Weakest AT/powersets

The Tank Mages thread got me thinking...

From that thread:

Toons of all ATs get a lot of toys with the incarnate powers such as pets, AoEs and buffs. This makes all ATs increasingly similar as everyone can do everything.

I started thinking it might be a fun challenge to create a normally considered "weak" toon and pimp it to the max with IOs and incarnate powers.

What AT/powersets are most gimp? I'm thinking maybe:

* MA/Regen stalker (heh, my first 50 )
* PB
* Something with terrible redraw... maybe TA/Pistols?
* ...

Any ideas?

Petless Masterminds. Even then, I managed to solo an elite boss on mine in the mid-teens...

There really is just about nothing in this game that is entirely unplayable. Sure, there's a lot of variations in effectiveness (depending on what you're looking for as 'effective', or course.)

I have a feeling that I'd be interested in trying out a lot of things that could be suggested in this thread. The first three suggestions all made me think, "That doesn't sounds so bad..."

Proud member of Everyday Heroes (Infinity Heroes), Dream Stalkers (Infinity Villains), Devil Never Cry (Freedom Heroes), Enclave of EVIL (Pinnacle Villains), Phobia (Infinity Villains), Les Enfant Terribles (Freedom Villains), Gravy Train (Virtue Heroes), and more!

Warshades are by no means at the pinnacle of uberness, but they aren't at the bottom either.
I'm more concerned about how building one just seems like acting in a Back to the Future movie (yea... it feels old, like some really old design).

As to answer the OP's question, I'd toss in Psychic/Devices Blaster. While I have no idea how such of a combination would turn out, the two sets are generally considered on the lower end, if not the lowest among Blaster sets.

Peacebrigners are generally considered sub-par, or at least on a worst state than Warshades.

Stone/Stone Brute. Playing it without Granite armor (aka with a sh*t ton of toggles as well heavy endurance-using abilities; or how to murder a blue bar). Why without Granite? Because with it, there's less SMASH!

Most Stalker sets are considered below their Scrapper or Brute counterparts. Though I'm not much of an expert about Stalkers, some of them are by no means 'gimped'.

A few Masterminds primaries have issues... that should be addressed. For starters, Ninjas are defense based, but their defense is just so low, it makes you question if they actually have any.
And than there's the pet AI, which seems to have become better... for the newest set (Demons) only.

I sincerely think that one of the great thing about this game is that, unless you're going for a very specific goal, no matter what powerset or AT you choose, it's bound to be useful and have its own moments every now and then. Of course, some of them excel more 'easily' and frequently than others, but you get the point!

I don't really think warshades are bad. I was just trying to irritate Dechs a little bit. In my case warshades are just not my favorite brand of awesome.

Human Peacebringer
I seem to play a lot of "weak" builds. All the way to 50, at that. I also seem to enjoy them greatly, too. Though I will admit I don't care for my Controller much, but that has nothing to do with Grav/FF, and more to do with the AT. I just started to get into playing my Dominator. Much better.

I know Grav/FF is no Fire/Kin and Human PB is no Tri-Form Warshade and it would be nice if all the ATs were closer to each other in performance capabilities, but whenever one of these pops up, I'm always amused by what people think are unplayable. (Note: I know nobody here said these were "unplayable", but it's usually just a matter of time before someone does)

Super Reflexes on a concept character that isn't softcapped.

(I'll let you know if I feel the same way once I've softcapped him using an amazing build from the nice people in the Scrapper forums.)

Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

I know you mentioned something similar to this, but I want to make sure its obvious:

Peacebringers are not weak. They can complete any single player mission in the game and they can meaningfully contribute to any team for any and all content.

Peacebringers are, however, relatively weak. They are only weak when compared to the capabilities of just about anyone else.

Well, I have created a PB but I don't think I will limit myself to human form. Now it only remains to see if I can bring myself to level it up to 50 and through the incarnate grind.

Mist, my own older PB, is human-primary and I tend to play him as sort-of an energy Scrap. At this point, he's a full Incarnate... Three slots at T3, two at T4. It wasn't all that difficult to do.

I honestly found the trials to be a lot of fun with him, since the level/composition of the spawns cut down on his KB a lot of the time. The Lambda warehouse is also one of the few places I've used Dwarf regularly. Mist has acted as his teams "tank" in there a number of times and did pretty well with it.

So, yeah. Do have a go at it. The Incarnate thing is perfectly do-able with a PB and Clarion Destiny is well worth the time investment. Polar Light Lore pets are also a lot of fun and a good FX match for our aliens.

You can take any other controller primary and secondary and get it done better. I know. I've done it.

I would think so. Resist buffs are a lot more rare than defense and Sonic has debuffs instead of being a pure buff set so overall it's more useful than FF. FF is better if you need a lot of defense and don't have many defense buffs from other team members, but on most teams a Sonic will add more to the team than a FF will.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

Sonic is a very poor solo set, possibly the worse buff/debuff set for soloing. On a Controller in general, its helped by having a pet to place Disruption Field on, but not for Gravity.

Singularity with Disruption Field looks wonderful as a representation of the planet Saturn, but doesn't really work in practice

Ha! This is one of the more funny forum comments I have read in a long time. I just had to say that it made me laugh.

Oh, and <3 singy.

"Hi, my name is Ail. I make people sick."
A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator

Yes even solo. Sonic Siphon > Force Bolt and Liquefy is way better than Force Bubble as a tier 9. Repulsion Bomb doesn't really make up the difference.
