I've been hating on Robotic's Pulse Rifle options ever since they started adding weapon customization to the costume creator. They've never had decent choices there and I'd be very surprised if they ever added any. Porting over the options they have for Beam Rifle would be a good start, but I'm not holding my breath. I gave up on this a long, long time ago.

I have two stupid questions.
1. Are you sure the Beam Rifle and Pulse Rifle are held by the characters in the same way and won't cause clipping with simple ports?
2. Why are you people using Pulse Rifle attacks as a mastermind?

As an aside: Sometimes I fell bad for the Crey Scientist who came to work Monday morning and went to the break room to get his coffee and chat up the cute secretary, then make his way back to his lab station only to turn the corner and have SRMs blow him away.

More serious response: Please read what I typed the first time. Patron/Epic powers were the afterthought, not the main portion of the statement. You did a wonderful job of refuting a tenth of my argument, and for that I applaud you.

Because not everyone likes Tankerminding? I don't have provoke on Alpha. In fact, I would consider that a waste of damage and slotting. I slammed more recharge set bonuses in his attacks, and settle for toe-bombing mobs into dust. Works just fine for me.

As a serious reply, I cannot count the number of times I've dropped a low health runner while my bots were otherwise occupied. I honestly cannot imagine playing Wrecking Gear without being able to shoot stuff. I think I actually have most of her attacks, too. I have a great deal of fun using my wide area web from the Mace Patron Pool (or whatever the hell it's called) and then hitting the whole group with a Photon Grenade while my bots unleash their lazery, flamey, missiley fury upon their immobilized butts. Not to mention the number of times it has saved me when my bots got bugged and stood there doing nothing while I got pounded on. I practically soloed all the last part of WWD 4 without my bots because they were bugged. I wouldn't have been able to do it with just my Nemesis Staff.

And no, I do not find Provoke and Trip Mine to be mutually exclusive.

Soul Mastery is another good pick, as you will get two AoE attacks that do more damage than Photon Grenade. Both are cones, so you have to intelligently line them up, but again, one is an immobilize.

To the OP, as per the Ustream yesterday, I think there was some mention about this. So assuming my memory isn't that hazy.. hooray!

As for Nemesis and Blackwand, they aren't always available (iTrials).

You know, sometimes it just feels better to get a mob's attention by blasting them all with a photon grenade than merely shouting at them.
That's why I got both the pulse rifle attacks and provoke. I'll admit that in the middle of a fight, I'm too busy laying down caltrops and poison gas traps and whatever while also provoking the enemies to keep the aggro on me, but the allure of "pew pew lazers!" was just too seductive to not get those powers as well, lol.
Also, I outfitted Pulse Rifle Blast, Pulse Rifle Burst, and Photon Grenade with the Gladiator's Javelin, Apocalypse, and Ragnarok sets respectively. All at +5. And for no reason other than I wanted to. So there.
EDIT: On the other hand, my new robots/force field MM is not taking the pulse rifle attacks. This is purely for thematic reasons, just as it was for my robots/traps MM.
I know it was pointed out, at several points when Beam Rifle first came out in i21, that there were several weapon options for Beam Rifle that would work just as well for Robotics's Pulse Rifle, and that Beam Rifle could use the Rikti Blaster and Crey Weapons. A whole issue has gone by, without anybody fixing this, and that miffs me. Would somebody please address and remedy this before another issue goes by?
