I would point out, though, that at least shapeshifters, unlike leprechauns, are a staple of superhero comics. But if you think it's too expensive, just don't buy it. The end.

And I'm arguing that it's not. Your analogy started out flawed and continues to be flawed, and you keep shouting the same things over and over. Nobody has made any personal attacks against you, least of all me. Though you did call me pretentious, so I could say that you're the one resorting to personal attacks.

You want to stay with the restaurant analogy, fine. Here's how it works:

Quote:
You and your friends (all your existing characters) are sitting at a table at a buffet restaurant. For $10, any new friends you make can come in and eat a steak (use a new power set), but none of your existing friends are allowed to have any at all. For $8.13, all of your existing friends AND any new friends you make can have unlimited soda (Panther travel power), no matter what their meal is.

If you have a lot of friends that would like to drink soda or a couple friends who really really like soda, then the $8 is worth it. If you don't have a lot of chairs left at your table (empty character slots), then it might even be MORE worth it to buy unlimited soda for everybody than to buy steak for more friends... unless you also want to pay for more chairs at the table, anyway.
Look, you can take this as a personal attack or whatever, but you are underestimating the value of a power that any character on your account can use at any time. There is a pricing discrepancy on single/limited character use items and account-wide items because they're either limited or account-wide. Unless you're going to delete every character you've ever made and remake them all using one premium power set, then a premium travel power that can be used on any character, new or existing, has more utility to your account. That's not to say it'll be more enjoyable to any individual player, just that it's more useful to the account as a whole.

I highlighted the phrase where your argument fails.
Your definition of "relative value" is going to be unique to you because, well, it's -relative- to you.
Just because you don't like its price point doesn't mean that's going to stop -anyone- else from buying it.

For what's it worth I wouldn't "argue" with a lower price for this power, but that's not the reality we're faced with.

Those are leprechauns? I don't think we know the same folklore. Or watch the same grade z horror films. Or see the same advertisements every St. Patrick's Day.

The superhero genre can accommodate anything and everything (even though I can't think of a single leprechaun hero or villain, either) but there's no such thing as a comic book universe where all the heroes have access to and any utilize a companion leprechaun.

And -- seriously -- if they sold an extra-dimensional imp pet, I'd be all over that, because, as you've proven, that is genre-appropriate.

Technically not the Silver Age (and technically not a leprechaun) but there WAS that annoying "Elf with a Gun" storyline in the "Defenders" waaaay back in the 70's.
