Characters or sets that you've just...
Oh, one more:
Emoses, my Sonic/Pain Corrupter. Again, the pitfall of a nearly pure support character; this one at least has a theme I enjoy (such perfect power sets!). He's been stalled at level 36 for over a year, partly because villain-side is quite slow on my server.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I have a fire/fire blaster that was created during the first week this game existed and is my second oldest character that hasn't been deleted or remade by this point. She's level 24.

Magician was an Ice/Fire Blaster. He stalled in the 30s at some point (all of that melee is pretty awful for someone when they're new at the game), but when I got more experience with the game, I eventually pushed him to 50... And deleted him a short time later to remake him as a Fire/Storm Controller (who got to 50 and was one of my favorites, though he's been neglected as one of my characters who has yet to fully convert to IO sets).
Molecule Misfit was an Energy/Ice Blaster. /Ice, which is only good for Ice Patch, doesn't offer much of anything when you're constantly Energy Torrenting guys off of it. He also got to 50, but was later remade as an Ice/Energy Blaster (who got to 50 before I decided to rename him), and then his final and current incarnation as an Energy/Energy Blaster.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
Oh geez, more are coming back to me.
I deleted a level 50 Spine/Invuln Scrapper, John Leviathan, in a bad reaction to the big Defense/Invulnerability readjusting that I can't even remember anymore. I also needed more server space at the time, which is the real reason (before purchasable character slots were a reality). I liked him though.
I deleted a level 50 Peacebringer, Aeon Avenger, in another similar not quite happy + short on server space bid many years ago.
I deleted a level 34 Dark/Energy Aura Brute, Void Smasher, when I simply wasn't having much fun with the sets (again, pre-abundant server space). I regret it because it was a great concept, and the last time I checked to see if I could revive it, someone else was using the name. It would be great with the newest EA buffs.
Ugh. Regrets!
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I wouldn't say PvP is dead. Come to Freedom.
I have a stalled ill/storm controller. The chaos she generated was too much to still be considered polite. She's great for soloing, which I don't do.
I made a brand-new, shiny Katana/Stone brute. What a turd. Deleted.
But yeah, I do probably need to transfer some characters since it doesn't look like Infinity PvP will ever rise from the grave. Too bad I missed the server transfer sale.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I used to have a Sonic/Elec Blaster that I loathed. He was at level 40-something before he got deleted. I'm not sure what I even hated really, 'cause I enjoy Sonic, and Elec seems like it COULD be enjoyable, though that's the only time I ever tried it.
I also used to have an Elec/Dark Brute whose concept I loved (recolored DA to look like cloud armor... he was my Storm Summoning Brute.) I deleted it before I gave it a chance to really flesh out (like 30 or something) and I've been itching to remake him.
Wild Streak - Lv. 50(+3) Beast Mastery/Sonic Resonance Mastermind, Amnesty - Lv. 50 Staff Fighting/Dark Armor Stalker
/Elec is my favorite secondary for blasters. /Energy has more tools, but I don't value them as highly as I do those in /Elec (though most will probably tell you that /Energy is still the way to go).
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I've also given up on a ton of stalkers. Claws/Ninjitsu had no AoE. Elec/Energy had great AoE, but EA sucked back then. Elec/Regen was fun but I was too annoyed by the low HP cap that also made it weak. Ninja Blade/Dark Armor was powerful, but the area damage just was not enough. I've got a Spines/Dark now that's still low level. This one should be a keeper.
I just recently threw out a SS/WP character that I just could not enjoy.
Where to now?

For me it's my Ill/Emp and she made it to 50 level. At the time I created her she was a blast to play... TFs loved having her along to stealth/tp, she could solo easily and did so all the way to 50 and when the AT was still popular finding a team was as easy as logging on. Now however she just doesn't seem to have that many good attack .. compared to my Plant/Rad .. and with incarnated TANKS running around with the ability to heal 750 points of damage or BUFF an entire league she just seems to be along for the ride. I now have 17 characters in the incarnate system and she is the only one that has yet to get more than one level shift. I have so much fun playing the others I just can't bring myself to play her anymore.

