Instead, the devs will increase the load on other servers by spawning various events. That would be cool and all if I had characters on other servers. I've been on one server since I started this game and it's frustrating to not be able to play my characters.

Get your friends, form a branch SG somewhere, screw around with it once in a while - then if something happens on Freedom, you have somewhere to fall back to. Start a superteam.
Give yourself options.
What really keeps you from branching out JUST for stuff like that? Especially now when inf, items, etc. can be emailed to yourself?

Must be due to that high post count.
Or you being a Dev Sycophant.
Bah, more crazy talk.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Isn't it strange that you seem incapable of seeing someone else's point of view?
Because it rarely happens and my play time is limited. I seriously play 7 -10 hours a week. If that. I have 20+ alts on Freedom that I want to play. Not to mention I have no resources on other servers. Why should I HAVE to start alts on other servers? Seems like an excuse.
|
No alt on other server: YOu not playing now.
As for "No resources?" You can email yourself stuff. Doesn't mean you have to jump ship and play only that new alt. It's an *option.*

I have a few characters on other servers besides Justice. They don't get played. When Justice is down, as it is now, I generally find other things to do. If I really want to play badly enough, I do have options on those other servers.
The last time I really wanted to play that badly? Hasn't happened yet. So I understand wanting to play your normal characters with your normal friends. I also understand that there are options.
In the meantime, I can poke good-natured fun at Bill's posts and be pretty confident that he knows it's my normal sarcasm at work filling the downtime. There are several other forum regulars I'd feel comfortable goofing around in the same way with and be fairly sure they know it's all just normal TJ sarcasm.

Re: making characters on other servers... I've been exclusive to Justice. It's home. I mean, I've tried starting characters on other servers, but even though the maps look the same, they feel different. Like, "When I was here, I could tell you the speed we were travelling by the feel of the deckplates." Maybe there are latency quirks to Justice or something that I'm just used to. Or maybe I'm being silly and sentimental.
On that note, it would be scary if anyone could tell what server they were on just by, for example, looking at a netgraph. Anyone..?
You know, I was actually thinking about this earlier today when checking in on the uStream and reading a couple comments in another thread where another subscriber was asking for $$$ reimbursement or extension of their monthly sub schedule to cover the server outages. Utilities do this, including phone and television.
So that got me wondering if a gifting of points wouldn't be adequate compensation for the subscriber base in cases of extraordinary outages. Doing the math (and not counting any bulk discounts for subscriptions or point purchases), at $15 a month, we each spend roughly $.50 to have access on any given day. And Paragon Points have a purchase rate of roughly 800 per $10. In that case, 40 points/day of outage would be pretty close to a 1:1 reimbursement. Considering that in this 24 hour period, the extended maintenance was announced in advance and shouldn't be counted, the EST afternoon outage lasted about 3-4 hours with Freedom being down well into the night. So being generous, say 8 hours? Given the 1:1 reimbursement, then 13 or so points for all players with characters on Freedom and 6 or 7 Paragon Points to everyone else.
Of course, Paragon Studios could in such future cases, decide to be generous and give out a nice round number, especially considering that this outage happened during prime play time for many EU players. So in conclusion:
Hows about 20 Paragon Points for all active subscribers (worth roughly $.25 USD) and we call it even? And before you sneer at 20 points, remember that gets you half way towards purchasing one of those party pack emotes!

I cannot email myself resources if the server is down. If the server is not down, then emailing resources to another alt is pointless.
I have been intentionally steering clear of the Beta server for the most part. The exception is if I am trying to test something specific to see how it will work under Freedom. The reason for this, is that I want Freedom to still be new and Fresh to me when it goes live (plus I don't really see the point in building up a toon now, and then starting that same toon over again on Live when it launches).
I, however, have been taking advantage of the times when the live servers are down to jump over to Beta and either test stuff or just poke around to see what the future holds.

I don't want to play a level 1 character. I have many 50s, I would like to continue outfitting them with IOs.

Server beign down for an hour, you'd probably be in the early teens. Still down? Run a posi. Mid teens. Look, progress. And you're doing what you (i assume) want to do - play the game.
And you can email yourself resources 8when the servers are back up* if you are worried about lack of INF, etc.
Then when your main server is back up -you can switch back over.
I don't see what's so abhorrent about the concept of *being able to play the game you want to play if your main server is down.*
Hey...
Sometimes things go wrong!
Don't be too upset when it is just a few servers down for a day...

Any "disaster" I can completely and totally miss by skipping on a few hours of gameplay probably isn't a big enough deal to merit fifteen threads about it.

I see it as a demonstration to many other players what I, in an East Asian timezone, occasionally have to put up with.

Funny how, now that it's the other way around, they are the wrongful aggrieved and we are Dev apologist boot-lickers

Yesterday's maintenance for me was 2 PM to 8 PM. Considering I got home from work early at around 2:05 PM, that was essentially my entire day. For that entire day, I played Human Revolution, instead.

I played Minecraft and lol'd at the forums

Ditto Europe. When we had maintenance and downtime in the past, often slap bang in the middle of Prime Time, we were often told by American Players "Suck it up" and "Deal with it".

If I can let people rant and complain while this downtime affects them, surely they can let me rant and complain while other downtimes affect me.
Sadly I don't quite have the disposable cash at the moment to buy HR, but I do have Chantelise, which I suppose means I'm in before the Talking About Other Video Games lock.

Try going for several days with no power or internet thanks to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene. We're more worried about how to feed ourselves, nonetheless game.
Loss of one day of game time seems trivial when you can't even get running water.
My 'eternal' thanks to National Grid power company for driving by our downed power lines three times in a row with their trucks and not fixing them or even slowing down to assess them. I'm sure they have power in their houses...
Now, back to our regularly scheduled server downtime discussion and player entitlement issues... (eats stale crackers in lieu of popcorn)
