Eh. I haven't been able to motivate myself to get book 4. Found the series thoroughly depressing by the end of book 3, TBH.

Probably get back to it in a year or so.

I'll wait until it's completely out. I would rather read straight through versus having to go back and try to remember what happened since the last book came out.

I'm currently re-reading book 4. I thought I'd have all the books read once Dance started, but forgot exactly how much there is to digest! But, book 5 was delivered to my Kindle last night in preparation!

I barely finished book 1 because of this. Life tends to be depressing enough w/o dedicating my leisure time to the same.

What a shame you didn't stick with it. Book 2 is all rainbows and unicorns and in Book 3 everyone gets a puppy! Your loss I guess.

Not even tempting, the rest of my friends read them.

I have to admit I also prefer High Fantasy, and not this form of low fantasy.

He he. I normally prefer Tolkienesque stuff myself, but for some reason this series had me captured early. He has gotten a little long and wandered into too much stuff that is irrelevant (or is unnecessarily repeating relevant themes), but that seems to be the style of our times with fantasy novels. I do like that he is trying to bring it to a close, it shows that he knows he wandered a bit more than needed (or than he intended).

Got mine today. I'll probably give up some game time to read tonight.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Got my notification email that it had shipped, now the wait for it to arrive. Unfortunately I finished Book 4 about two months ago. Dang I read too fast sometimes.

Well good thing I didn't mention the soda pop fountain donated to the orphanage in Book 4 then.

Costco had piles of them laying around for $20 a pop yesterday.

I walked on past, and it wasn't that hard.

The author's cavalier attitude towards meeting deadlines has turned me off. I can give my money to other, just as competent, authors, who know episodic fiction has to occur on a regular basis.

Or who care.

Funny how fast he managed to finish this once HBO started breathing down his neck, wasn't it?

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

I am only going to point out that his reasons for doing this was that "A Feast For Crows" was HUGE and the publisher screamed about it and said cut it in two. Unlike "A Storm of Swords" which had a nice break point in the middle (this from GRRM at AussieCon4), "A Feast For Crows" didn't and the more he tried to rewrite it the more drawn out the process became. Yes we have had to wait a long time and I have been incredibly worried it would never finish. In the publishing world these things happen.

I will close with a quote from Neil Gaiman "GRRM is not your b****h!" and my own feelings on the matter I will wait for a work that is good rather than one that is just thrown together to make deadline(read through a couple of those, turned me off that particular author permanently).

BTW at AussieCon4 when we got the sneak peak about the HBO Series they had 1 season= 1 book set up so they would have 3 YEARS before they would even have to start worrying about "A Dance With Dragons".

If we still could I'd +rep you for that post.

... I read that as "A feast for cows." Not quite the same impact with that imagery.
