Was that before or after the store was released? Since we did get the headstart and the store was behind the initial release of i21.
Edit: Just to add that with the sheer amount of people saying they've spent X amount on the store, i find it highly unlikely that income would be down to say last year.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
Not sure it matters, though lacking any evidence to the contrary, I'd have to assume it's total revenue. Regardless, if the worst-case is that CoH brings in $7-8 million per year, then it sounds like we're safe for some time to come. Standard business rant applies, but I can't imagine their operating expenses are much higher than about $2 million.
|
As for operating expense..yeah wish they separated those per game but probably would never know. However, if it is somewhere around $2mil, that's a very drastic decrease from $18million per year when CoH started.
Yes, revenue refers to all monetary transactions related to CoX, and since that quarter had 2 months before Freedom, that would not just include the Freedom store but the previous NCSoft store that you used to buy boosters from.

So, ok, maybe I was too hasty. Still, if all the rest of it (buying/maintaining equipment, cost of running offices, etc) costs more than another $2 million I'd be greatly surprised. So let's say $4 million in cost. That'd still give you a healthy overhead.
But like I said, standard business rant applies. Suffice to say that I don't think an MMO's operating costs 7+ years later are going to be anywhere near where they are at launch.
What's the point in posting these threads?
All they do is bring out the trolls, doomsayers, and sadomasochists who pay to play the game, yet take delight in extolling whenever possible that "ZOMG IT'S DYING I TOLD YOU SO!!!!", and armchair economists who usually don't work in the MMO industry and thus can only speculate.
Know when I care about the money CoH makes? When we get the announcement that operations will be ceasing. Everything ends, and MMOs all have an expiration date. Just play the damn game until they kick you off for the last time.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Remember, kids, if you're not interested, nobody is.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
Well, I'll be the first to admit I don't keep up on the happenings at Paragon Studios, but the last I heard their staff was in the high teens.
|
But just for clarity, when you say staff in the high teens, are you referring to just the devs? Or everyone behind the scenes including but not limited to customer support?

Yeah, costs won't be like at launch since that includes marketing costs which i think would be very low by now.

Downward trend since I13, coincidence? I think not
F2P seems to have stopped the decline. Nice one!
Well, I'll be the first to admit I don't keep up on the happenings at Paragon Studios, but the last I heard their staff was in the high teens. Even if we (generously) assume that everyone on the payroll costs $100k to employ, that's an upper bound of $2 million per year for staffing.

This only includes people at that location. The GM's work for NCSoft and are based elsewhere. The servers are located in Texas and would require people at that location also.

I like how you write obvious stuff. It helps simple people like me. It took me 45 minutes to write this post.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
There is a photo on Paragonwiki of the Paragon Studios personnel in August 2010. I count 61 people in the photo.

In was, in fact, in discussions referring to those layoffs, months later, where I heard the staff number I used earlier. Could be wrong, but I don't think I'm 200% wrong.

Er, only "massive" round of layoff that I'm aware of consisted of like 4 people.
Seriously you need to stop spreading rumors dude.
2812 millions KRW, which is something like 2.5 millions US dollar, for the months of july, august and september. It's less than a 1% increase from previous trimester (2787), but it still is the second lowest result for CoX.
The interesting fact here is that this trimester includes the first two weeks and a half of Freedom, and the new F2P/hybrid system. Of course, it's just two weeks over three months, and the next trimester will be a lot more interesting, but it's kind of a good news to see that CoX earnings are going up again, a thing that has only been seen for GR launch since... I13.
On a more global note, NCSoft sales went from 152 422 to 135 735 (10% drop) between Q2 and Q3, so CoX earnings increase, no matter how small it is, still is a good news.
Source.
PS : I'm not sure if it's the right forum to post this in, with the new rules and all, but since it's always been post here, here we go.
