Problems with the Paragon reward pets.
It wasn't in the Beta patch notes.

Did a little research. The patch notes copied to the Wiki doesn't have that section of the notes, so, it's most definite that it was added after the fact.

I find that explaination rather crap as even if it's a client side issue, that means each client should be able to choose what they want running. There's an option to hide other player's MM pet banter, etc so why not a 'hide other player's VR, non-combat pets' option?
Blame the dog.
Really.
Once the dog goes on the market I'm betting that they are expecting a lot of players to pick it up. And unlike the previous pets, the dog has a variety of animations it cycles through. They probably have a good idea how much additional overhead the dog has Vs the current crop of combat and non-combat micro pets.

When I discovered this ingame I logged a petition/support ticket as follows;
Me: Support: Well its official, the developers meant it. WHAT?!? The character I discovered it on has a design that is based around having lots of robots around him. Why take this away? And why reward players with multiple pets if they can't even use them? Some reward! I feel really ripped off. I have earnt, and paid for, these with time in the game as a loyal customer for 5 years. I want them back! |
The toggle, the animation change, not digging either of those, but losing the ability to have my vanity pet out with my wisp, kinda detracts from a couple of characters I had that took great joy in using the vanity pet.

I thought I was the only one that named and gave back story to some of my vanity/buff pets. This is a very saddening change that was added stealthily indeed. I searched all forms of patch notes posted at the time the build was implemented, i even did a ctrl+f for the word "pet" on the page and there was not a single mention of any pets. This lead me to think it was a bug, but now I see that it isn't, and it greatly saddens me. I love very much to run around with all my pets following me.
Many of my toons, as I stated, I have even given them back story, such as my fire/kin controller and elec dominator. They are sisters who love to collect toys and use their powers to animate all their toy robots (clockwork vanity and buff pets, mvas, imps).
For many of my robot toons, their mekmen and MVAS are scouting drones that transmit their info to the shield drone, which is linked to the command unit (my toon).
I urge the devs to at least separate the buff pets from the vanity pets so we can spawn the buff and 1 of the vanity pets. It would still be saddening to not be able to use all of my beloved pets, but at least we will be able to use one of the vanity pets alongside the constantly dying buff pet.
You're only feeding my point though - all of these changes, every single change they are making is to please their new freebie moneybags.

I don't think the problem is with the pets we currently have, I think the Devs are looking into the future and saving us from ourselves.
I went to Freedom this afternoon, and saw three or four dogs frisking about Atlas square.
Imagine a team of 8 in a cave mission which each of those 8 have a pet dog and three other pets out..and don't forget the Masterminds and their regular pets.
I can see lag happening, and I can see people tripping over all the pets.
500 points is a lot of points, but, if they had made a realistic looking cat, I would have handed over my 500 points kitten quick.

-k-...then, if they are concerned about "the future", yet still want to suffice their player base, then why not just keep it the way it has been for the past three years, yet cap it. I just heard about this pet issue from a few friends of mine who are hardcore RPers, and they are pretty much crushed. Why not allow for three vanity pets at a time, maximum? Also, get rid of the ridiculous toggle function. I really see no point in my Mek Man vanishing every time I get held…seriously, what's the point? I think that it would be a better way of ushering in a new flood of vanity pets without pissing off a lot of people, if they just stick to what is familiar. I mean, just because other MMOs are setup this way, doesn’t mean that CoX has to be as well. Allow for a maximum of three vanity pets, and allow the user to select which three they want to use. I don't see this as a monumental request.
Each pet out is another entity the server has to keep track of. This causes everyone in the zone lag. That is the point.

Every player across all servers at one time. Then we can talk about server resources.
