  1. That's pretty much spot on, my problem with it. I Like the idea of Incarnates, and I love the CoH lore, and I'm even okay with my toon being an Incarnate-ish type thing, but I want him to stick to his techy origins. Not be gifted with Zeus powers like States, or Tartarus powers like Recluse. I don;t want my robot inventor guy becoming Hephestos. I want him to be robot inventor guy who got gifted with brilliant insight into mechanical/robotic knowledge.

Summoning robot ghosts doesn't jive with that.
  2. I really have to question how some of these decisions get made in the first place.

"Our game's big selling point is making a 100% customizable character! And now you have to take this power that fits into our definition of the lore instead of your character concept!"

"Hey, is it easier to just have them summon existing models, or to tweak the models so they're transparent and add ghostly auras to them? Easier to just leave the models as is instead of changing them? Hey let's change them!"

    What are you guys thinking.
  3. I would also be perfectly okay with a transparent/non-transparent option, but figured that would require more work then simply using the default non-ghostly models.
  4. So, Lore pets. They're pretty cool. I like 'em. What I don't like is that they're transparent and have cob-webby looking auras around them.

I'm playing a robot guy. He summons warworks. Ideally, I'd like to say he lifted some schematics from a Clockwork factory in Praetoria and can now summon one or two on his own. Except they're all ghostly and misty and stuff. So he is basically summoning robot ghosts (or ghost robots, i dunno), which sounds ridiculous.

Most of the Incarnate stuff I can pass off as "upgrades." My robot guy glimpses into the Well of Furies and receives insight into tech advancement, letting him supercharge his internal batteries and shoot electricity(ionic judgement), or beef up his arm cannons (musculature alpha slot) etc. but there's no getting around Ghost robots (or robot ghosts).

So please, for god's sake, just make the damn things solid. If somebody wants to say "Yeah it's a memory of a defeated foe from the Well," they can still do that! Arachnos themed characters can say "Yeah this is my back up squad. they're real Arachnos because they're not see-through and ghosty." Natural-based characters can just say "Yeah these are my buddies who are real and not some crazy ghost memory thing." Mutant characters can say "These are actual mutants/beasts I've called, not phantasms of a transdimensional source of cosmic energy." And tech characters can say "These are actual robots I built and not undead mechanical spectres."

The big problem a lot of people seem to have with the Incarnate stuff is that it forces an aspect of Lore onto their toons. It's why so many people are calling for more judgement powers because thematically, the four existing choices are really limited.

So just make the damn things solid, okay? no more robot ghosts (or ghost robots).

    new MM set

I'd like to see this but with more a "Warriors of the ages" theme to it. So the minions would be like, grunt legionnaires, the mid-level guys could be vikings, and the last dude could be an elite Samurai or something.

It'd be awesome for time-travelish characters, especially since Time is now a MM secondary!

    Animal MM Set

I'd rather see a beastmaster theme to an animal MM set than a "big game hunter" theme, which is what you've got with the rifle and such.

Ranged attacks could be like a boomerang, or a spear, or maybe even commanding a falcon to fly at your enemy from your hand like a real falconer.

I'd also like to see a temp. swarm power a la Gang War or Hell on Earth that summons a massive flock of birds or swarms of rats/small animals.

Also, having one animal across an entire set is lame. Vote no to all dogs/cats/whatever.

Tier 1: Wolves. Mostly melee with a sonic attack, ranged "howl"
tier 2: Big cats of some kind (prefer tigers but leopards, jaguars or whatever would be cool too) Basically scrappers.
Tier 3: Big bear. Can induce AoE stuns with stomps and roars that disorient/fear foes. Tankish.
  7. I'm a damn expert at the BAF and LAM trials, but since nobody ever apparently runs Keyes or Underground, I've yet to experience those and have no clue about them whatsoever.

    Kind of a bummer!

Some kind of tutorial or info during the loading screen might be nice.

And, you know, actually finding somebody who will run Keyes or Underground.
  8. Don't tell other people how they should or shouldn't be playing, or force them to play a certain way unless it is actively disturbing your gaming experience (which this isn't).

    Dumb idea.

    /unsigned
  9. If you seriously cannot afford a ONE TIME payment of $5, you should not be playing a game. You should be getting another job because you are clearly destitute and impoverished.

The only people I can think of who, realistically, couldn't afford a one time payment of $5 are:

the homeless (where'd you get a computer and net connection then anyway?!)

    And really that's it.

