Well played [adult swim], well played indeed...

Tonight saw the return of Tom-bot from the old Toonami block. Complete with Steven Blum voicing new lines, as well as an episode of Dragonball Z and (so it says) an episode of Gundam Wing.

Simultaneously hitting that nostalgia button while letting us know that it's nothing more than a joke.

Well played, [as]. Well played indeed...

I know it's an April Fool's joke, but I ain't mad. All the fond memories that I had watching shows with friends, talking about 'em, rock on Tom, rock on. See ya next time Space Cowboy.

They even did the game review. Surprise surprise, but it was for Mass Effect 3. They really did go all out on it this year. It made me realize how much I miss that old block.

Caught some Outlaw Star.

Awesome.

I miss Toonami. I saw their review of Morrowind almost enough times to memorize it.

So it looks like an episode from every show that ran on Toonami is being aired, or least as much as they can any way.

Yu Yu Hakusho comes after Big O (which came after Outlaw Star).

They showed.

Bleach - Episode 247

DBZ - Episode 191
Gundam Wing - Episode 10
Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki - Episode 19 (OVA 3)
Outlaw Star (still phony painted on sports bra and shorts on Melfina) - Episode 25
Big O - Episode 1
YuYu Hakusho - Episode 110
Blue Submarine #6 - Episode 1
Trigun - Episode 23
Astro Boy - Episode 1
Gigantor - Episode 1

Boy did this really choke me up, like finding an old movie of your friends from high school who aren't around anymore.

During each was a commercial for the DVD box set. We also had some classic Toonami bumps as well as a game review for Mass Effect 3. And this was the hardcore robot Tom 3.0, not Tom 4.0 with the face from the very end of Toonami. They also included a sneak peak of next weeks Bleach. Note they only ran 10 episodes in the 5 1/2 hour block but it didn't seem like they added more commercials.

Edit: Now with the complete schedule and episode number.

Blue Submarine No. 6 is coming up. Wonder if they plan to end this with Cowboy Bebop.

Same here, sometimes the nostalgia can be awesome and I think this is one of those times. Best April Fool's joke ever.

You know what would make it even better as a "joke"?

If next Saturday rolls around and they've still got Tom showing up.

Cool, thanks. Feel asleep during Blue Submarine No. 6 so didn't get to see the whole thing.

You didn't miss anything. That show sucked. Just another hamfisted "Humans are evil, nature is wonderful" philosophy drive with a panicky uninspiring "hero".

I stayed up to see what they would do for the final Tom section. It was fairly anticlimactic with "Later" up on the screen. It did give me hope, but then, it's [as] so not THAT much hope.

There's a chance they can bring it back, the ratings were high because of the nostalgia factor. The only real problem is they don't have the license for some of those shows anymore.

I enjoyed this nostalgia as well. Now here's a question for us all:

If you suddenly got rich (lottery, lawsuit win, inheritance, found gold or oil, whatever) and you decided to sink some of the money into salvaging a network that really needs to return to its lost glory, which of the two would you choose:

1. Cartoon Network
2. Sci-Fi Channel

Yes I spell it Sci-Fi because that is how it SHOULD be. SyFy indeed.....bah! A network run by people that don't like sci-fi....ugh....

Have to wonder about that. They were able to secure a license for at least one episode and they were advertising the dvds. Bandai is pretty much done with for anime at this point, what with only licensing series out anymore. You'd think they'd look for any chance to get some income coming in from previously released series that might not be picked up by any other publisher.

Probably made a deal. Air episodes for one night in exchange for promoting dvds.

But if given a actual chance...you can leave feedback on their site, there is a Toonami topic.

I'm guessing that was how it was arranged as well. More like hoping to flush out stock since few brick and mortar stores are left selling anime dvds and if they are their selection has been reduced by a lot over the last couple of years.

No matter, I buy all my stuff from Right Stuf anyways.