From reading what you wrote, the following stands out:
- You spend a lot of time investing into character theme, concept and backstory. Costume is also very important for you.
- You keep abandoning characters, and it often (not always) seems to be for mechanical/play based reasons (excluding the VEATs, who are high performers).
- You don't seem to like support sets that are support intensive (read: buff/heal focused).
My advice would be to let the concept portion of the character be more flexible and to wrap it around powersets that work together very well.
In essence you need a more balance approach when picking both your concept attributes as well as the mechanical side (powersets).
One good example is your Fire/Storm Controller (who you really liked) - Fire/Storm is a strong combination mechanically and also is not a support (buff) heavy powerset (instead you debuff and then kill stuff)
I would suggest for "support ATs" you stick to Controllers and also add some more Corrs and stick to secondaries like Storm, Dark, Rad and maybe even Time.
For other ATs, well only you know your preferred playstyle - just be sure to pick combinations that have a solid to very high level of performance.
My first, second and third Peacebringer. But with the recent changes, the fourth is actually taking root.
I've also given up on a ton of stalkers. Claws/Ninjitsu had no AoE. Elec/Energy had great AoE, but EA sucked back then. I have 30 characters, with about 5 of them in single digits and 14 or 15 level 50s in the mix (not to mention the characters who were deleted either at 50 or prior). These days I wish I had just stuck with a handful that I really enjoyed.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I gave up on my first peacebringer, but my second seemed much better
My TA/sonic defender seemed like a good concept, but it peels off sooooo much aggro and dies quickly, never made it to level 30.
My Bots/TA is love/hate. I HATE investing so heavily in Repair and the Medicine pool. On, the other hand, it does tankermind better than some )
Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
That's another! Robo/Traps, my only Mastermind. Great concept, but Masterminds are just too hands off. He wasn't so great to play, but I kept at it, and that was during when most Masterminds were still expected to "tank" for their teams.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
Well, I've an Ill/Emp I rolled up in issue 3 that I've never been very happy with... I rolled him in week 2 of playing because "everyone wants a healer". Don't laugh, many of you thought much the same when you started out... and back then most of the playerbase hadn't really figured out just how much debuffs and buffs completely trivialize simple healing. I know Emp has some tasty buffs but I just couldn't get with the playstyle. The only things saving him from deletion are his level and the fact that I haven't needed his slot. Last time we had free transfers I moved him somewhere else and haven't looked for him again.
I never really liked the character, so he stalled for a couple years in the low 20's, then my SG mates were running characters in that range and since he was my only char at that level I ran him up into the mid-30's where he still sits to this day.
I've a Kin/Rad defender who's been stuck at 36 for the last 4 years now; a Rad/Sonic defender on another server sitting at around 34 and a number of scattered alts ranging from the early teens to the mid-20's who've moved into the "maybe someday I'll play them" category.
I have one 50, my Stone/Energy tanker, who's currently in the permanently retired category... prior to the /EM changes she was a very marginal character, now that the only two decent attacks BOTH take forever to animate I see few redeeming qualities there.
COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
Thanks for the advice, and I do - My preference is Blasters, followed by (non-support Intensive) Controllers, then Brutes, then Scrappers, and my character choices reflect that.

If you haven't already, you might try a Fire/Dark Corrupter.
Pretty concept friendly (I went for Magic Origin), very strong mechanically and it has both Blaster (Fire Blast) and Controller (Dark Miasma has great soft controls) elements.
It requires no buffing at all, your heal is an incredible PBAoE heal that also debuffs the enemy, as well as your "rez" being an auto-hit stun with -500% regen attached to it.
It is both solo and team friendly, has great performance out of the gate and great performance at L50.
You will have all of your core attacks and core dark powers by L20.
I'm kind of tired of my Inv/SS Tanker. Very survivable, but the offense is so unbelievably bad that I have difficulty playing it. The lack of damage soured me to the whole Tanker AT, in fact. I can get wholly adequate survivability out of Brutes or Scrappers with MUCH more offense, so why trade down? My Fire/Fire Tanker has a chance of sticking around, but I just can't get a build for it that I'm happy with.
