First Round of Server Wide Competition

Contest Basics:
  • Any Hero, Villain, or Praetorian may enter.
  • Only one entry per account per server is allowed. You may compete on multiple servers (if you are not chosen as a server winner).
  • Characters must be at least level twelve (12) to participate.
  • Once judging has started, no late entries will be accepted.
  • No member of P.E.R.C. may enter (since P.E.R.C. Representatives will be judging).
  • Male and Female characters will compete separately. Huge body types will considered male.

Costume Rules:

  • Customized Weapons are allowed. This includes shields, blades, guns, etc. Players are asked to only draw weapons however and not utilize power animations.
  • Powers Usage is limited. We understand that there are a variety of power customization options, however powers can affect other players unintentionally and can also diffuse attention away from other character components. Players should limit their use of powers and utilize them for Aura purposes. Examples include, but are not limited to Fire Shield, Rock Armor, Personal Force Field, and Invincibility.
  • Be very careful in your power choices and avoid overusing multiple powers. Powers should not hide your costume.
  • Powers that affect other players or have a large radius may result in disqualification from the event. Examples include, but are not limited to Steamy Mist, Lightning Field, Hot feet, and Shadowfall.
  • Please contact a P.E.R.C. Representative if you have any questions about a specific power.

Judging Rules:
  • A panel of P.E.R.C. Representatives from other servers will be compiled to judge this event.
  • Players are urged to utilize costume choices, weapons customizations, emotes, and auras in building their concept for display.
  • Judging for the contest will be scored based on concept, costume, and creativity.
  • Judges will pick a total of 16 contestants (8 Male / 8 Female) at the end of the Server Judging Round to move on to the Semi-Finals Round

Second Round of Server Wide Competition

Semi-Finals:
  • Semi-Finals will take place in the Pocket D Arena.
  • Each Semi-Finalist group will be taken into the Arena separately. Males first, followed by females.
  • A P.E.R.C. Rep will start the Arena Event and set up the teams so that it is Judges vs. Semi-Finalists.
  • Each contestant will have 1 minute to show off their powers! Temporary powers will not be considered, only how well customized powers work with the overall concept. We are looking for you to put on a show!
  • A "dummy" or "test subject" will be announced for the person to target.
  • During this round it is IMPORTANT to listen to all P.E.R.C. Representatives for any additional rules & details.
  • Anybody who griefs and / or kills another contestant inside the Arena will be disqualified.
  • All attendees, who do not make it to the Semi-Finalists, are invited to observe the Semi-Finals event once it starts.

Final Round of Competition (Overall)

Finals:
  • The finals will be based both on concept / costume design (same rules as above) and additionally, contestants will be asked to tell the judges about their character concept.
  • The finals will occur on the Test server, players must be present to win.
  • Costume scores will be formulated the same way as they were in the individual server contest rounds.
  • Power customization and showmanship will be factored in as well.

The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank Paragon Studios and the Community Team for their support and generosity. If you have any questions for this contest, please feel free to contact Madame Pistacio or Arkyaeon via private message or send an email to PERC.COH@gmail.com.

If the copy tool is still down at the time, that may make the finals very difficult to manage.

If the copy tool is down, we will find another solution for the finals I'll be keeping my fingers crossed though!

This sounds pretty cool!

I've never actually entered into any of these contests, but the ability to be able to show off my toon and explain his concept/backstory is exactly what (imo) lacks in CCs... I hope I have time to enter.

Might I ask what are the judging categories? Such as: Costume, powers, showmanship, attitude, back story quality, etc.

In round 1 we will be looking at your costume as a whole (and any aura powers or weapons you have out) and how creative, unified, color choice(do they work together) and original it is.

In round 2 we are looking to see the costume, aura choice, if the power customization you have done adds to the overall concept of the character, the showmanship you use when displaying your powers (do you just stand there and shoot or are you really putting on a show), how any emotes you choose to use add to the concept.

In the finals, you will be asked to tell us about your concept and why you made any specific choices you did (example- a character with no head, you might tell why they do not have one). That will be in addition to everything listed in round 2. Rather than read character's biographies, we want the contestants to have the freedom to tell us what they feel really matters (which may or may not be in their biography).

I hope that answered your question and if I can answer any others, please feel free to post or PM!

So my VEAT is being punished for having a generic VEAT outfit, the only outfit which truly represents who he is and where he came from.
Also the fact that VEATs and HEATs can't customize their powers doesn't bode well.

