Summer Event discussion

So, there's really no in game event over the Summer. We've got the Winter Event opening soon, the Halloween event for Fall and the Spring Fling/Valentine's Event.

Positron I think said he's been kicking around an idea or two. I thought we could take another run at generating some ideas and interest.

One thing I read recently at Paragon Wiki got me thinking.

Apparently in addition to the Winter Lord, there's an opposing figure mentioned called the Summer Lord.

In WW2 they both took human avatars in the form of Captain Volcano and the Lord of Frosts.
The Lord of Frosts killed Volcano at some point near the end or after the war, and was recalled to Winter Lord's realm.

Now, aside from having the Lord or Frosts show up in future Winter Event content, I think for a Summer event they could finally bring the Summer Lord and his conflict with the Winter Lord into the game.

Maybe they decide it's time to chose new avatars (our heroes and villains) to strike at each other. And since Summer Lord lost their last direct clash, he's on the defensive and it's his time of the year under attack.

Just an idea. I like to poke at forgotten corners of the lore and pull at the threads that they never ran with.

4th of July Alien invasion? It's a movie tradition, apparently, so it could be an event tradition.

COH Beach Party!

Sun. Surf. Sand. Random Nemesis mole machines coming up through the ground.

New emote - Volleyball spike shot (imagine a variant of Total Focus/Air Superiority)
New emote - Lie flat on stomach on beach towel
New emote - Build sandcastle
New emote - slow-mo jog with surfboard (or Rocketboard) under your arm

New currency - Sand Dollars! (or Clams!)
Used to buy Sunblock (prevents damage during zone event, described below), Portable Cooler (increases the # of inspirations you can carry), Summon Lifeguard (think a variant of Backup Radio or Amy), etc.

New beach event - Bodysurfing

New zone event - HEAT WAVE! Lord and Lady Summer are setting Paragon and the Rogue Isles on fire! Heroes and villains with cold powers (to offset the heat) and electrical powers (to get the AC working again) are desperately needed! Bonus prestige if you use the Extinguishers from the burning buildings in Steel Canyon to take them down!

New zone event - FIREWORKS! The various villain groups are partying it up, but no one's told them that you don't exactly fire off a box of Roman Candles INSIDE a building! Think a variant of the Burning Building event where the players must re-acquire the boxes of fireworks that were to be used by the city - if the players fail, a random necessary building gets taken out of commission for 15 minutes... if they succeed, players get a neat fireworks display that acts as a morale buff for all open zone events for 15 minutes.

From another thread from a while ago...

How about a soapbox derby? Crafted out of clockwork gears (wheels), hydraulic pistons (axles), ceramic armor plates (better than a cardboard box for safety)... we can even go for Soapbox Death Race 2000! Or recreate the Fast and the Furious by having teams of really hot /kins in bikinis speedboosting the derby cars as they go by...

Being able to actually SAIL out on the water! We've got all those speedboats... set up a buoy circuit and let us race! "Hundreds gathered today by the docks of Talos Island to witness the beginning of the first Paragon Cup, as crews race the circuit across Paragon Bay..."

Praetoria can get in on the event with a crew team... make going for the River badges much more entertaining...

Clambakes on the beach (the normal kind, not the type you have in an enclosed car)... Kheldians may wish to remain in human form.

New travel power: Sack Hopping

New tailor look: Sunburn

I do like the idea of incorporating that old piece of the lore into a summer event. A few suggestions of my own include-

Temp powers:
Water gun
Water Balloon

Zone additions:
Pocket D Beach/indoor water park area!

Freedom Phalanx vs. Arachnos...
In a game over Volleyball.

Record scratch, full stop, double take. What?

Is this another one of those things like that article regarding the other avatars of Rulaaru, that somehow appeared on ParagonWiki one day, but was never seen anywhere before somehow?

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

Why did the thread title immediately inspire a Phineas and Ferb sequence in my head?

I vote for a platypus pet the despawns at random!

It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.

That is exactly what caused me to remember the Summer Lord and look him up again.

Seconded, but only if he completes one of your missions when he returns.

Could be.

Captain Volcano and Lord of Frosts have been part of the in-game timeline for a while as I can best recall. Just footnotes in the history of WW2. They're here:
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/game_i..._continued.php

Beyond that? Why would anyone implicitly trust an open wiki?

Doesn't really matter who came up with the idea. In fact, Positron said that most of the lore on some things is just one or two sentences one person jotted down and forgot about. So they're not slaves to it. They've even changed some of the lore in game a couple of times to suit popular opinion.

Shark attack!

Seriously, roll some underwater critters going to war with we, the drylanders. It's time we had a reason to fight in the water.

The devs said they have a few ideas for a summer event, but they're not sure if they'll have the chance to do any of them this year.

Agreed! It would make a nice homage to the ultimate summer show.

Going on this theme, we could have a massive Coralax invasion, with an appearance from the [insert random body part] of the Leviathan! Imagine how the kids would clamor to hear the story of how you took down the Spleen of the Leviathan!

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

Yes! "Beach party" was my first thought. Those are some great ideas. My enemy idea was sea monsters.

Yeah, I'll sign on for the beach party and sunbur aura.

Also need flipflops a a show option.

Further, if they're going to have dozensof heroes running around without shoes, they can finally fix bare feet so that they look like feet and not boots.
