Whats next? Is this the big "OH JUST WAIT IT'LL BE GREAT YOU DOM LOVERS!!!"? Or is there something else in store? Im a little "meh" about this. I was still really holding out hople for several new dom sets to round things out. Illusion/Dark was really sounding good in my head but what do you guys think?

Think Dark is gonna be just another port? Or being tied to the new and improved Dark Astoria, do you think it will somehow be tied to the power used by the pantheon??

I cant wait to actually see the footage of the summit so I can get a bigger picture.

A breakdown of the Darkness Control set has already been posted (Minus the tier9 power which hasn't been announced)

It's not a port, the only power in the set that already exists in the game is Fearsome Stare. Everything else is new.

Doms will also get Dark Assault to go with it (and Controllers will get Dark Affinity, a variation of Dark Miasma).

There's also no mention at all of it being tied to Dark Astoria 2.0 in any way.

At the powers panel, we didn't reveal the Tier 9 power. That will be revealed at a later date, so stay tuned. One thing to note, as Tunnel Rat mentioned, the tentacles have been replaced with more of an inky shadowy feel. Some bits of info we gave out:

Possess: This power darkens the target and gives them spooky glowing eyes and makes them confused.
Haunt: This power effectively places a taunt aura on your target and spawns two Shades. These dark entities alternate between a punch attack and a terrorize attack. The Shades will continue to beat on their target until either they are killed or their target is defeated. Once their target is defeated, they will move about attacking other targets at random. Their damage is pretty decent, and this power offers a fair amount of control. They are uncontrollable like all other Controller/Dominator pets.

I think that's about it for Darkness Control.

We also announced to proliferated sets. What would Darkness Control be without Dark Miasma for Controllers (called Darkness Affinity) and Dark Assault for Dominators.

Darkness Affinity
This power is a proliferated version of Dark Miasma for Controllers. You're likely thinking "why the name change?" Well, we pulled out Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze because: a) Fearsome Stare really belongs in Darkness Control and b) Petrifying Gaze is pretty redundant when paired with Darkness Control as its effectively a copy of Dark Grasp, but without the damage. I felt this necessitated a name change.

In their places we added Fade and Soul Absorption:

Fade is a short duration, long recharge, high defense boost to your entire team. It's intended to prevent team mates from being defeated when they're low on health. This will hopefully give you enough time to fire off a Twilight Grasp to heal them. Internally, I've heard it compared to "a weaker Moment of Glory for your team". I think that's fairly accurate.

Soul Absorption is a handy power that grants nearby team mates regeneration and recovery for each nearby defeated foe. This can spell a massive boost to regeneration and recovery with enough valid targets. Think Stygian Circle for your whole team, but instead of +hp/+end you get +regen/+recovery.

Dark Assault
This power is a mix of Dark Melee and Dark Blast. You've got a fun mix of powers in there. I think Dominators will enjoy the set. It offers a nice mix of damage, control and survivability. It also features a new power called Gather Shadows. This is effectively a combo of Build Up and Power Boost. You lose your +to hit and have reduced effectiveness of the +damage and +effects, but you get both. It's a trade-off to be sure. I look forward to player feedback on this.

As always everything mentioned above is subject to change in beta. I'll be having my eyes glued to the forums when this hits the training room. For those of you who made it to the Pummit, it was great to mingle with you all.

I was hoping for some Warshade power-clones. Unchain Essence would be awesome in a Dominator secondary.

As far as I've heard it refers to nothing but the new set.

Dark Control is pretty much an entirely brand new set with almost no ports. Doms are also getting Dark Assault. Not much heard about it yet except that its self-buff power is kind of like Power Build Up.

Until we hear otherwise, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that Dark Assault will be a combination of Dark Blast and Dark Melee. I doubt there will be very many new powers in that set. I just hope it gets either Siphon Life or Life Drain so /Dark Doms can have a self heal the way that /Dark Blasters do.

I already have my name reserved for a Dark/Kinetic controller - Night Moves.

The flash of magical combat between the Banished Pantheon Shaman and the Tsoo Sorcerer lights the fog shrouded dark. The power of Mot summoned to battle the oriental Dragon.

Out of the gloom the two are locked in a final mortal combat, one neither can survive and as the elements howled and the lightning danced across the sky. In the quiet haunted streets one ghost is caught, shackled by the wild magic and the life force is ripped from the mages into the spirit caught and held by the explosion.

Silence again as the storms cease and the stench of dark magic fades. In the streets filled with the echo of the dead, the Night Moves.

The new set sounds nice, but if they are going to expend the resources for new animations I'd have preferred something new conceptually and not another rehash of an element/power source already extensively fleshed out.

imo it really doesn't matter if it's in the game already. DOM's don't have it. so it's new to dom's. also you have to consider what's already in the game when making a new set. this like IO's, game mechanics like secondary effects and so on. seeing that dark is in the game already, i can see why it was a safe choice (and highly requested).

i'm just glad they gave us (dominators) something different within the class, and didn't pull a axe/mace on us.

Dom's and Trollers have no Darkness themed sets. There you have the expansion conceptually.

Anything else they add is likely going to be just more refined themes on existing power sets that you can do already.

Kinetic Melee could of easy been replicated with Energy Melee.

Darkness Control will not only give Trolls/Doms a Primary for more darkity concept, but it might just be nice for them to have a Primary that offers some -ToHit.

Just going by other Assault sets, it seems likely that the tier 9 will be either a direct port of or a variation on either Midnight Grasp, Umbral Torrent, or Tenebrous Tentacles. I think everyone will be disappointed if it doesn't include either Siphon Life or Life Drain.

This is just a guess based on currently existing Assault Sets, but I'd expect Dark Assault to look something like:

Dark Blast
Shadow Punch
Gloom
Smite
Power Boost
Shadow Maul/Umbral Torrent/Tenebrous Tentacles?
Siphon Life/Life Drain
Dark Consumption
Midnight Grasp/Umbral Torrent/Tenebrous Tentacles?

Dark Consumption is already in Soul Mastery, so it won't be in Dark Assault. I think that's a pretty good outlook, though, otherwise. I'm expecting:

Dark Blast
Shadow Punch
Smite
Night Fall
Gather Shadows
Moonbeam
Life Drain/Siphon Life
Gloom
Shadow Maul

...in roughly that order.

I hope they skip moonbeam, never been a big fan of snipes. Touch of Fear would be a nice touch, making a Dark/Dark the undisputed master of ph34r!

Edit: Ooooohhh, even beter; a reworked (for all archetypes) Cloak of Fear. Such an awesome power thematically and visually, but the massive accuracy penalty and end usage are over the top. 80% accuracy and .5 end has always seemed fair to me.

Some dominator sets have a snipe, some don't. I haven't actually tallied, but I think currently slightly more do than not, so clearly in the interest of balance they should leave it out.
