Oh, hell. Been off the forums for a couple weeks and just now saw this.

I'm not sure I could say I knew DC *well*, but I played with him on Isos, VoT, and a couple other weekly groups off and on for a few years, and joined him on heal farms back in the day...and teased him all the time about his grumpy-old-man-ness. He was one of the Victory mainstays, somebody you just get so used to seeing around and figure they always will be. And I'm sure he would have, if he could. It's just a little hard to believe his name won't be lighting up on my global anymore.

He will be missed, and my thoughts are with his family and friends. I'll be raising a glass for you, DC.

"We live to dance another day, it's just now we have to dance for one more of us." (Lyrics may not fit exactly, but the sentiment does, I think.)

Where is the horse gone? where the rider?
Where the giver of treasure?
Where are the seats at the feast?
Where are the revels in the hall?
Alas for the bright cup!
Alas for the mailed warrior!
Alas for the splendour of the prince!
How that time has passed away, dark under the cover of night,
as if it had never been.

--The Wanderer

Tolkien adapted those lines into The Lord of the Rings, and they are more than appropriate here. Farewell, DC. We'll miss you.

I'm going to miss Jake ...
I loved playing with him and he made me a much better player - He's the one that got Lanna Su to 50 amidst months of heal farms and chatting night after night. He was a good mentor in game and a great friend in real life.
He got me into Dr. Who and Babylon 5. When I swore I was content with how season 4 ended and had no intention of watching season 5, he got it for me for my birthday. I guess I'm going to have to watch it now.

Even when I stopped playing we would text back and forth and he kept me up to date with his progress in life and with cancer.

Last November I ran my first half marathon fundraising for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in his honor. Jake thought I was insane ... he told me he didn't want to be responsible for anyone running any kind of distance. He also told me he was proud and appreciative of it so I went ahead with it.
I'm now training to run the Boston Marathon, fundraising for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It's the only thing I can think to do - the only way I can feel less helpless in this ordeal.

MP - thank you so much for being there with him.

I don't know if this is inappropriate - I wasn't going to add this but a friend told me that sometimes people are looking for something to do in the face of cancer and this might be a way to help: If anyone wants to donate to Dana Farber, my fundraising site is www.rundfmc.org/2012/kitn
Dana Farber gives 100% directly to the researchers - none goes to administrative costs or overhead.

Bless you DC. I miss you. I'm glad there's no more pain.

Every new fact I learn about him makes me wish I'd known him better. And I think this is an entirely appropriate place to post links to charitable organizations that are working to prevent this sort of tragedy.

PS For those who itemize their tax deductions, charitable contributions made before the end of the year (which is practically here) can count as a deduction on your 2011 return.

PPS The above PS applies only to US taxpayers. I have no idea what other countries' tax rules are.

Edit: Because I forgot what year it was.

First, I'd like to echo the sentiments of those who have already posted. There really isn't a whole lot more to say than has already been said. DC was one of those guys you were happy to see on your friends list. You knew if he was on, then he'd be more than willing to help anybody with just about anything - that's something I really respected about him. I, for one, will never remove him from my global friends list. For sure, I feel like there will be a void in the Victory community. I wish to give my condolences to his family and close friends for their loss.

Sorry, i just saw this thread, i wish i could have seen it earlier.

I never played on Victory, Guardian only, but this is not about servers, this is about OUR community.

Looking at all the posts, DC sounds like one hell of a great guy, too bad i never had the pleasure to meet him.

To his family and friends, his loved ones.. Please stay strong in these hard times. Remember his bright days, see the smile, hear his voice and feel his touch. Let the good memories be how you remember him.

"I will surly miss you all, about that i can not lie, but as long as you remember me, i will never really die"

Mhn.

Death is just the beginning, he's free from this world's problems.

In the words of my old friend, '' It's not the dying part that gets to me, it's the time it takes. I can't wait to see what the other side has to offer. ''

Hope his path is what he wished for.

I'm not the kind to wish for resting in peace, nah, better yet, DC, live it up on the other side. When I get there maybe he'll be a guide or have some useful advice on what to avoid.

Love,
Jen.
