What is the ambush nerd?

People are saying the ambush nerd went live with today's patch. I read the patch notes and see no mention of this.

What exactly is the ambush nerf?

I've heard of The Angry Nerd but no Ambush Nerd.

In MA the first ambush to spawn in a given mission gives full XP. The next gives only 75% normal XP. The third gives 75% of 75% (so 56.25%), the fourth 75% of THAT (so 42.2%), and so on.

It's a response to MA farm missions that make use of heavy ambushes.

Lol I was about to ask if you got autocorrected since even the new Mac OS X does that now, so not only iPads and iPhones nowadays.

The nerf was something along the lines of - 1st ambush gives you 100% xp/tickets/infl, second one gives 75%, third gives 50%.

I'm pretty sure these are the numbers, don't recall mention of fourth and beyond.

Edit: Coloumb gave a much better answer, I was wrong but my numbers are close because I memorized the simpler way

So this is one of the AE nerfs that I heard people complaining about the other day?

Was there other AE nerfs that went in today?

The AE farmers are a nervous and paranoid bunch. They tend to imagine that vicious nerfs are hiding around every corner.

I blame it on unconscious guilt.

I just heard that buffs are also stripped when zoning into AE, so you can't pop a ton of inspirations, then zone in and be ready for the first fight.

If this is true, I'd say it's a much bigger AE farm attack than the Ambush farms.

Just tested this. Picked a mission, took three different insps (red/yellow/purple.) Entered mission. All of them were gone from the buff bar.

Went out, took another purple, had the combat attributes window open. As soon as I entered the mission - gone.

To be thorough, grabbed a newspaper mission, did the same thing and the buff stayed.

BOOOOOO devs. /thumbsdown to stealth nerfs. You have just hurt people playing legitimate missions - AGAIN. If I know I've got a big fight - like, say, I've just come back from the hospital after getting stomped on - you've just removed my ability to buff up ahead of time and still have a full insp tray.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

Yup it sucks. But it was done to prevent 50s from hitting Barrier before zoning into an exemping arc, etc. Like how MM pets die when zoning/starting TF whatever, to prevent them from becoming "overpowered" .

It's a superhero game, there should be no such thing as "overpowered"

Haven't tried with incarnate powers. But it had no effect on regular buff powers, just inspirations. (Actually, the Incarnate trials bore me to the point I'm not sure I have any that have barrier/clarion/etc. to test with.)

I thought you said the buff (inspire) stayed when you tested it with a newspaper. To be fair, if it's only a AE change, then it's about as focused as it can be to not include most normal content.

Although I gotta totally agree. I'm also not in favour of undocumented changes (I'd not call this a nerf as if anything, it made things more dangerous, not less).

Ah! I see. That sorta makes sense. So you think you only lose buffs when entering a mish exempts ya?

I applaud the devs for adjusting the xp governor to a range that they feel more comfortable with seeing in their game.

I think the inf nerf, ticket nerf and stealth inspiration nerf are garbage and too broad a stroke for the stated reasons it was implemented. It hurts the non targeted users of MA but so have other overreaching changes made in the past.

I might add it changes "nothing" for a certain segment of the targeted users and that is ALWAYS the case when they do this kind of thing...

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Given it's a reduction in capability, it's a nerf.

And yeah,t he inspirations stayed when tested with a newspaper. I was saying I'm not sure if *barrier* (and the like) would stay going into AE - but hasten and other self-provided "power" buffs stayed in that case, so I don't know if barrier would be affected if popped before going into an AE mission. I'm assuming it would.

I don't see why AE farming needs to be nerfed or otherwise disincentivized. If players are having fun with it, why get in their way? They are paying to have fun with the game, and it's not interfering with anyone else's fun, right? Methinks the devs may have too much ego invested in "their" view of how the game should be played. They aren't the paying customers after all.

And for the record, I have no dog in this particular race. I don't participate in AE farms (not since learning what they are). But I do feel that in the absence of Level Pacts or some other sanctioned way to bypass the level grind for alts, farming mechanisms should be left alone or maybe even boosted rather than nerfed.

Thanks to the typo in the title, I've had this in mind:

Somehow, this doesn't surprise me. I've noticed a couple weeks back that click buffs such as Hasten and Rage disappear upon entry (or exit) from an AE mission. It is VERY obnoxious to have those disappear shortly after you refresh them before entering a mission. I guess this would be the logical progression of nerfs to hurt farmers.

I have a feeling AE is going to be largely ignored if things keep going at this rate, at some point in the future.

Hasten actually stayed with me (at least showed on the buff bar) when I went to check this.

Sorry about the barrier example, I wasn't aware the nerf was targeted to insps, I only knew about the ambush ****.

Ymean it already isn't on your server ? Since they started tearing down AE and curbing it's XP and this and that and the other thing only farmers are persistent enough to actually press on and adapt, most people who wanted to tell a story with AE that I heard of gave up on it years ago.

When they were hyping AE they were saying they were the first to allow players to create missions, I guess all that hype is what kept from them admitting it was a complete disaster and just yanking AE out altogether. It'd have at least given them time to stop staring at things like MARTy and trying to hunt out way to repeatedly nerf it if they had just hit the delete key over it back when it launched and failed, and actually focus on something that made the players happy instead of finding little tweaks to upset them every couple releases.
