If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.

Interesting proposal... but "Wand Mastery" seriously needs a different name. As it is, well, it is rather comical.

This is the best suggestion yet on this topic. I love it!

Yeppers, now we just need two more suggestion to round out the Pool.

Wyvern and Legacy Chain? Longbow?

And who would be the contacts for the missions associated with these pools? Ideally, they should be high profile heroes to mirror the Villain ones.

Also, there is a slight issue with using Vanguard as a Hero Patron Pool: Vanguarad is a co-op group and as such, should allow Villains to earn those powers as well.

Well, considering the text for the Vanguard Badge for Vills:

Villains

Vanguard still values your efforts against the extra-dimensional invaders, but they no longer trust you as much as before. Without you even knowing it, they have silently confiscated your Rikti power amplifier. Vanguard ops are good.

I don't think Vanguard would trust the villains with such training.

And Longbow and Ouroboros would have been my first choices for the others.

I wouldn't mind a change to the narrative to suggest the skills were somehow stolen.

Longbow, Ouroborus, and Hero-Corp could be added as well.

While I'm behind the idea of Heroes getting patrons... I don't think you quite understand the concept behind it. It's more about the specific mentor than the group they represent. There's no Arachnos Patron, there's a Ghost Widow/Black Scorpion/etc Patron.

So instead of Vanguard powers, they'd be closer related to Lady Grey's powers.

But that's just more of a nitpick than anything else.

Personally, I don't think we could do Patron powers for Heroes without non-Patron powers for Villains as well. Ya know, keep things even.

I also think we should have some Praetorian Patron Powers... but that may be going too far.

I would suggest against Ouroboros, and indeed, Midnighter or Vanguard as well.
These organizations work on both sides of the fence, so it would feel a bit odd for them to be the "heroic patrons".

My suggestions would be:
-Change Midnighter wand mastery into Legacy Chain "Arcane Mastery" some power changes might be needed.

-Change Vanguard into Longbow and the name can become "Special Agent Training", powers will likely need to be adjusted.
You might also consider instead basing the set off of the PPD.

I would like to see Hero Patron as well as Co-op Patron Pools to become available.

Hero Patrons

Longbow
Legacy Chain
Hero Corp
Wyvern

Co-op Patrons (Hero & Villain)

Vanguard
Midnight Squad
Ouroboros

My apologies... I sometimes have trouble explaining my line of thinking.

Right now, Heroes have to switch for PPPs and Villains have to switch for APPs. If you add Hero PPPs, that's another thing Villains will have to switch sides for... while Heroes won't need to.

No they don't. APP's are automatically unlocked for all Villain AT's once they reach the appropriate level.

Perhaps the Midnighters, Vanguard and Ouroboros (Time Manip like?) could be the generic patrons of all alignments. Heroic patrons should probably be Heroes, it makes sense.

Statesman, Back Alley Brawler, Manticore and all of "Those Guys" would make more sense. But I would not object to Hero Corps, Longbow, Wyvern or even PPD. Heroes need Patron pools for that extra bit of variety that we need to flavor each individual character.

Meh... I'm not sure they could come up with a believable 'Statesman' or 'Manticore' pool... The Villain Patrons work because each one has their own organization within Arachnos backing them. The Signature Heroes do not... leading to the scenario of "Am I supposed to believe that (Signature Heroe X) took time out to train my character personally? Why? And how would that work for the other thirty dozen or so with that pool out there?"

(Okay, Manticore does have Wyvern, but I thought he was 'supposedly' keeping that connection under wraps, so Wyvern can act when he, a Hero, can't?)

Also, before I will believe any Hero Corp patron, I insist on seeing Hero Corp DO something! Something more than stand around and change our difficulty settings, at any rate.

I like Legacy Chain, Vanguard, Midnight Club, Wyvern, and maybe PPD for Patron options... as far as Hero Corp? They don't DO anything, or so it seems. And Longbow is utterly too present as it is, and would not really be able to offer exciting powers we don't already have... most of them use guns.

WOW! I think I really like the direction this idea is going in, I am sure some folks will have quibbles about the type/arrangement of powers on offer, but the general concept is great.

It would also afford the opportunity to create a GREAT set of unique missions to allow Heroes to have exclusive unlockable Powers like Villains. And the fact that Co-Op ones would be availble is just an awesome facet.

Now you're cooking with GAS! ! !

Well done Kirsten! You have done a lot of excellent work! I wholeheartedly endorse the ideas presented thread. (For what my opinion is worth anyway! )

I really like the idea of NPC Group powers, but I still think Heroes need specific patrons, like Positron, etc. This is a good idea, a GREAT idea, but it isn't a patron power idea. That said, I think it should be implemented on both sides.

Heroes eventually get Posi, Synapse, Sister Psyche, whoever, etc as patrons because villains have Scirocco, Ghost Widow, etc as patrons. Then there's also all the NPC groups you can train with and get the listed powers. So then that idea should also be carried over Redside.

Training with the CoT would be pretty cool! How about getting some Crey tech? Maybe the Rikti will even train you a bit. Maybe go have some fun with Carnival of Shadows. The 5th Column/Council are recruiting! Maybe even Malta or Knives of Artemis wil llet you sign up.

I realize this would be an INCREDIBLE under taking, but I think the results and options for normal play and RP would be amazing. They could even tie it into the Day Job system. If you want to train with NPC Group X, first you have to get an associated Day Job badge or something. Or maybe training with them is a faster way to get a day job badge.

All these powers though...Ancillary, Patron...I think we need more levels too. Let's go up to 75! MOAR POWERS AAAGGGGHHH

Players already have a beef with 'siding up' with patrons (me personally, I like the idea of my guy stepping up and taking advantage of certain power...it's almost like he's vying to erase and replace said patron).

I get what you're saying, but many don't really care for 'side kicking' under Positron or Sister Psyche.

So what about the other way around? You're not training under one of the big names, you *are* the trainer and you're helping a less-known progress into hero-dom. The idea being, to progress this hero, you seek out implements/tools/techniques/power that this hero would use then teach it to them, the results being you now have as much knowledge as the one you taught.

Instead of learning from States/BAB/Manti, you're training Stalwart/Sky Dragon/Flower Knight (or whatever) to gain greater abilities to help fight the bad guys. That could even be the hook for the story linked to unlocking the pool. Not that the above proposed ideas in the OP aren't good, just putting that idea down there as I'm curious what others would think of it.

...Oh, and they wouldn't be called Patron Pools...maybe Sidekick pools or Training pools...and I'd probably not try to directly copy the PPP's formula to make the pools either...some other variance on how they are set up similar to the difference between the PPPs and the APPs...

Anyway, great discussion. Keep it up.

@Emperor_Justice: The difficulty with that, story-wise, is that the Heroes wouldn't really have time to train umpteen-thousand heroes. The Patrons have hundreds of thousands of enforcers to do their dirty work while they train people. Excepting Miss Liberty's Longbow and Manticore's Wyvern Soldiers, The heroes are pretty swamped saving the world repeatedly. Thus, organizational training. Perhaps they should be called "Training Pools", But Patron is just the existing name for the most similar sets already in existance.

All in all, it's good to see that you guys like my idea. I'm glad my work did not go unappreciated. If there are any balance issues, Go ahead and tell me. I just want to make it the best suggestion it can be.

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.

Strange... I could have sworn I tried it with a my VEAT and wasn't able to access APPs until I switched sides. Perhaps I remembered wrong... I do that sometimes. My apologies.
