This is going to be odd.

So, wandering through DA with my Emp/Psi, doing the arcs, one or two things come up.

First, the minor, general case. The arcs are written assuming - dialog wise - you've got some incarnate powers already going. So having someone "step back and assess your power" when you've got nothing slotted and only Alpha unlocked... who ever thought a mostly-SO'd emp/psi defender could be that scary?

The other one that's going to be odd for me to go through? One of my characters, currently at 40, who's been around a while. (I can say that a lot, can't I.) Knew about the "Mot" link in DA for years, part of why the name is what it is - but she's going to have something to say (and a good reason to beat down people) in a few points. Which character?

This one:

... Keres Mot.

There are times I *really* wish we could fit our own dialog in (ok, we can, sort of) - because having someone else called "the" Keres would *really, really* tick her off.

I think the devs will forgive you for choosing that name, but next time try not to screw up the game.

This is what you get for ripping-off the Devs before they copy -your- ideas first.

For what it's worth I've had a character in this game for almost 8 years now whose background and general appearance is "fairly" similar to Desdemona's. But in the spirit of keeping everything good-natured I haven't bothered annoy the Devs with knowledge of that little accidental coincidence.

... That's one of those "timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly" things, isn't it?

Mender Silos warned you about this when you met him in 1944

Mot was also a Goa'uld underlord who served the System Lord Ba'al, until he was killed by SG-1.

So... yeah!

Well, is your avatar a Bad Wolf?

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Oh wow, you're even worse off than I am in the regard of wishing you could write your own dialogue... and I play a Midnighter who's old enough to have met the Dream Doctor before he disappeared. Wow. Dat name.

Heh. I did some digging with that.. yes, it was before First Ward, as well. So there wasn't even a "keres" mob in game. (6/2007.)

*shrug* Wonder how many comments I'll get...

Interesting tidbits on the Wikipedia entry for Keres.

Quote:

It is possible that a connection exists between Keres and the Valkyries of Norse myth. Both deities are war spirits that fly over battlefields during conflicts and choose those to be slain. The difference is that Valkyries are benevolent deities in contrast to the malevolence of the Keres, perhaps due to the different outlook of the two cultures towards war. Also, the Greek word "keres" (choice) and the Old Norse word "kyrja" (to choose) from "valkyrja" seem to have a common root.
I wonder if Red Valkyrja has seen your post yet? Or if she will see it?

Yeah, she'll see it. I'll be sending her a PM with a link.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Reminds me of the Desdemona thing myself.

There was a Broker in Cap Au Diable by the name of Desdemona the Glint before there was a Desdemona the Redeemed Demon-Summoner

Also, there have been a few times when I've wanted to write in my own dialogue. Such as any time someone tried to coerce my SS/DA Brute by magical or psychic means. Dude is an arcane construct built to emulate a human body with superhuman strength and speed, and the ability to bind the souls of the dead into a barrier of shadows that protects him from harm (From a meta standpoint, he also has 90% Psychic resistance). He's a walking fortress, what makes you think he's going to go along with you (Hardcase) for any reason other than because it amuses him at this juncture?

And, for reasons that were entirely his own, he absolutely despised Malaise. Given the option, he totally would've slugged the colorful bugger at the end of WWD4, but for the purposes of the game's story, I can accept that this isn't really an option

Also, he's kinda hardwired to take orders from those of Mu descent, but he can overcome that when he feels that their agenda might run counter to his own. Of course, as a villain they generally don't run counter to his own agenda, because their plans tend to involve him punching dudes, and he's okay with that. It's kinda his thing

I was going to write pretty much the same thing.

Gorilla Girl hit 50 right before the issue launched, so I decided to only run her through DA missions -- no street-sweeping, nothing -- until she'd played them through once. I sent her to Ouroboros to unlock her Alpha, and she got her parting gift of a shard. Shards must be pretty damned scary, given the reactions of NPCs.

"I am the Sentinel of Mot! Prepare to be devoured!!!"

"Step off, Jack. I've got an Incarnate Shard and I'm not afraid to use it."

"..."

(Of course, she's also going to graduate from DA far closer to slotting Judgement and Interface than Alpha, but that's another matter entirely.)

Funny you should mention that. Something I like in one of the new redside arcs is that when you initially talk to the contact, he mentions that he's giving you an anti-mind control device to keep you from being brainwashed. You have the option of saying "Nah man, it's cool, I've got a special brain that can't be mind controlled." His response is to roll his eyes at you, point out that it's your funeral and tell you not to take chances and hang onto the device as some extra insurance.

Thought that was a nice touch.

But I throw in my own dialogue and stuff sometimes. This ranges from just rewording responses into my characters' own style of speech (even if it's just adding the cheesy Hollywood German accent), or responding in their own way to stuff within the parameters of the story.

Then again, I sometimes go beyond that. In my head, the fights with Ravagers, Keres, and other big monsters totally look like something out of God of War on my dual blades/willpower scrapper. And I'd be absurdly happy if we ever gained the power to suplex our enemies.

Fun facts:

Stephen Furst, who played Vir Cotto in Babylon 5, also played Kent "Flounder" Dorfman in Animal House. Bruce McGill also starred in that movie, playing Daniel Simpson "D-Day" Day. He was also on Babylon 5, as Major Ed Ryan.

Bruce Boxleitner was in the movie Tron. Peter Jurasik was also in that movie, in a small role. Of course as you know, both had major roles in Babylon 5.
