But on-topic: Yes, detail2 is the _wrong_ place for those masks, detail2 is for lower jaw and neck covering items and there is no reason for those masks to be kept out of the hats category.
IMHO I'd prefer: Masks in detail1 and the current carnie detail1 items moved to ears (Along with other detail1 ear covers, like the winter earmuffs) I admit that my suggestion isn't ideal but I believe its much better than the current arrangement.
What I'd like to know is why do half helmets get an extra item slot? "Helmet Detail 1" replaces "Ears" but where did the slot for "Helmet detail 2" come from? and why can't we re-use this slot in the other head types? If we could reuse this slot we could have a dedicated "Detail 3" that covers the forehead and thereabouts details (like the carnie asymmetric-spike-thing).
That said, if I had my way I'd have all the face details in all of the categories, that is (IMHO) a much better plan, clipping be damned

Um, I'm using the sash with the pleated miniskirt, looks nice. Though I'd prefer the drape to be a little further out to accommodate the Valkyrie/Roman skirts.

I think what was meant is you can't wear a mask and hat at the same time.
Probably due to ugly clipping issues.
Really though... I'm actually pleased as all get out to have the masks and sash, though I do sincerely wish they would be ported to males. I like the placement. I feared the masks would be placed under the facemask detail. While it could go there quite well it would take away from using some of the maps there, so no glowing Organic Armor eyes underneath.
And putting the Detail 1 pieces under ears would force my non-humans to lose their ears? No thank you.
I'm happy to get them where before we couldn't even use them. Now, about those new Banished Pantheon skirts...

Honestly the masks should be available in both Detail 1 and Detail 2 categories.
That would allow players to chose if they wanted to use the masks with the upper head details -horns, headspikes, the carnie crown-ish details- or with lower head details -Jester ruffle, umm... the lace collar from the steampunk pack? (Not too familiar with detail 2 for women since I very rarely play them)- and open up a lot more customization options.
(Edit: Likewise I think all of the "Horn" details should be added to the Ears category (for everyone). Some of the ear details already connect in similar manners to the horns, and having the horns duplicated in a second category would allow people to pair eye details like Sunglasses with them.

Being unable to wear the new Pocket D shiny dress under a trenchcoat or magic bolero has been a real limit to me, as far as the usefulness of that costume set. I really wish some of the limitations on which things can be used in which categories weren't so..arbitrary sometimes.

Actually, looking carefully at the sash there on Sunstorm and the Khelds... that's not the same sash as in the Carnie pack. Very, very similar... except, y'know, crappier. They're going to have to build a new one for the players.
