Petless Masterminds. Possible? Worth it?

I have this crazy thing in my mind, about petless masterminds.
How would they work?
Soloing possible with a, lets say demon (Whip) Storm, Heat mastery?
Anyone got any experience with this weird thing?
Are they worth it to try and level?
Thank you!

It is possible.. as Memphis Bill mentioned there were a number of them around after Thugs MM arrived but there are some serious drawback to going petless...

1. A Mastermind doesn't have a whole lot of HP and aside from pool powers you may grab no defense at all. Your defense is you pets.. they share any damage you take helping you live longer and they aggro so most mobs go after them and ignore you.

2. You said you wanted DPS or liked it.. well MMs do have a good bit of DPS but the majority of that comes from . THE PETS. You normally get a grand total of three (3) attacks that you can use that are not related to your pets.. so your back to the pool powers again trying to grab up stuff like flurry, or jump kick to add to your damage potential.

Now I have seen MMs that went just the other way.. Had all their pets but ignored the personal attacks and took other pool powers to increase their benefit as a bufffer/defuffer/healer. The medicine Pool allows a heal and a rez, leadership allows a buff to defense and to accuracy, Recall friend coupled with the Invisibility pool can turn you into the stealther on a team (if you deactivate the pets of course LOL).

You can do anything you like but a petless MM just seems very gimped to me.. I have several at 50 level and in most cases I let the pets worry about damage while I am busy buffing or debuffing. Seems to work much better that way if I am on a team or soloing.

Did I summon Dechs by mentioning warshades?

I'm going to have to be more careful.

You be a Gimp if you don't take any pets, The Pets does most of the damage, don't think anyone will invite you on a team with out your pets. The Whip itself in the power set was made to go along with the pets, you need them both to do alot of damage. Without you pets Support you have alot of Aggro on you and alot less damage, like I said you be a Gimp.

And this was done on a AE map, let see you Handle the real thing, The ITF Version. Then again I don't think you be able to find a team having only a couple of Attack and the epic pool.

Also you have Incarnate Powers, Epic Pool and I notice you took all your Debuff and buff which have saved you butt and not the MM Attacks Set.

Play the Power set right Folk, I would like too see a Whip Power Set or Mm Sets that Does not use Pets Set and other stuff too but be Patience we will see it in time.

I will not build a Tanker without any toggles or Resist buff, taunt and taunt Aura, because they where design too hold Aggro and suppose be like that. MM are design around there Pets and they are Suppose to be played with there Pets.

No I didn't read your Petless MM "rules" because I saw the post of what clearly you think is a Petless MM being impressive and just decided right there to jump into the fray.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it worth it? If you want to be different just to be different and it makes you happy sure.

If you want to do anything in this game faster or better, than no. Petless MMs are gimped beyond gimping.

Isn't that the topic at large?

That's the topic at large.

That isn't. It's also not necessarily correct, since a petless Mastermind can be made to perform adequately in the grand scheme of things.

I think you're right, Feycat. This guy's squirming so much he had to double-post.

GreenFIame, as one who has gone out and done it rather than conjecture from the comfort of the forums, I've never had any problems getting on teams with my petless Mastermind; even before it got slotted up. You're grasping at straws.

I sure as heck wouldn't invite you to a team and I can also assure you that a petless MM cannot compare to a MM with pets all else being the same.

You have a what Demons/Poison?

You want to do some tests against a REAL Demon/Poison and see who can accomplish more and in x amount of time?

I'm not saying "o hey, don't try a petless MM because it's something you just think would be 'neato'". just don't act like they are not in any way shape or form severely gimped, because they are.

Experimenting is fun, but usually people act on the results and ditch the stuff that doesn't work or isn't as effective.

I guess it's Hellfire Whip, not Demons. And Trick Arrow.
I gotta know how you took this shot! <3

Pretty much sums up my feelings exactly.

If you want to play a petless MM, fine. Just don't try to pretend they compare favorably in any way whatsoever to a real MM (Or any other AT in the game, for that matter.)

Also, pfhahahahah oh wow at that guy who thinks soloing an EB (At 50, with incarnates no less.) is somehow impressive.

The process is documented in this thread, as well as how I made this one:

Oh, yes, Damage Procs are a good idea.

For lower levels, if you preordered Going Rogue at Gamestop, there are special enhancements you can use from level 1. (They wear out at 20 ish?) I also believe that they're a t8 Paragon Reward.

Otherwise, grab some temp damage powers to boost your attack chain until you're comfortable.
