Ninitsu Stalker, possible with the Weapons Mastery Epic, that's how else you get the ultility belt!

I have this crazy thing in my mind, about petless masterminds.
How would they work?
Soloing possible with a, lets say demon (Whip) Storm, Heat mastery?
Anyone got any experience with this weird thing?
Are they worth it to try and level?
Thank you!
Just for pancakes and giggles I got one up to level 22 once. People will talk to you like your unbalanced when they realize what you are doing.

Please show me the whip set for Corruptors and I will gladly concur. Corruptors are my favorite AT.

We've been over this and over this. If you want the devs to throw you the whip, you have to throw them the idol first.

I'd rather make a Corruptor.

But if you think you can convince them to make a Whip Blast set, go ahead. I know I'd play it.

I would too!!

But until they make that set....

I think Hellfire Whip is more likely to surface as a melee set than ranged.

I'm not sure why you'd say that. The attacks that exist right now are ranged. Why would they change that when they make a full set?

Apart from the tier-1 one, they're pretty short-ranged. If they were going to keep that design concept for the rest of them, they'd have to decide whether they wanted to set to be a strangely short-ranged blaster set (and have people complaining about how gimpy it is) or an unusually long-ranged scrapper set (and have people complaining that scrappers aren't supposed to be ranged at all). Six of one... (shrug)

Kind of reminds me of back when the dual pistol set didn't exist, and people occasionally proposed that if such a thing be created, it should have really short ranges and be pitched as a scrapper set with a difference.

It sounds like you haven't taken a look at the attacks in the Demon Summoning powerset.

Corruption is a true ranged attack at 80 feet. You basically launch a blob of fire off of the whip and at an enemy. You could toss this in as a simple ranged attack in a melee set a la Impale, Focus or Hurl.

Lash (which has this icon: and accepts these IO set categories: Melee Damage, Knockback) is definitely not "ranged." The range of the power is 20 feet, which is farther than any other melee attack (even more than that freak of nature Knockout Blow, which weighs in at 13.20 feet), but still drastically short of anything you'd consider "ranged."

Crack Whip is a cone attack with a 30 foot range, and you can't enhance the range. Typical cone attacks from Blast sets (Buckshot, Frost Breath, Fistful of Arrows) are 40 feet and CAN be enhanced, so this power isn't on the level of Blast powersets either. You could say it's like Lash but some of the fire falls off in the process as in Corruption.

Because a Whip is a MELEE WEAPON!

If we can't have Dual Pistols as a Melee Set for gun fu fighting action (a comic book staple) why would we have a MELEE WEAPON set as a Ranged Weapon set?

A full whip set would actually work best as an "Assault" set, IMO. You know, the ones that doms have that have both melee *and* ranged attacks.

And if you really want to play a petless MM, just play a Defender or Corr. They're the exact same thing without the gimped power selection/values/inherit you would have with a petless MM, and they have more powersets to choose from!

It's not about the powers. It's about a Mastermind with no pets.

People seem to forget that detail a lot. Is there something I don't know about psychology?

It's possible, but it takes a lot of work.

I would reccomend making an alternate pet build, just in case. Try them both, and see what you prefer.

Hellfire Whip is better than most MM weapons, but without your demons, you need friends to make good use of it. Look into stealth. Use a secondary that boosts your survival. (I reccomend Dark Miasma). And don't take pancake from anyone. This can work, but only if you make it work.

That's in the same "wait, what? are you just doing it wrong out of utter contrariness?" camp as Blasters who don't shoot and Defenders who don't buff. It's like saying your lifelong ambition is to own a car that can't move. At least the people who made Thugs MMs before Dual Pistols because they wanted pistols made a certain kind of sense - doing it specifically because you want to play the archetype inappropriately is just masochism, and this is a T-rated game, yo.

Yea, I'm sure you could also play the game effectively while sitting naked on a George Foreman grill in repeatedly stabbing yourself in the eye with a spork, but that doesn't behoove anyone on the forum to tell you it's a good idea.

How in any way is killing an EB impressive? You have an incarnated out petless MM who killed an EB. I just soloed Arch Villain Siege today. Comparatively speaking a petless MM sucks against the competition. The worst part is that you were /Poison who is specifically designed to kill STs. Just think of how much faster that could have been done using pets.

For those watching at home, note how this post inexplicably ignores my previous post and the topic of the thread at large. I honestly can't, for the life of me, figure out how this works.

Because for some people, "OTHER PEOPLE ARE DOING IT WRONG!!!!" apparently causes them actual physical pain. Seems to be anyway, from the vehemence with which they berate those folks.

My theory is that the whip attacks in Demon Summoning were created solely to prevent the petless MM from becoming extinct as a result of Dual Pistols.

I'm going to have to go on record here as doubting that.

I picked it for the Toxic DoT and -Res, but yeah, my next up-and-coming petless happens to be Demons. (-:

I guess it's Hellfire Whip, not Demons. And Trick Arrow.
