Sweet! I enjoy some small server fun!

I'll third Pinn being awesome. Triumph was my first server and will always be "home", even though the people there can be kind of crazy / cliquish / drama queens sometimes. Pinn is my next biggest and definitely my favorite. Everyone is so easygoing it's just a pleasure whenever I team there.

As others have said. "YeahNO!"

If the server you're on isn't "busy" enough to suit your tastes, move to another server.

If/when they ever decide to do this, they will probably make a new server and moves to there (with or without SG) will be first come first serve.

It would be a very unpopular move if they go this route and surely negative unwanted publicity. I'll leave this to the bean counters if it happens.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

They won't need to merge the servers. A while back I took part in an open beta where they tested cross-server teaming and it seemed to work, if the populations drop too much and there is a lot of free bandwidth it shouldn't be a problem to implement it.

The main thing is. They've already spoken up about this. The "servers" are running in a virtualized manner now. So it doesn't really cost them any extra to have 20 servers than it does to have 10 servers.
And, as hardware capability increases, this is just going to get easier and cheaper for them.

Triumph has been my mainstay for over 6 years as well.

For one that doesn't get around to all the tid bits of info, this is definitely a good thing to hear about. This has likely led to more stable server performance.

Surprised the copypasta took that long to show up.

There's one thing not mentioned in there. The Op mentioned... well, a bunch of buzzwords. The only time combining servers has any "benefit" that I've seen tends to be in PVP-centric games (which COH definitely is not.) There's another NCSoft game with a bunch of people with wings trying to kill each other like this. They've combined servers a few times, since there are goals your character pretty much MUST meet to advance, get decent gear, etc. that require PVP - so they require a PVP population.

Even then, I wouldn't call it "successful." And I can't help but wonder if it's part of the reason they've had *mutliple* merges. (They're down to three servers, so there's been at LEAST two merges.)

The only single shard game I have played is the wonderfully ruthless space game set 25 thousand years into the future. I cannot see that game working any other way and it is FANTASTIC.

I don't see that concept working for this game. I am on Freedom and when there are a lot of people logged in the server starts to cry a bit. I don't think the resources they have in place are attuned to handling much more load than they already get.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

We have sober people on our server? Where?! Kill the beasts! <burp!>

.... glad i wandered out of the Pinn server a while ago now, don't need more things trying to kill me.

On a serious note Pinn was a nice server. Had a blast getting two of my MMs to 50 there. Hmm... maybe I should dust them off and start working on the incarnate stuff for them..... I don't care for drinking but where did I hide the vodka again??

Also hell no for merging servers.

Were you here when Freedom was crashing due to overpopulation during 2xp weekends, and some nutter was arguing that the way to solve Freedoms crashing due to overpopulation was to merge servers into Freedom so there would be even more people trying to log onto Freedom at the same time?

This is the most important reason of all!

I don't need any of my names getting ruined because of servers combining. It's bad enough there's names taken by accounts not being played anymore. What if an unplanyed account gets my name?

Also, if the server is to small for you, switch to a higher population server. Either through character xfer, or making a new character.

ROFLMAO!!! Freedom gets pretty laggy during those high volume times for sure. 6 Atlas' can have a negative effect on enjoyment due to lag. Say no to server merger.

It always irks me a little when people consider "high server load" to be a good thing. Those dots on the side indicate server performance, people. You don't want them to be red because then the server starts lagging and dropping people off and you start waiting in queue.

That said, I've always preferred the concept of one global server for all players to share like what Champions Online uses, not because of population issues, but because I'm sick and tired of the character I want to play not being on the same server as that my friends are playing on right now. I actually have a Free Account friend right now that I would gladly pay for. We made his one character on Victory because that's my "main" server, and now he refuses to play the game because I'm currently playing in Pinnacle.

6? Heh, I remember seeing Atlas/RWZ 10...12...etc before on Pinn. I forget what was going on (likely 2xp), but it's been a while.

I do like having the separate servers because it opens up more naming options for players, and I don't like what some games do and display a ridiculous name like (Character @ Global).

That said, I would really like to see cross-server teaming at some point in the future. Since most missions are instanced, I think it should be possible, once some tech hurdles are cleared. I could see it working where you send an invite to a global name, and while you are unable to go to the same open zone as them, you could enter a mission and end up in the same one. There are some questions of course, like how to deal with two teammates with the same name. However the game already has plenty of NPCs that share names so it might not be too big of an issue.
