Tutorial Voice Utilization
God smegging NO!
I hate that voice. I detest it more than I have words to express. It's generic and grating and so patronisingly....EUAGH!
It's like how a verbal punch from the idiot ball would sound.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

It would be nice also to have a unique voice for each contact, npc ally, or enemy boss, but that would be a monumental task, so probably not feasible.

I'm with Techbot, no. I don't like the voice over at all.
Lets expand the use of this technology to other areas of the game.
And yes, I know there will be some who don't like it - so add an option to turn it on or off. |
(Also, I'm not sure how a game assuming you can't read is "more modern", except in a really cynical "this is the post-literate future" sense.)
Sorry, no thank you.
If there were an on/off option, I'd immediately turn it off.
I do not like that voice specifically because it is completely out of context for the game, very immersion breaking. I would not want my game being broken up with similar voices throughout.
IF the voice was an actual character speaking their own dialogue, I might be willing to consider it.... but again, it would have to be optional.

I like the voice... for the tutorial.
In game I'd rather it be used for the in-mission communications from Keith Nance and the like. If they had an actor that got into the roll, if the voice used inflection and all it'd be cool.
The in-mission popups are technically suppose to be radio transmissions so it would make sense. Also, I can never bother reading them as they fly by while I'm knee deep etc.
Though. It would have to have an on/off switch.
Not to mention the fact that this would cost $ for hiring the actors and all.

I, too, would like more voice-overs. You can turn them off if you don't like them, so don't deny me more voice-overs!
No, to all voice-overs.
Well, lots of disagreement here.
Personally, I think if you took the voice-over out of Starcraft 2, it would lose a lot of appeal.
"General Raynor, the Zerg are closing on your position" as a voice-over is superior to a text message at the bottom.
The corresponding text in the UG trial - "The IDF are closing on your position. Prepare for an ambush!". Just text doesnt cut it for me.
I also think other MMORPGs feel more polished where you can actually hear feedback from the Bosses you're fighting vs just text. Granted, they usually need a greater number of lines than what they currently get. It would drive me nuts to actually hear Marauder say over and over "On the ground again?".
I would think 20 to 30 lines would be sufficient.
Feedback from NPC vendors would be a nice touch as well. You usually hear something like "Can I help you?" or "How are you doing?". Again, it's just fluff - but fluff makes a game feel more polished.
IMO, after this many years, this stuff should have already been implemented.

Is there a way to turn off the voices?
Enjoy your day please.

Yes, the popup text shows up in the chat window, but I'd love to have some narration for them.
* The areas in some missions that say "Map Unavailable" really piss me off, too.

I like those voices and I think voices are better and less clumsy choise than those ugly new too fast text boxes in some new missions and I don't have time to read them anyway. Option to select voice or new uglies would be great. And greetin voice for every npc. Thats very simple thing and give more living feeling in game.
Some of us hate voices. Thats ok and option is always good. I hate all game musics and my first action in every game is turn music off and after that adjust graphics. (but music with logical source like radio or jukebox is not game music it's part of enviroment. That's totally different thing what devs forgets all the time) Last good game music was in Turrican 2 ... but not in Amiga version. Amiga stinks.

i actually like the new voice overs..and if...IF they expand them they do need to get voice talents (or w/e their called) cos generic voices for everyone will never work..tho at the same time, i dont want to see them everywhere.
I really liked the female tutorial voice - kind of reminded me of the voice in Star Craft 2. Nice touch that made the game feel a bit more modern.
Now for my suggesion. Lets expand the use of this technology to other areas of the game.
Example:
In the UG trial, you get popup messages like "Desdemona has been freed" or "Advance to the next level". How about adding that same voice to accompany the text?
Example 2:
You get clues during TFs or certain arcs. How about a shortened version of
the clue using voice? Come to think of , it doesnt necessarily have to be the same voice...
Example 3:
You get popups for certain events like:
- Exploration/Other badges
- Mission Completion/Failure
The voice could accompany these accomplishments.
And yes, I know there will be some who don't like it - so add an option to turn it on or off.
