I want the AoEs. All of them

... except the ones that are Fire or Crab Soldier related. :P

I tend to have the most fun in this game when I'm blowing away rows of minions and lieutenants like leaves in autumn. Or so I've found recently, anyway, with the latest offensive powersets (Beam and StJ) leaving a bored taste in my mouth.

So I want to make something that destroys giant spawns. The trick is, I don't want to involve Fire, and I don't want to involve Crabs, both for the same reason: I dislike the aesthetic. Other than those, archetype doesn't matter.

So, any recommendations?

TA/A defender...oil slick+rain of arrows will kill a +2 spawn all by themselves and there are tricks to getting larger spawns (can do +3 with just those if have assault + the -rez incarnate....can do +4 if RoA twice). Yes, oil slick involves fire a bit but it is mainly about archery and you can rest safely with archery in the ta/a concept.

Play a huntsman...they have lots of AOE and don't have dippy crab legs

Also, both are rare-ish so you can stand proud!

A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator

No fire? Well there goes 99% of suggestions I'd ever have.

I had an incredible Plant/Psy Dom for a while, I deleted it when they nerfed PSW to a 20 second recharge, but it is still a very good spec with great aoe control and damage.

Archery/Mental is another good choice, for a blaster, an Archery/Cold Corr could be good too, with RoA falling on Sleet, though I've never played either cause they aren't fire.

SS/Shield is also very good as mentioned, I ran one before as well until they nerfed Fury and I deleted it along with any other Brute I had at the time.

A /Time corr can do the same thing with any primary.

Well I WAS going to suggest a Rad/Fire/Mu blaster, but Fire Manipulation can moderately easily be substituted with Mental Manipulation.

3 cones in the form of Psychic Scream, Electron Haze, and Static Discharge.
2 Targetted AOE's in the form of Neutron Bomb and Electrifying Fences.
2 PBAOE's in the form of Irradiate and Psychic Shockwave.

Then you take Atomic Blast and Spring Attack.

This is quite literally more AOE's than you'll reasonably be able to use. But don't let petty details like "reason" stop you! You'll have 5 for using from range, and 4 you can use in melee. VERSATILITY!

Make a Human Form Peacebringer. Once you have enough recharge for Perma Light, you'll also have an AoE chain of Destruction with Seekers, Detonation, Solar Flare, and Proton Scatter. You'll also have a nice ST chain for EB/AV's with L Blast>I Strike>L Blast>R Strike. Oh, and you'll be pretty much invincible all the time if you pick up some defense toggles and invest a bit.

I *would* have suggested Rad/Fire Blaster, 4 AoEs by level 10, 9 by 38 (10 if you count Consume). With the limitation of no Fire, then I'll put forward the MFing Warshade (Where's Dechs when you need him? I'm sure he's omnipotent when this kinda thing comes up). OR Elec/Shield/Mu for the insanity of it, especially if IOd up.

Y'know, if the only thing stopping you from using Fire is the look of it, /Fire Manipulation does colour like Radiation pretty nicely.. Y'know, just saying.

Adding to the Elec/Shield Scrapper suggested above, you also take Spring Attack from the Leaping pool.

Omnipotnent, possibly. The problem is that he's not quite omnipresent yet. I'm sure he's working on it though.

"Hmm, I guess I'm not as omniscient as I thought" -Gavin Runeblade.
I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

My high-end elec/shield scrapper has 4 big AoEs (including Judgment), 2 smaller AoE attacks, and 2 single target attacks.

Basically everything but the bosses dies in 3 seconds, and then I spend another 10 seconds flailing on the bosses. But in the end if you love AoE it's awesome, especially since it's "instant death" AoE over the "slow death" AoE of damage auras.

Fire and colour it?

Try a Bots MM. They tend to be a bit slow (but sturdy) before level 32, but once you get the second upgrade you get a truly impressive amount of AoE. Fire, explosions, photon grenades, and a ton of lasers all tearing into a spawn makes a heck of a pretty light show. Go Bots/Traps and you can add to the fun with Trip Mines and Poison Traps, plus the Photon Grenade power isn't horrible (it's lousy damage, but at least it's lousy damage to a bunch of targets).

Another fun combo is a Plant/Storm Controller. With good recharge you can keep Carrion Creepers around full time and spam Roots to do decent AoE damage while Tornadoes and Lightning Storms blast the spawn and they sit there shooting at each other thanks to Seeds of Confusion. It's not as fast as some other sets but it's a lot of fun and it can handle pretty tough spawns (+1/x8/bosses was what I ran on mine).

Of course if you really want AoE goodness and don't mind spending a lot of inf, just get a SS Brute with insanely high recharge and sit there Foot Stomping every few seconds until everything dies.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)

Claws/Elec/Mu brute. Not a high AoE power count, but Spin is up fast, your taunt aura scales with Fury, and you have Electric Fences and Ball Lightning too. Very fun at high levels, even on SOs.

Night Widow / Mu. Again with Spin and the Mu AoEs, but you trade the taunt aura in for relatively easy soft-capping. I have a relatively cheap build that can handle at least 51/8.

And in both cases you can shred through hard targets pretty easily too, especially with the widow.
