My husband's account just dropped to premium, and we're confused.

We were under the impression tokens were being awarded at the end of the billing cycle. He didn't get his last one.

We were under the impression that dropping to Premium loses you 10 character slots (basic VIP is 12 slots, Premiums get 2 free slots) in total, so if you'd bought or had vet rewards enough for, say, 36 characters on one server, you'd drop to 26. He lost 12. Why is that? Yes, he purchased GR before it became awarded per-VIP.

I have no idea why he didn't get his last reward token.

However, dropping to Premium grants you 2 character slots TOTAL across any servers. (As opposed to taking away a certain amount of character slots, you are simply granted 2.) Then, you also get to unlock any slots that you have purchased separately, or that came as part of a package (i.e Going Rogue). If your husband had not purchased any other slots, he would have FOUR slots available to him, two default slots and two more for having purchased Going Rogue.

Don't you also get to keep extra slots that were unlocked as part of Veteran Rewards?

He's a T9 vet who has all the veteran free slots that were offered, plus some bought slots. We only play on one server, so we expected him to just lose 10 of his total slots on Virtue. Instead he's lost 12 on Virtue and we can't figure out why.

To add to this, if your husband has applied any of his purchased (or bonus) slots to a sever already, then his additional global slots need to be used on that server.

In my case, I have 6 extra slots, 4 of which are applied to Freedom already, and 2 on Virtue. If I were to drop to premium, I would be able to access 8 characters, but at least 4 of those would have to be on Freedom, and at least 2 on Virtue.

As for the reward token, they are not awarded at the end of the billing cycle, but rather a more convoluted date that has to do with the amount of time the account has been playable. As mentioned in this post by Zwillinger, it is a little more difficult to pinpoint this date.

I think the 2 slots your husband is missing might be the 2 free character slots that were rewarded when I12 was released. Your husband has 36 slots unlocked as a ViP. 12 for ViP, 22 from either Vet Rewards or purchased from the store, and 2 slots that were a gift from NCsoft. I don't think the 2 I12 gift slots transfer to Premium status.

That would be pretty crappy... we were here for i12 and that was a long time ago.

My mistake, I misread your original post. That being the case, warden_de_dios's explanation sounds like the most likely. As you say, it makes no sense otherwise.

There's a formula for how many slots you get. If memory serves, it's a base of 2 slots, plus 2 for Going Rogue, then 1 additional full year of subscription (i.e. Veteran rewards), and plus any slots you bought extra under the old market. Might be a couple more in there too, since it seems like I have a total of 9 global slots and I'm just a 3-year veteran.

As for rewards, they're being rewarded at very irregular rates. Last month, where my subscription cycled on the 19th of October:

I received my Server Transfer token at the beginning of the month.
I received my Paragon Points (for the Market) a day or two before my date.
I received my Paragon Rewards almost a week after my date.

Zwill has said that they eventually will get the system working as intended, but it may take a while. You may want to send-in a petition to get your rewards (being premium, it'll be a while before they respond now), although you may get them automatically in a few days.

(slight grammar edit)

The whole system for awarding them seems to be in a complete mess. I was told by support that I would get my main account November token on the 28th, when my account renewal date is the 6th.

You can try putting a ticket in about it, but support seem to be as confused as everyone else about the whole thing. I'm a token out on my second account that dropped to Premium, too, and TBH I just can't be bothered to try to chase it up.

I actually consider the slots thing a blatant rip off. You're meant to keep what you paid for, right? Well, the original CoH came with 10 slots, so why don't you keep those 10, huh?

Then CoV came with 2, GR with another 2, that means if you bought all three of those there should be 14 slots as a basic minimum when you drop to Premium.

So basically, they lied when they said you keep what you paid for.

I went ViP for a bit and ended up with a total of 9 character slots.
I had GR (long before Freedom), bought 5 slots and am a two year vet.
Thgat should have added to 11 character slots.
I was assuming the veteran slots weren't included to Prems.
As of your post, it is now obvious to me that contrary to popular belief, Premiums do not retain the two slots from Going Rogue.

The original CoH didn't come with 10 slots. It came with 8. Then when CoV was released it unlocked 4 additional slots for a total of 12.

Depends on how you define paid for. Personally I look at slots as part of the $15 monthly fee for access. Not paying the fee? Used to be you got zero access. Now you get some.

No one lied to you, you just made some misguided assumptions based on admittedly vague information.

No, you were paying 15 bucks a month to keep those 10 slots open. Dropping to premium means you're being granted access to 2.

When the game went F2P, the NCSoft was well within its rights to set ANY conditions for free access it wished. My premium account has 8 slots and I'm darn happy about that. Saying that we paid for 8 slots when we bought CoH, is mangling the language and I'm not sure the baloney is coming from the devs' way.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