Plus, the friend can clearly afford a premium subscription to World of Tanks, so there's that. It's opportunity cost. Quit moaning.

    Heroic Patrons!

At this point what you're basically saying is "My interpretation is the most correct and everybody should be forced to accept it."

You're either a troll or completely daft.

Either way, this conversation has turned stupid, so I'll say that organization/group power pools and heroic patrons are awesome, arbitrary gold titles are not, peace out.

    Heroic Patrons!

    Actually, it is more idiotic.
Taking a patron or mentor at the level of the Freedom Phalanx, the most prestigious heroes in game, is a status symbol. You are worth their time. You are good enough to use/learn their power, and when you finish their arc, you're like an equal.

Hell, when you finish the villain patron arc, you hand Recluse his own smashed up helmet.

That's significantly less idiotic than being delegated "sidekick" like Jimmy Olsen or Robin.

And then there's always the blatant, bvious answer to why someone with power would do missions like this: to get more power. Duh.

    It's a bad idea.

I'm suggesting the option. If you want a stupid title, you can take it. If you don;t want it, you don't have to take it! You're suggesting the dumb title be mandatory, which boggles my mind.
  12. No idea how feasible or how much extra work this would be, but yeah, the option of putting heads inside the tank would be spiffy. Just like, a normal head and then the usual head options, or at least ones that wouldn't clip outside the bubble (i.e. masks, sunglasses, etc)

    Good idea!

    Heroic Patrons!

How can you get rid of something that doesn't exist yet?

And I've been stressing choice. Just give me the option not to take it, while still getting to play the content.

EDIT- also, really dreadful title suggestions. I don't want my level 50 +4 Incarnate that's beat the snot out of Recluse, Emperor Cole, Nemesis, Dimensional gods, alien invaders, and elite paramilitary groups to be lugging around "Sidekick."
    That's idiotic.

For me communicating is the most basic part of the game, it's why I tried to bring a friend here.

I tried to get a new player into the game, I am sorry to have bothered the almighty forum gurus that only seem to be interested in telling me "You should have known that" and "If she doesn't pay she can do without" , with one exception the Friends channel I missed that, thank you.

I think I shall skip City of for a week or six, if this is the attitude we have to getting friends into the social parts of the game.

Edit: I started this, in this part of the forum to indicate why my friend probably won't join us in Paragon city hoping that I could get help to overcome the obstacles and get a new member. Instead I'm feel like I'm told off, when I try to get a friend into a game so that we can play together when it went free to play.
If this is how you act after being too busy to read a super easy side-by-side chart, then you and your friend are probably more welcome elsewhere.

A simple "Oops I missed that, thanks guys," would have gotten you miles farther than getting bent out of shape, then basically saying "WEH I'M LEAVING! YOUR FAULT!" and snapping at folks. If you're going to make assumptions, prepare to be wrong, then prepare to be corrected.

See, SEVEN CHOICES! \o/ It's all about choices!

Not to mention, you can always make it so you never see the gold title, by turning off the option to see the name of the character floating above their head.
    You missed the point entirely.

What about the option of "I don't want garish, ugly yellow text following me around,"?

Yeah, I could turn stuff off, but I find the titles and names above people's heads useful, and would still like to have my own name and title up there, just not with a nasty yellow sign up there.

So then my choice is, what, back to not playing the content again because I'll be forced to select one of seven things tacked onto my name? nope. Stupid idea.

Badge, then I can choose if I want any title or no title.

I mean, I realize this is all hypothetical and will likely never happen ,but Devs, please, if you're reading this, no arbitrary yellow titles ever please. I'd like to play the content without having something ugly next to my name. Thanks.
  16. Have you seen the power armor animations for CO (yes I'm mentioning another product, deal with it)? You can pick any costume piece you like and the animations still look fine.

    It's possible!

And yes, PA is a pretty techy, sciency powerset, so people who want a mutant or magic character would be out of luck using it or have to get pretty creative explaining it, but we already have tech powers i.e. robots, devices, traps, Assault and Energy rifle, so it's not impossible.
  17. Emperor_Justin

    Heroic Patrons!

    That's...no.

Saying "Don't play game content if you don't want an extra name floating over your head!" is dumb. If sticking names and titles next to my own were mandatory (as you are proposing) for big missions/arcs, I'd never play them because I don't want "Rule of Three" or "Positron's Ally" next to my name. That's lame. I want to pick something more befitting my character, not have something thrust upon me.

