Beam Rifle sound effects are grating and terrible.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't see anything when I searched.

So let me first say that Beam Rifle as a powerset is very cool, and pretty satisfying, but I feel like it has one enormous drawback. It sounds awful.

I don't normally harp on sound effects, but in this case the Beam Rifle doesn't sound like a "beam rifle." It sounds like a wacky cartoon's idea of what a beam rifle sounds like.

Now I know I'm probably going to get at least one response that says "LOL BAKA BUT HOW DO U NO WAT A BEAM RIFLE SOUNDS LIKE? U WORK FOR NASA OR SOMETHING???"

Well, no. I'll admit, I'm not a lasergunologist, but you don't have to be a chef to know when you're eating crap. I know a couple of people who haven't bought the beam rifle set (despite wanting to) simply because it sounds so very terrible.

Sorry, Paragon sound team. You guys do a lot of great, great work, but in this case I'm gonna have to say you dropped the ball.

Now when I bring this point up between my friends, I seem to get mixed results. What do you think, forum?

Gotta agree... Beam Rifle produces the only sounds in the history of the game I have considered locating so that I can Silence them using that stuff folks in that ancient thread do.

Also, FYI, Baka... You can use [quote=Name] to include the names War Witch and BAB in your signature quotes without taking up the extra space... heck, you could even put the extra comments in there... though you may need to put the name in quotes then.

(WOOT, post ending in 37! I win!! Don't ask me what I win, 'cause I don't know.)

I admittedly haven't tested the nuke yet, but for me, the only power that's really annoying is the cone attack. Of course ymmv, I'm not exactly sensitive to most game effects like some people, but if even I find the cone sound more annoying than Peacebringers (who barely bother me), something needs to be done.

Thank you kindly, good sir! And you win a biscuit, but you'll need to go out and buy it yourself. Contest rules, sorry.

For years I have played the game, enjoying the myriad sounds that we have, music, sound fx, with only the occasional use of back ground music.

Since BR was released, I have CoX sound turned all the way down, and youtube playlists on shuffle.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

i personally like the beam rifle sounds. it sounds quite futuristic and beam like to me, the only one that gets moderatly annoying after long periods is sonic blast, but im good at ignoring what i dont want to hear and i never seen to see many around

actually the most hateful sounds to me are heroside music, so i have music turned off

Eh, I don't mind it.
NOTHING could be more annoying than the persistent ice-aura/armour sounds (still not fixed/silenced >_< ) and the PB 'hhhhrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmwwhhhhhhiiiiiinnnnnee' sound (the only thing I have filed-silenced in game)

The only thing I've given that treatment is the 'power is still recharging' error sound. Thank you game, I know, that's why I was queuing it up to go off as soon as it is recharged...

I actually like most of the beam rifle sounds, though a couple might start to get old after I play the set more. Cutting Beam in particular gives makes a very satisfying bzzzt sound, which gets louder the more targets you hit with it.

The only thing I can remember doing that for was X-Ray Beam? And then only during that period when it was inexplicably bugged so that every time you fired it your character went "AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH." Weirdest sound bug ever.

I'm totally going to make my BR blaster The Men Who Stare At Goats-themed now.

I like em, the only thing that bothers me about them is the sound FX seems to play again on defeated enemies.

I think that's a bug with Disintegrate.

I like the sounds just fine. There aren't many sounds in the game that bother me (taunt, perhaps). Of course, I also realised early on that the options menu had a volume setting and that the game in general was annoyingly noisy at max level. So I tend to play at 10-25% volume, where all the sounds are audible without being gratingly loud. The fact that the sounds are as loud as they are at the low level I have the volume set makes me wonder if the sound designer(s) for the game are half-deaf.
