Beam Rifle/?? Opinions on best synergy?

I am currently playing a beam/pain corr, mostly because I wanted to have an "oh Crap" option when low on health. I have put very little into pain. So far I am loving the beam rifle, but I feel there must be something much better I could pair it with.

My playstyle is doing fair/good damage and supporting my team, I almost always take leadership pool powers. Its been a long time since I played CoH and I am very out of the loop on all they great new power sets, so any info at all would be a great help. ALSO I never much cared for corruptors, but apparently my tastes have changed in my years away.

Thanks in advance!

How about beam/storm?

My reasoning is that beam is quite clicky; it requires a lot of attention to constantly fire to spread disintigration. Storm isnt too clicky to be effective. Just skirt the outside of spawns with hurricane and open with freezing rain (and tornado and lightning storm if up). That way you minimize redraw and can focus on beam attacks. It also works to keep enemies away from melee which synergizes with beam rifles ranged tendency given its cone.

Of course, if you want even more focus on beam attacks and again want to minimize redraw, can't go wrong with beam/sonic or /cold or /thermal to a lesser extent (more clicky).

I have never tried storm, I think when the servers are back up I will make a beam/storm and give it a go.

Thanks for the advice!

i have a rad/beam defender that works really well. you dont redraw to throw down the toggle debuffs. you only redraw to heal (which you dont need to do that much of with debuffs properly placed) and to do lingering radiation, which is really only needed on an AV, assuming you dont have time people with you.

so that leaves you free to blast away as things choke on your clouds of radioactive goodness. also the -resist and -defense make your damage quite nice, and then the -def and -res of your beam cones stack on top of this. all in all, if i spent a goodly chunk of money on my build (i need to get 2 lotg and some recovery procs, choking cloud is expensive to run), i can get +145% damage out of it as a defender. I imagine corrupter would see much more pleasant numbers.

here is my build, but i warn you its more for defendering, light on personal defense and missing a single target attack. i group alot, and spend time throwing down debuffs and then attacking with the debuff beam attacks.

I have a Beam/Dark that is a lot of fun

For the space marine type thing a Beam/Kin would be fun as well...............hmmm may have to make one tonight.

Its hard to beat Beam/Traps if you want a "Space Marine" or Predator type of theme. I'd suggest skipping Triage Beacon in favor of the Medicine pool, however.

If you can deal with the redraw, Beam/Trick Arrow might be doable. There are some really nice debuffs to layer with beam, and every attack in beam can ignite oil slick, including disintegration spread.

It also fits a high tech weapon master or predator concept.

I have a BR/TA and it is nice on teams. Though I am quite partial to TA my self I love it solo or on teams. I have found that Beam Rifle on the other hand I only like to play on teams. For some reason Beam is really boring solo for me, but even paired with one other person it suddenly feels like it comes alive some how.

I really like my Beam/Poison I set the 2 poison debuffs to my alt mouse buttons. 1 redraw every 30 seconds isn't to bad. The only issue I have with it is have to be in the middle of a mob for max debuff. But, once I got my tier 3 Clarion I was more than happy to run into the mob after my cone attacks.

You don't really have to worry about redraw if you open with your arrows and then kill everything before the debuffs run out. You'd only draw each weapon once.

I'm having fun with a Beam/Rad corruptor so far. He's only level 16 or so, but Radiation Infection doesn't cause redraw (kinda surprised, but it's a 1 handed animation). Enervating Field and Radiant Aura do, however. I think any of the debuff sets probably work fine with it, lay down your debuffs first and then blast away. I tried /Poison but didn't like it much.

/Poison was fine for my MM who could spend the whole time debuffing non-stop but less fun on a corruptor where you should be devoting some time to blasting as well. I found the same thing for Trick Arrow too though (a lot more fun on a MM who can have their pets do damage autonomously versus a corruptor who has to alternate between blast and debuff).

Personally, I'd go for:
-Sonic
-Rad
-Dark
-Traps

As ones that I'd think would have good synergy. Sometimes though, sets you don't think will work together can mesh really well. Roll a few different flavors and give em a try through the first few levels. You can never have too many alts and you never know what you might stumble on! Just my two cents, of course.

i tried a couple of Beam/* toons, even beam/rad, i deleted bearm/rad because i realized that spending 6 seconds to cast anchors on stuff that some noob will kill before i get to pew pew, is infuriating.

i switched to beam/sonic and its amazing. put the anchor on the tank, sheild your team (which apperently is an aoe now!), then spend the rest of the time in pew pew mode.

if a particularly hard dude shows up, your tier 1 -res click puts him in his place. and from what i can tell, it stacks with the -res anchor you place on a teamate, for like -40% res or some crazy number.

the best part about /sonic, is most if not all the skills, require very few slots to be made super effective. . . like 2 or less...

which means all slots back into your pew pew!

just make sure you 3 slot your anchor with end reds...

I'm running around with a Beam Rifle/Kinetics Corruptor, I like it well enough.

Hey thanks for all the advice folks. I am going to go with Beam/Sonic and see how that goes.

Edit: I went with Beam/Rad, running with my gf who is Claws/Elec on the preatoria side. Loving it so far.

So I guess /Time has no synergy with Beam? Is it because Time is so clicky and doesn't leave much room for pew pew?

Yes, and both Beam Rifle and Time Manipulation benefit from taking as much of the powerset as possible.

It makes for relatively inflexible builds, as well as unwanted delays on tasty powers.

Besides that, /Time favors getting a bit close (its aura has 25 feet) and with BR your main AoE is a fast recharging cone.

I'm having trouble liking BR so I made 3 toons so far. BR/Poison, hated it because it's clickier than any other secondary, also the tier 9 is a 15 feet PbAoE aura and I never had reasons to get close to mobs.

BR/Traps looked like the most synergistic - charge into melee, deploy traps, go back and blast. I didn't get him so far because I'm kinda sick of traps.

My latest is a BR/Cold because I'll only have to get close to use Heat Loss, which doesn't require me to stand in melee all the time to make full use of it like Time's aura, Poison's tier 9 and Hurricane. I think Pain might be a good pairing too, the PbAoEs are in a long recharge and after the early levels you won't heal as often.

I'm a fan of my Beam/Sonic, still a lowbie for now, but is developing nicely.

I would have picked Beam/FF if Corr had /FF. My goal is to blast as much as possible while not using secondary much. /FF is pretty much you use the shields and toggle up and blast!

/Sonic is similar but I hate /sonic. :P

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
