Fun Support Choices

Having some altitus, or just not enjoying Ninja/Dark MM's anymore. Either way, looking for something fun to play for support and doing Incarnate trials.

What do you guys suggest? I'd like to keep it around using Corr/Def/MM/Troller, but anything will work as long as it's in a support playstyle, hell even a Tanker would be viable.

Depends on what type of seport u are lookin for. Like debuffs/lockin down/buffs/heals.

Like a earth/time troll would lock down, large groups. Also debuff rest to attack wayless to help tank, live. And give a nice def boost to help rest. But I am a noob so yah. Pro may have beter idea.

I'm just seeking anything in the general support section. I've been leveling a Earth/Rad Troller, not too bad but I'm not really feeling 'it'. Had a blast with my Grav/Emp Troller back in the day, but was more of a healer than support.

Play a cold/? Defender. I don't play alts very often, but I have been enjoying my level 35 Cold character lately. You get a great mix of buffs and debuffs, making it easy for you contribute quite a lot to a team.

Well from all I can tell most peps go for def softcap. So takin thermal or cold dom . would help teams resist alot. And all come with good debuffs to help team along with heals. Then dependin on AT u take. Its up to what u injoy playing. Giving u some breathing room.

Do you prefer buffing your friends or debuffing your enemies? Both can be fun, but they suggest different sets. Also, control is a kind of a support in some cases, but it's a very different support. Similarly, a widow or SoA can provide a HUGE buff with the leadership-equivalent powers.

Well I simply want the opinions of everyone here on what they believe is the fun side of support, be it VEAT, Tanker, Troller, Dom, etc.

Ill/Cold. World is ya oyster..almost. I have one and it looks magical.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

i'm a big fan of Dark Miasma, Traps, and VEATs. Probably because i like playing team support powersets that focus on the enemies.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

I'm having a blast with my ice/emp troller. Pitiful damage, but the control is awesome, and it's a very active set on large teams. If you'd rather play a lazier set then you can go with FF or sonic, which are always appreciated but not too demanding to play (in fact I think sonic is really boring). FF is my favorite powerset and if you pair it with a good secondary - I usually go with energy blast for mitigation via knockback - it's awesome support. It's not too useful in endgame content, though, so my FF/nrg is retired.

If you want an unusual type of support you could try storm? I could never get into it because it's too aggressive for my taste, but I love having (good) storms on my team.

If your playstyle is active, go with Mind/Kin. That's the clickiest toon I've ever played, although kin doesn't feel "supporty" enough to me, but it was a blast to play. Mind/FF is just about the safest character you could ever make, with all the aggro-free control and defense buffs, and while FF is a lazy set, Mind is very clicky so you'll never be bored. Mind/Emp is fun too if you like to play surgically and carefully.

If "support" involves locking down foes while casting obvious buffs on your allies, then I think Controllers are the way to go. You could even go back to Grav/Emp with a spec that emphasizes control instead of healing/buffing.

If "support" can be running two sets of Leadership and firing off Vengeance every time a teammate falters, while you run around blasting and stabbing things, then I recommend VEATs (Villain Epic ArcheTypes).

I was just thinking "I wonder if anyone will mention Traps/ or Trick Arrow/ defending", and Dark Miasma is also great fun.

I'd recommend a Fire/Dark or Fire/Rad Corruptor. Neither have any ally shields you have to worry about maintaining like many other support sets but they're both very powerful support sets.

You get your key powers very early on, they're strong soloers and bring a lot to a team, both in damage and support.

/Sonic corruptor might be worth a look. Sonic offers the ability to cause a gigantic swing in resistances, giving your team-mates a significant boost while draining your enemies of their toughness. It doesn't heal, but it's got clicky status protection for friends and a large status protection bubble for you. It also has a reliable single target capture, which you can use strategically to remove problems like Force Field Generators or break up annoying groups of Tsoo Sorcerers and similar foes. Best of all, extra resistance for the team and less resistance for the team's enemies is almost never wasted.

Fire/Traps rocks as well in those regards and it does have a shield which doesn't take much worry.

I'd second the Corruptor recommendations. So many of the secondaries are great and pair well with Corruptors' high-damage primaries. Kin is heavy on support and just glorious for damage. Time appears wonderful, but it's a little bit FOTM at the moment. Traps, Cold, Dark, Rad, and Poison are all incredible debuffers with support powers on the side.

I would probably recommend a Fire/Kin or Rad/Kin for trials.

You could go with a Fire Blast/Cold Domination Corruptor. As far as having both fire and ice powers go, this is one of the more sensible ways because the power sets do what you expect those elements to do. Plus you can pretend to be a stereotypical fantasy game mage.

Depending on the origin, that could be quite literal.

Rad or Traps Defender. Both bring a lot of -res and -regen early, and also add a lot to team survivability (rad with -tohit, and Traps with the +Def FFG), and again, they do so early. That leaves ya free to build to blast, or pick a secondary for more debuffs, if you like. Dark or Sonic would be popular choices, depending on if you want an offensive or defensive focus. Beam Rifle also looks like it has a lot of potential, but I've not played it past level 5 yet, so I'm not an expert there.

Both have the key powers by lvl 12.

This is purely a taste thing, but I like Radiation over Kinetics because rad doesn't require to-hit checks. I just seem to have bad luck with those when they're most needed, even with good slotting and boosting. But not everyone has my affliction, and not everyone's bugged by the same things; I just note it.

My Traps/Beam Defender is now 23 and I'm having a great time with her.

Got SOs last night and immediately afterwards we were doing a Bank Mission in Talos. Silver Mantis decided to show up. She went down faster than [insert tasteless analogy here] after being Poisoned, blinded by Seekers and doused liberally in some Acid. I mean she literally dropped in about 20 seconds once the debuffs ganged up on her.

I live for those points on the map where two spawns appear right beside each other. Instead of "Uh-oh" it's "Woohoo"

Traps is a drop-and-forget set and Beam Rifle appreciates a lot of attention and blasting so it's a nice combo power-wise as well as being very thematic.

My dark/time corr isn't very high lvl yet, but so far I'm really liking all the -tohit. Also time can be colored to match dark pretty well.

Dang yoouuu!! Now I'm gonna make *another* alt. Like I don't have enough defenders...

I almost went with Traps for my Beamer (I need a bumper sticker that says "My other Corr is a Beamer"), but since I played that set to death I went with Time, which is shiny new. But I know how awesome Traps is already and Beam? I don't have a clue as to how it stacks up against other Corr sets, but just look at all the fun!!

Let's just say altitis is a disease you never wanna cure...

OK. Between the David Tennant avatar, and the altitis comment, and the bumper sticker..... I nominate you as winner for today on the internet. Got my vote for WWW Champ for the entire 24 hour period..