Granting a badge gives players a CHOICE of using it as a title instead of forcing a set title upon them. Choices are always better than mandatory settings. Always.

Granting a badge like the villains gives players the choice of having a title or not, and they still get to experience the content and unlock powers. Denying players the choice of getting new powers or running new missions because they don't want a garish title above their name is silly.

It's be like automatically assigning the "HELPER" title to anyone whose subscribed for more than two years.

"Well if you don't want that title, stop playing at 23 months!"

Obviously that's an extreme and unrealistic example, but it's the same basic premise as what you're proposing which is...you know...not a good idea.

You're really getting hung up on this and it's kind of a dumb thing to put too much emphasis on. Story-wise it doesn't make sense for Sister Psyche, Posi, etc. to stand in one place day and night for years on end.

Story-wise it doesn't make sense for Black Scorpion, Mako, etc to send countless villains on top secret missions over and over again.

Story-wise it isn't realistic to run an Incarnate trial immediately after having run that exact same trial.

Story-wise it isn't realistic to switch back and forth between heroe and villain multiple times and not be arrested on sight by the PPD.

This is a game, one with a lot of rich lore and background, but a game nonetheless. Getting hung up on what is feasible IRL is moronic and a needless stumbling block you;re putting in the way of an otherwise excellent proposition (organization patron powers alongside individual patron powers ).

No, realistically Positron would not be able to train thousands of heroes, but Black Scorpion wouldn't realistically send thousands of villains out on the same secret mission tht could get him in big trouble. Lord Recluse would realistically go hide in a cave if faced with every single one of the people who completed the Destined One story line. But that doesn't happen because htis is a game meant to be played by thousands of people.

And really, even though the villain patrons have underlings, I suspect they are JUST as busy with their scheming and backstabbing and other villainous duties as the Freedom Phalanx are with their heroic ones, so your argument holds no water.

Get over this absurd notion you have about it being "too much work" for the heroes.

  19. So I'm thinking of writing a dumb little CoX story, and while I was thinking of locations and stuff, I began drawing blanks on brand names. CoX has lots of in-universe, fictional corporations Like Crey, Aeon, Portal, etc but lesser known examples of day-to-day businesses.

    For Example:

    Up-n-Away Burger
    Icon Costume Retailers

I know there's more. Is there a fictional coffee chain like Starbucks? What's that Donut place in Faultline called? what about those locksmith ads I keep seeing in the Rogue Isles, or that one drink you can get in Praetoria that's supposed to make you a docile loyalist or whatever?

    Let's get a list going!
  20. Saw this an got interested. I got a character that might fit this SG! And it's Praetoria themed! Awesome!

    Oh.

    Praetor.

    *sigh*

    Heroic Patrons!

I really like the idea of NPC Group powers, but I still think Heroes need specific patrons, like Positron, etc. This is a good idea, a GREAT idea, but it isn't a patron power idea. That said, I think it should be implemented on both sides.

Heroes eventually get Posi, Synapse, Sister Psyche, whoever, etc as patrons because villains have Scirocco, Ghost Widow, etc as patrons. Then there's also all the NPC groups you can train with and get the listed powers. So then that idea should also be carried over Redside.

Training with the CoT would be pretty cool! How about getting some Crey tech? Maybe the Rikti will even train you a bit. Maybe go have some fun with Carnival of Shadows. The 5th Column/Council are recruiting! Maybe even Malta or Knives of Artemis wil llet you sign up.

I realize this would be an INCREDIBLE under taking, but I think the results and options for normal play and RP would be amazing. They could even tie it into the Day Job system. If you want to train with NPC Group X, first you have to get an associated Day Job badge or something. Or maybe training with them is a faster way to get a day job badge.

All these powers though...Ancillary, Patron...I think we need more levels too. Let's go up to 75! MOAR POWERS AAAGGGGHHH

For the same reason that leveling up solo is slower than leveling up with a team. Getting a team together and running a trial is more difficult, but you get more XP and greater rewards.

Running a hypothetical iTrial solo is tons faster and more convenient, but maybe the payout isn't as big.

I mean, if running these things solo is easier and faster and you get better rewards, the trials will be defunct and stupid. I can't see the devs making something that will make their brand new system and content obsolete. there has to be a trade off.
  23. Having other ways to unlock incarnate slots is fine and great and I agree.

Paying cash money to do that is not idea. It's at the lowest point of the valley of terrible ideas.
  24. That is also an acceptable solution. It's seriously stupid.
