Oh good, now more people will have those hideous gold names.

Wowee - the colour of a type set described as hideous!
Fine, the color itself isn't necessarily hideous, but against the blue backdrop of the forums it clashes awfully.
Thus, hideous.

Our forum names are constantly underlined, so if you have an underscore in your name, it blends in with that line. If you use a gold name, your name is underlined in white but your underscore shows up in gold and sticks out. Not pretty.
Personally, I prefer to be ranked Forum Cartel than VIP, and I like having a white name better overall.
That's not to detract from the merit of the thread, however. That's definitely useful to know and I appreciate the advise.

i like the gold name, makes me feel special lol, that and i think the gold names blend fine with the villain theme

color me confused. i thought only VIPs could post on the forums, so whats the point in giving a VIP rank when thats all that will be posting?

Heh, that's what I was about to say. If only VIP's can post on the forums, what is the sense in being able to identify yourself as VIP?
AFIAK They've been thinking about granting limited posting privileges to premium and possibly freebie players as well.

personally seeing my name in gold makes me smile, dont care if everyone else on forum is gold, being white name for 5 years then getting upgrade to gold is what makes it special for me lol
Seems like too much work.
Using some fancy API magic shenanigans, they should make it so we can make any badge title, character title or dev-bestowed title into our forum title, as long as we've earned it in-game.
For now, I'll go gold. Unlike you Forum Cartel, my choice is between "VIP" or "Rookie".

Alrighty, I know lots of people have been wondering how to go about getting the gold VIP name, so here's the how to.
First, visit your user control panel
Then, on the left hand side under "Networking" select "group Memberships"
Select the "Identify me as a member of this group" next to "VIP Player"
Click "Update display group" and you'll have a shiny golden name on the forums