Good thing my Bio is well thought out, and most on my home server know him. Nephila, Mr. Guardian 2011... it does have a ring to it ::::P

Just because you cannot customize your powers to the the VEAT does not mean that you do not have a united concept. There are lots of options to make a VEAT unique looking including color, hair style, etc. If you put on a good performance to show how strong your concept is, then that is what we will be looking for, not whether your powers are colored or not, but how well thought out and executed your costume/concept/etc. is.

My Nephila is very well thought out.
The problem is.. not many understand the meaning of the name. They see a generic looking Crab outfit with black and gold.
Yes, i have several other outfits, but none of them compliment my concept and background story as my main outfit.
I'm not complaining, all i hope is that this time, the judges look beyond the fact that i look like a regular Crab with a paint job.

I'll be entering, not hoping to win, but supporting the cause.

Maybe just an outfit shouldn't matter, maybe the opinion of the server should play a factor too.
Who's friendly, always helping others, has a great toon with a great concept to match.
Mr. and Mrs. (Server) should be respected and liked by the server's player base. It's just a thought .....
Maybe a different contest?

I'm really looking forward to this, but I'm slightly apprehensive about whether or not my comp will be able to handle/load into a crowded Virtue Pocket D.

How will instances be handled, if any? Will it be the first instance, the lowest available instance, across all instances... etc.? And what about any unfortunate disconnections? It might be helpful to know if I need to stake out hours before the thing starts to ensure I'm anchored to the blooming dance floor.

If there are multiple instances, we will have hosts in each and the judges will move between them. Once we get to the arena portion, you will be able to move out pocket d (if you are chosen) and join the arena event from another zone should your computer not be able to keep up with Pocket D. If someone DCs during the arena match (or on the way in) we've left enough time to set up a second match so that person has a chance to show off his/her powers.

Alright! That's good to know, thank you!

All that's left is to find out if the Copy tool will ever work again. (I do know that you're working on contingency if anything goes south regarding that.)

Not to troll but...

Get to a high enough level to get the first "gimme" costume slot that VEATs automatically get via a small story arc. Bam, instantly fully viable costume, not that a uniform can't be made into solid gold with the proper backing/bio.

And honestly, adding customized weapons/power colors to the mix doesn't spice things up that much, as much as I myself would love to be able to color tint my Kheldian's powers.. It's cake decoration; it makes things prettier but the main point is the cake. Savvy?

The Beta is full of bugs? How can that be?!

I'll counter partly in his DE's defense that he says he has "several costumes" in his post. I'll even assume the character (like the good majority of others that might attend this contest) is Level 50.

The thing with concepters is that (I'll admit I do this, too) they get stuck on what they create, sometimes. Of course, for the concepter himself/herself, this is a good thing since they're able to enjoy it... but being in an online environment as we are, people are going to form their own opinions about it on their own, even without going to a CC like this one where you're literally asking people to judge you.

Unfortunately, there are people who will always be in the camp of arguing that characters who wear generic and recolored VEAT armor / full costume presets / etc. are significantly less creative than those people who take anything above 15 minutes in the costume creator to put something together, backgrounds be damned.

No Epic AT or low-customized AT should feel intimidated into not entering. We have seen quite a few of these ATs chosen into the final 8. As MP said earlier, putting on a performance and displaying your concept to the best of your ability is what's being looked for at that point, since strength of bios and in-depth background is for the Finals.

Good luck to all participants!

This is, of course, a better response than mine above. A CC isn't one without people after all. Loads of people.

Come one and come all, I say.

So, the copy tool is still down and it's the day before the contest. What are the plans for the contest at the moment? Will you be holding individual server finals or putting back the contest until the copy tool is up or do we have to remake our toons or something?

You should have gotten an e-mail. They're doing one-on-one finals. PM or /tell @Arkyaeon (think that's spelled correctly) or anyone in PERC (excluding me, I'm just another finalist) for more details.

Thanks Bubbawheat! Exactly as he said, we sent out emails to all of the finalists and tells as well.

If you are not a finalist and just wanted to watch, then we will be on the test server at 5pm est on December 3rd and it will be more of an Awards Ceremony at that point. (Judges will be watching the demorecords of each finalist prior to the 5pm deadline)

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Ms. Paragon Universe 2011!

And congratulations to all the finalists. No wonder PERC had such a hard time choosing the winners, the creativity was great and the people even better.

Last but far from least, thank you PERC for hosting the contest! It was a happily memorable event.

Posted

Yeah, it was definitely amazing. I was glad to be part of it.

Congratulations to the winners!

And for those who weren't there. Mr. Paragon was Deathsman from Champion, and Ms. Paragon was Azazael

I wish I could steal all the finalists costume codes and insert them into an AE arc to beat down for being so awesome.
