Immortals?

Saw it, liked it. Definitely better than the new Clash of the Titans (can't comment on the old version as I've never seen it). The fight between Theseus and Hyperion was great. Really enjoyed the visceral 300-style fights.

Would certainly watch a sequel/follow-up to it.

7.5/10

To be fair, watching a rock do nothing against a featureless plain for 90 minutes would be better that the new Clash of the Titans. That said, having just walked in the door from a late showing of the film myself, I rather agree with your thoughts.

Also while the fights involving the gods later on were kind of absurd, it was generally a really entertaining absurd.

I think the director took a page from the big book of anime.

Rule #623 Human bodies have at least 8 litres of blood in them, that will gush when cut.

Aside from the over abundance of gore (which I was informed after that it was the director's style), it was pretty good. Served as a good example for my RPG group to show them what Exalted Solar fighting would look like.

Heh, went with some of my sunday gaming group, we did exalted one campaign ago and depending on whether or not I get a job in Japan, we're about to do Scion

our comment was:

either mortal hero meets a solar exalted

or

the most epic visitation of all time

Well, it's the same director as The Cell, but I don't know that I'd exactly say an overabundance of gore his 'style'. He also directed The Fall, which was bloody fantastic and had a decided lack of gore. And his next movie is Mirror, Mirror which looks like ... a family fairy-tale comedy so ... yea.

Saw it today, and whilst yet again it has only a passing resemblance to the actual mythology (I though there'd be some great tension if they actually showed who the Titans were instead of some crazy warrior gods...if they were that easy to kill, then why didn't they do that? But no, showing Cronus and his relationship to Zeus wouldnt've been a good counterpoint story to Theseus and Zeus at all....) it was far and away better than the craptacular Clash of the Titans remake.

Yes, the 300 influences are still there (apparently to be a badass you have to wear some style of Spartan/Gladiator helmet) but Mickey Rourke just out-acted anyone on screen, yet Henry Caville is going to be a great Superman, he has the 'humble hero' thing down pat. And his fighting is just amazing to watch, the way he was throwing his whole body into the fight scenes. I hope he's allowed to do this some in Superman.

Loved the gore, at least that is greek mythology. Plus, seeing gods fight reminds me how well superhero fights can be done.

Gets a solid 7 out of 10 for me.

A love letter to the beauty of the male body as only another man can ever truly know it?

Is it sad that that's the only knowledge I have of R. Kelly?

Anyone else see any scenes that seemed awfully familiar?

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

Both fired their arrows individually and somehow managed to magically hit all 4 targets simultaneously...

Still... I'd say Immortals did it better.... considering the position of the arrows shown in the air seemed more accurate. He fired them much faster. lol.

Solar vs. Terrestrial archery charms.

(And yeah... Exalted style over-the-top fight scenes is what I'm really going to see Immortals for, so as long as it gives me that I'll be content.)

Its a decent flick. I felt the story was solid, if a little rushed in places, the action scenes were over the top but fun and entertaining. I will say I think the dialog was prety bad in a lot of places, but what ever.

Not the best movie in the world, certainly reminiscent of 300 in some places but over all a decent movie. Sometimes watching the fight scenes I felt like they did their anatomy research playing Mortal Kombat, but it was fun to watch.

Well, considering the guy in Immortals didn't have to actually draw arrows from a quiver, that's not surprising.

I agree it was good for an evening out with friends....probably won't end up buying it, but that's fine....

I am amused at the way a lot of fiction is presenting the Greek Gods as benevolent entities recently...always seems to me that the Greeks are the worst pantheon you could live under....the Norse and even the Asian pantheons seem more respectful of humanity