It probably doesn't help that I made the Inv/SS build before I knew what I was doing, so he can't handle really high level non-S/L opponents.
Super Strength. On all ATs with any possible pairing. Made, played and deleted 7 including getting into the 40s twice. Loathe the set. the animations, the slow powers and most of all rage mechanics and the -damage.
Regeneration. I have one. Never again. The set itself is fine, I just don't have the reflexes to benefit from it's strengths.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
I had a heck of a time with ill/rad, but a friend got me unstuck by pointing out that I can treat the set descriptions as pure flavor text. ... This had not occurred to me.
I tried to play a /regen and just couldn't get into it.
I stalled on my Dark/Pain Villain. She can't solo well. Red is quiet when I play, so she is in limbo.
My Widow...whom I love is frozen because I thought she would be allowed to have hero epic pools. But she cant, so she is stuck at 42 because I got her all the way to full hero and don't want to grind her back to rogue.
The rest of mine are 50, and currently I am determined to to level up my Energy/Poison Corr to 50...just so I know what true abuse feels like.
Ill/Sonic. At 50. Liked the concept and the character. *DESPISE* Illusion, especially paired with Sonic. Got to 50 solely because I was working on "One of each control set," and it was my highest. Moved to another server, currently gathering dust.
Bot/FF MM. One of my first MMs. Every once in a while I'll pull him out to mess with, so he's slowly crawled to the mid-upper 30s - but this is the pairing that nearly put me off Masterminds completely. (And, frankly, bubbling as an AOE makes him even MORE boring.)
My first two characters- A level 44 Energy/Kin Corruptor, and a level 50 Fire/Fire Scrapper. I can't even bring myself to use them for their auction slots anymore. /e cringe
Ninja/Trick Arrow mastermind. Just. Can't. Do. It.
I'm close to giving up on my Dark Blast/Pain Dom corruptor. It's a combination of "pure support" and the fact that Pain Dom doesn't really have the buffs that Empathy has.
Given up on or gotten tired of?
My Earth/Sonic controller, Gaia Guardian, was set to be a beast in Base Raids two years ago when I made her... Now that they've turned off the raids and most PvP is dead, I see no real reason to continue playing her. I don't really like how the two sets intermingle, nor how the operate together on a team. And soloing? Forget about soloing. Another big problem - She's the first female character I ever made, and... I don't know how to design female characters. So she ***** with her original, defaul costume, and nothing else, preventing me with developing much of a connection to her. She's one bar away from 48, after an ITF run last night, in which I quickly grabbed her to play, hoping to get to 47 for a respec (in which I'll tear any IOs out and replace with regular SOs).
My Plant/Thermal Controller, Venus Devine (with an explanation in her info about how it's a wordplay combination for "of the Vine" and "divine," because it's been commented on a bit too much), was the second female character I ever made, and is similarly stalled at level 40. I've never been a purely support guy, and this was my attempt at a nearly full support character (Vines and Seeds of Confusion are great for this). It hasn't gone well, and she suffers from the same costume issue as the other one, except she has some facsimiles of Spider-Woman and Ms. Marvel's costumes because I was curious one day.
Maybe someone can suggest costume ideas for my neglected ladies.
My Gravity/Energy Dominator, Gravity Theory. He's a mad scientist type out to disprove Gravity! He would be great fun and have plenty of costumes and character-development... If I could get into Dominators at all. He's the first and only Dom I've ever made, and he's stalled out at level 23. Maybe one day with whatever Dominator change that has been hinted at for a while now.
My Arachnos Soldier, Spider Sentinel. No real theme (which tends to be a deal breaker for whether I continue to play a character or not); I play as a Bane Spider when solo (which isn't often, because I think Banes aren't very good), and a Crab Spider when teamed (which isn't all that often considering what little time the character gets). I also made the mistake of Going Rogue with him, only to have to delay my Hero-allignment mission so I could get dumb patron power pool access.
What are some of your lost causes?
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
