I don't have any particular reason to have started watching the show other than 'why the hell do grown men like it?'. But I agree that most times I looked for images to post I found some creepy ones and thought 'what the hell is wrong with those people?' - but most of them are not perverted, I gues that as with any popular show you'll get weirdness. Even the spiderman memes have some real nasty stuff, I'm scared of what my kid (I hope I have one... or three) will be able to find in the net in the future even unintentionally.

Heh, it is a good show, isn't it? I'm not sure why I started watching it either. I think it's the dissonance between "My Little Pony" and "but it's actually good!" that got me. Then Fluttershy happened... Mortals are not equipped to handle that kind of adorableness. Then she told off a dragon and snapped a bear's neck. (Not in the same episode, mind you.)
A big part of why I keep watching, though, is all the mad fan-stuff the show spawns. And I'm referring to the clean stuff here. Not the... other stuff.
But it's always fun to see someone who's just started to watch and like the show. They usually do go a bit overboard in sharing ponies everywhere. But it's all in good fun.

The other characters are interesting too (my fav is Pinkie Pie because she kinda breaks the fourth wall), it even reminds me of Friends which I think was so successful because it managed to make everyone have the same importance and be equally likeable, in other shows that tried to mimick Friends, there was always some characters that stood out and others you didn't care much.
And it's funny that guys like it so much, guess we're not used to actually find cutesy shows good, because from what I've seen in an article, the largest audience in YouTube episodes are:
1) male 25-34
2) female 13-17
3) male 18-24
I showed it to a female friend (we're both over 25) and while she recognized it's a very well made show, she didn't find anything different or special.
Due to the unexpected audience they even added stuff for adults later like some internet references and in one episode where they put ponies who are a homage to The Big Lebowski movie.
I do hope they don't go overboard in the adult and internet references. Sure, a Benny Hill chase is always fun, and yeah, having the man playing Q do the voice for Discord was amazing, but honestly, I still kind of want it to be the six little ponies (and Spike) doing their little pony things. The character episodes really are when the show shines. Especially for Rarity. Why is she so awesome these last few episodes?
I do like the Derpy Hooves cameos. Looks like there's one in each episode this season. I think that is their small wink to the internet community. "Where's Derpy?" She's also in the new opening, check the back of the train.
I think my favorite is Twilight Sparkle, although Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are close.

I didn't care much for Twilight in the beginning but I started to like her for the same reason I didn't before: the rationality, skepticism, worrying too much about not so important things and being mocked by the others like 'Why u so serious?', i think she kinda represents our 'grown up stress'.
Rarity had a lot of rejection for being the closest to a stereotype, I think that's why they made the episodes where she shows her good side (the sister one was great like the last one).
Ok... I think I'll get a PM from a mod to stop talking about ponies... But this thread is a test right?

Funny you mention Discord, I had a pic saved to use (the caption is because in the episode he turns Ponyville into a chaotic mess)
Well, Discord is basically Q. Even got the same actor to do the voice for him. Expert trickster, chaos incarnate. Almost took over all of Equestria, if he hadn't been out-tricked by Princess Celestia sending some letters back. Then took weaponized friendship to the face.
Discord was a fun villain. I wonder if we've seen the last of him? We did, finally, get another Nightmare Moon episode this season. Or rather, a Luna episode. Kind of fun to see what the effects of having been sealed on the moon for a millennium does to a pony.

The show does have some fairly serious scenes, though. More than you'd expect it to get away with for a kids' show. Every single one of the ponies has had at least one mental breakdown, ranging from funny to heartbreaking, and while the villain Discord in the season 2 opener is funny, he's also really, really cruel. He actually managed to get Fluttershy angry. Sure, she's had her... issues... before, but she's usually not angry at anyone. It's why it's funny to show when she is.

I enjoy cartoons as much as the next kid, but Archer, American Dad and The Venture Brothers are more my thing.

I only watch animated movies like Toy Story and Pixar stuff when all my friends insist, or when I have a gf and she wants to see, I don't even like those, I like drama, comedy and things women hate like... Expendables and... The Hostel! Last cartoon I liked was the Simpsons, and Family Guy for a bit (but those are not kid shows).
Then I saw the two first episodes of My Little Pony and found it entertaining... And then I watched the 13th episode because I was told the show gets better after half the first season... Next thing I know, I watched all 36 episodes in 1 week and I'm 4 episodes of Dexter behind, the only series I watch the day it comes up (or used to lol).
