State of Average Costumes

Hard to complain about the costumes in this game period. From release it always looked to me like everyone was playing a totally different game.

That said some of the latest packs (Steampunk, Animal and Halloween) were awesome. But I have no desire to ever get CoTs pack (which looks just like an existing set to me) or Barbarian (which I don't get period). So it is all a matter of opinion I guess.

I'm liking how the cossie creator got updated but it needs finishing and the bugs fixing.

Personally, I find that I'm lucky if I manage to create one standout cossie in ten. Part of the problem of altitis is that we have something in the region of 840 costume slots before we need to buy one.

Not every cossie is gonna be good.

Also, the randomizer sucks

For all of the complaining about the new CoT pieces -and I agree, the arc-reactor belt should have been in there - I think they are awesome....

The barbarian female corsets are *swoon* - beautiful.

Also very impressed with the new bat aura, tho it still needs a glowing-eyes option, and the spiderweb wings are Made of Win.

Now, if we could get the red-lipstick-and beauty-mark Victorian female face added as an option, purchaseable or otherwise, I would be in costume nirvana. But am enjoying the other new parts overall.

For some odd reason, I missed the "or new" part and was just thinking that you were saying that the new stuff rocks and the old stuff shouldn't even be used if you want to look good at all, hahaha...
Not that I took it as that extreme from you! I just thought you were saying that the old stuff didn't hold up!
My apologies!!
Ignore all of that from me!
Haha
(although, I don't think I said anything bad, at least! I just -mistakenly- thought that I needed to stick up for the old stuff, haha!)
Nope, not bad, I've just gotten the urge to make sure I am clearly understood in my posting and it seemed like perhaps I wasn't in this case. No worries!

It's only gotten worse since the costume selection itself has grown so much. At least the original set was somewhat self limiting and you could sometimes get an idea or two (that you would tweak into a real costume). Now it's a serious mish-mash.

The other problem being that it uses every slot so you always wind up with some weirdo with wings, a tail and an aura.

Completely agree. Less is more when it comes to costumes, in my opinion. No reason to make them overly busy.

I do like how the art designers are belting out both simple costume parts and overly ornate stuff, so that both crowds are appeased, though.

Oh, absolutely!
I apparently need to do a better job of making sure I read what people are saying though!

While I agree that is possible to make a very ornate costume, I don't find the more recent costumes overly ornate. I find them to be extremely useful pieces used in moderation. While it's true that it's possible to layer them all on top of you and make your character vanish, using just the big belt, or big shoulders, or huge chest piece, or oversized shoes creates contrast. In particular, what I like about more recent costume pieces is how easily they combine with other parts, and how many of them have unique silhouettes, which IMO is critical in a game where other players are normally only visible very small and in constant motion.

IMO some of the best recent pieces are the barbarian arm guards (small wristband like bracers), the barbarian belt, the vampire ascot and cape-neck, and the steampunk tops for women.

My least favorite pack is the Circle of Thorns pack, not because it is overly ornate, but because the extremely distinctive pieces (hat, belt) are missing.

Hellions? More like "Happiness is a Warm Gun."

The chest detail (only available to males/huge) buckle strap/ring strap is worth getting imo.

There's many older pieces that simply need to have a higher-resolution texture applied to them to bring them into line with today's standards. Even basic Tights pattern (or Tops w/skin) would benefit from a higher resolution texture so the edges look sharper and less-blurry.

Although that said, I would rather see a new version of such a piece put into the game as a new entry (or rename the existing entry as "Version 1" or "Old Version"), just in case the newer, sharper pattern would be detrimental to people's costumes. For instance, I use the Mesh pattern on a couple of my characters to achieve a rather convincing chainmail effect, a higher-rez texture to sharpen that image could actually ruin the effect.

Like everything, some of the more ornate new pieces (CoT, Ascendant) look good when used in moderation. I often fill most body slots on a costume while still looking somewhat subtle, you just have to choose Sport shoulders instead of Pain Pads

Additionally, I agree with the people who feel the CoT set doesn't have much universal appeal, I just poached the nice, striking parts like the kilt and hood from it.

The last one I entered, the winner had the full Valkyrie set. That's it. Yeah it looks cool, but if you're going to award someone for the full set, it should be Jay or whoever created the thing. That was just too much. I haven't entered another one since.

I doubt I will ever enter another one again either. The Fight Crime in Style contest has pretty much burned me. Not because I didn't win, I can live with that. It is more that they didn't announce the winners at all. That has a way of making it seem shady IMO.

Eye of the beholder. they're all subjective. You should know that before going into any costume contest.

You should really learn that when you see people who just hit the random button, win.
