That's pointless to me. I HATE being a lowbie and would rather not play. Do you understand?

That's great for someone who likes to level lowbie characters. I do not. I prefer outting my characters with gear. If I cannot access those characters, then I might as well not play.

Please understand not everyone wants to play the way you asking me to.

Obviously, you don't understand but I'm done trying to convince you or others. I understand you position but if you understood mine then you wouldn't make such suggestions about rolling a new toon.

Really? Do you just hit reply and not think about what you're posting? I very much understand what Bill is saying to me, but I don't agree and consider it an acceptable alternative.

Mostly, I just meant that I did "other things" while the game was unavailable. I know how much it sucks when you want to play a game but can't, but there really are other things to do for a day.

How about looking at this from the Dev/Support point of view; The servers were very clearly nertzed. Likely everyone was on hand to try and get the darn things back to working state ASAP, which likely takes a fair while when you;
1) Have to figure out what the hell was wrong in the first place
2) Get rid of the wrong-causing thing
3) Get a patch in to make everything work again
4) Get the servers down, patched and up again and make sure they STAY up

Oh, and 5) put up with people screaming about how horrible they are for something that is about as much their fault as...well, something they have little control over. Can you see the future in the machines? If so, I'm sure they'd love to hire you.

But, apparently, trying to be logical and reasonable about problems (And, yes, I WOULD have liked to go on last night too. But, strewth almighty, it's not the end of the bleeding world) is enough to get me labelled a boot and *** licker and Dev Apologist.

So, really, why should I bother with straight-faced replies to ingratiating little ****s with the common courtesy of pond-bilge, when I can have fun watching them rage instead?

Granted, having a Dr. appt. in the morning then helping babysit my bro's kids then going to work and not getting back till 11pm (EDT) then going to bed...soo...no worries about servers going down for me

Sometimes it is nice to work the 2nd shift.

To be fair, Tech, that kind of stamp-out attitude tends to trod on actual legitimate arguments as a matter of course, and that really helps no-one, but to create even more animosity. The argument that if one server goes down, you can just play on another only works for a certain type of player, that is one who is just fine swapping between characters. This isn't the case for all of us. I grew up on single-character games and RPGs that, though they offered multiple characters, really emphasised you playing just one for the most part. When that one character I had in mind to play is unavailable or, worse still, becomes corrupted or turns out to be broken... There isn't much else left to do.

Now, I'm not saying asking for compensation for stupid things is justified. It isn't. These days, people will seemingly ask for compensation from the weather forecast if the sky was a bit too cloudy. However, not all complaints are completely and utterly devoid of reason and not all of them should be should be shot down with reckless abandon and total disregard. Even if people don't always react to problems in a constructive way, some problems really do exist.

I'm not disputing that, not in the slightest. I often find myself in the same boat; it depends very heavily on what mood and mindset I am in when it comes to picking characters. If I'm not in the right frame of mind, I often find myself simply logging off and finding something else to do.

However, that is all kind of moot when servers are down. There's not much you CAN do other than find something to do. And that's no one's fault, really. It's when people come on harping on like the Devs are specifically going out of their way to hassle them (and only them, not anyone else. Their inconvenience and annoyance is of course paltry to the primary complainant ) that I break out the sarcasm because, honestly, it'll be fixed when it's fixed.

Damned either way; if the servers are up and buggy there will be whining, and if they're down to be fixed there is whining. C'est la vie.



(Oh, and when people start off-handedly insulting me, my intelligence and my life, despite not even living on the same continent as me, let alone country, despite not knowing me at all and yet somehow apparently having interior knowledge that even I don't have about myself. Really, there is no 'right' or 'logical' answer to such guff )

ditto, and finished it off after playing it most of the week. i loved it but much prefer the original

If you are a technician who works on servers and networks you know how you are viewed and don't care.

If something drops - the users say - why didn't you have a backup system in place. Nevermind that they refuse to pay extra for said redundant system.

Once it's up it isn't a thank you for fixing it - it is a what took so long?

If you can't deal with it don't get a job in the career field. It is the essential - what have you done for me lately career field.
