Heroic Patrons!

No, this idea does not need more attention. I've never heard someone in game say they enjoy unlocking the PPPs. Heroes do not need their own versions for "balance" or "parity", because we still run into the same issue of villains having to go out of their way to become a hero to get them. What we do need are more APPs. Open to all, not specifically themed around a single character, and the only requirement is gaining levels. Right now it's pathetic how few we really have.

Also, lol necro thread.

It's funny how if somebody starts a new thread, the poster is derided for not finding an earlier thread, but if somebody finds an older thread, they are derided for "necroing". It's an interesting situation...Nobody said that additional APPs wouldn't be a good thing, and if you want those, I encourage you to start a thread to that effect, and not complain about it on a tangentially related thread. You have every right to your opinions, and you also have the right to state those opinions, but you should state them in the correct place.

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.

General rule of thumb:

If it's a month or so old, go ahead and reply.

If it's over a month or two old, give a link in a new thread and at least show you read it and the arguments in it. If you have something new ("I saw this, but thought I'd bring it up, there's a different way this could be tackled maybe") add it. If you don't... it's mostly "why rehash old arguments."

If it's running six months or more... yeah, don't just reply. Link if you want, but that's just too old.

(And if your argument is "I don't care what anyone else says," then post it in a blog and lock it.)

Yes, yes it does. See, we can both do that?

Then you've never talked to me about it.

Personally, I love the added flavor of running missions for a contact and actually committing my character to a given task/agenda. I always pick a Patron that my villain could actually stand to work with (not for... with).

Also, I am ignoring the Necro issue, since, well... this was a good idea when it was posted, and is a good idea now.

I have never understood why "necro-ing" is bad. It doesn't make sense to me to make a new thread when this perfectly good one with the same idea is *points* over there collecting dust. Brush it off, and respond. I just don't get it.

A good idea is a good idea, no matter how old it is.

I hear constant complaints from forum dwellers that a poster failed to search and is just repeating ideas that have already been brought up.
BUT when someone does search and finds an appropriate thread to post to, then folks complain about thread necro.

*Sigh*

The thread remains valid, no matter how old, lets just accept that and move on.

Since it's been less than three months, I don't think it counts as a necro...

But, with the new pools coming out (Sorcery, and the leaked "Worce of Fill" set), I honestly think the idea of new Patrons might not be so far-fetched. In fact, it could be closer than ever before! I hope...

Devs don't like the idea of Patrons. They've said this once or twice on Coffee Talks. If they're gonna go through all the trouble of introducing new Pool Powers anyone can access without having to pick a mentor and sludge through an arc first, why would they take a step backwards mechanically and introduce another batch of Pool Powers afterwards with ridiculous hoops to jump through to unlock? Especially considering today's story telling has evolved to let us actually be the stars, it'd be taking a step backwards in writing as well for us to admit we're weak and need the training of some "big shot hero" in order to be stronger.

Also, it is a necro. Again. I think the new Necro limit is around a month. Someone will probably post a quote of the official rule.

You are correct. They have defined it as at least 30 days of inactivity.

And even though the Forum Rules and Guidelines are linked at the top of every page, since you asked so nicely, I'll comply and provide the quote.

From the section on Rule #5.

Quote:

‘Thread necromancy,’ or ‘necro-posting’ is responding to a thread that has not been active (has had no posts) in at least 30 days. ‘Necro-posting’ is a form of thread ‘bumping’ and as such is prohibited. If you wish to discuss a considerably older topic, create a new post and link to the older discussion.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Maybe the mods will lock it so it can't be necroed a third time.

This one was already the third.

I oppose this idea, because it means I wouldn't have softcapped defense to smashing and lethal on my Midnighter character anymore, because he relies on Scorpion Shield.

What? As if I wouldn't be obligated to respec!

Alternate Build?

Edit: Besides, the Midnighter Pool as I proposed it has a Def toggle, you know.

Hi guys,

I'm closing this thread due to Thread Necromancy. Please remember not to bump threads that haven't seen activity in some time. If you'd like to discuss an older topic, please do so in a new thread. This ensures up-to-date information and prevents the front page of a board from being filled with old threads.

Thank you,
~Mod13
