Yep, he's a boss at the start of the thing. Not really worth anything but XP that I've seen so far. However my friends and I think that if someone on the team is in the Trial for the first time, you can't spawn him.

That may or may not be true, quite probably not, but it seems we can only get Black Whip to spawn when all 4 team members have run through the house at least once.

Cutscenes and text boxes are one way to go, but once you've seen these then you don't really want to see them again, and its a problem if some of the team has seen them, some haven't, and the rest just want to go kill something.

At the very least though, everything should be solo-able, even if its suicidal to try.
I agree so much I couldn't think of anything to add if my life depended on it.

Not true; my first time through the house, we had a team leader take us around the sides to get it.

Which is why I said, "quite probably not" in my post. For some reason, he doesn't always spawn. I have yet to figure out why.

I think the Devs know we would like a 'Beast Master' Mastermind set, and it would even be appropriate for this game. However, such a set is a VERY long way off, still. Considering that the wolf in the mansion does not walk around? That tells me the quadraped skeleton isn't close to finished enough to actually include in any meaningful way yet.

So, once again... we will probably see animals phased in as enemies before we get access to any form of pet.

If anyone goes into the house, he won't spawn.

I've had a random PUG on Virtue go through and mad dash it, but still quickly mad dash spawn Black Whip at the beginning before anyone went in. It was an... odd experience.

But I've enjoyed the Haunted House trial so much I made a video of it.

Is Black Whip and the wolf at the beginning the only easter eggs? If there are more please PM me on how to find them, yes I could just go run it, but somone always rushes in even when asked not to.

That was one thing I thought of as well, but we've had all four outside and he still hasn't spawned. Unless all you have to do is touch the doors or the steps or something, which could flag Black Whip not to spawn.

What's the easter egg-ness behind Black Whip? I don't get the reference.


Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

first time did this with a reasonable PuG, second time with good friends...several other times with PuGs

got the It's Alive badge EASILY on four or five characters

made a frankenstein girl to get it again....elec/stone dom

and I've failed five times to get the it's alive badge....it's pretty aggravating

A lot of the art assets on the Trial could be part of a planned Croatoa revamp, possibly shifting it from 25-34 to 30-40, and opening it up to villains too as a co-op zone - although I'm not sure if they'd follow up First Ward with another zone that had quiote so many similar basic story elements in it - but the zone itself would totally suit the new more detailed textures and geometries for hills, cliffs, tress, grass and flowers that they used in FW.

much as I'd like to see any older map revamped...I think aiming at DA would be best

I'm was basing it on Second Measure saying that the next zone revamp is one that's only been suggested a couple of times on the forums

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember in another thread on the Haunted House that there was an explorable space at the top of the ladder in the room where the second wolf is? Someone mentioned a waist-deep area of water...can anyone confirm/deny this?

On the subject of zone revamps, i don't think Croatoa needs one yet, tbh, when there are older zones sorely in nned of some love. Boomtown and DA for sure, but maybe Terra Volta could do with a revamp. Nuclear reactor, respec trial there, it would encourage folks to go to IP a bit more.
