Well, we were kinda just moving along and killing as we went. I got a fair few shards.
Fiery Aura? Really? Other than fire res capped, what else does it do? I have a Firey Aura/ Electric Melee tank, and he is decent at trials and TFs, but I certainly wouldn't ask him to pull Nightstar, you know?
DM/Invuln or DM/SD
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I have no problem pulling NS on my SS/FA... well maybe a little
Firstly I'll give ya a useful tip. Pull Rommy away from the nictus and fight him. I'm not an expert at this, so maybe someone else can help you with this, but it's much easier than fighting the nictus one at a time. Once you pull him away you just have to defeat him, then hide while he rezzes, then beat him down again.
There's a good argument for /FA with all of it's extra damage, but that set can get slaughtered by Romans. I mean, if you're gonna make the ideal Brute for the ITF, I'd go for something with lots of +HP and a ton of S/L protection. On top of that you need a lot of protection from NE damage and good resistance to defense debuffs.
You could technically build a /FA brute for high S/L defense and take and slot tough to get some good layered protection to S/L, but at that point you're spending an assload of money and you're still not going to be as sturdy as an equally budgeted /SD or /Invuln. Also, personally if I was gonna put that much money into an /FA I'd put it all into recharge.
I'm gonna second the /SD or /Invuln suggestion. Either set can give you capped defense to anything they would throw at you. They can both increase their HP, and Invuln can even reach capped HP. That'll help out a lot against the auto-hit nictus if you end up fighting it.
There was once a thread where someone Soloed the RSF with a ss/fire brute, now who was that again?

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?
Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
SS/FA is definitely the perfect brute.
Oops, I forgot saying "for the ITF". Or did I? Dun dun dunnnn...
SS/Inv is a solid choice for the ITF if you prefer survivability that doesn't rely on insps. I've done dozens of ITF on invul and genuinely can't remember the last time I died. If you go that route, you might as well go DM/Inv and forget about even having to watch your computer during the AV fights with Siphon Life on auto.

I think the answer is more towards any brute as long as you are looking at IOs and Incarnate options. If a /fire brute being the squishiest can pull of soloing TFs, then I think any other secondary works as well.
I have soloed ITF in around an hour on my SS/FA brute. Took Romi and all the Nictai at the same time n had no real problems.
I don't solo the ITF with this character (or any others, for that matter) but my Inv/SS Tanker has been very solid against Nictus negative energy and Roman defense debuffs once I built some excess defense into him. The 50% defense debuff resistance (DDR) of Inv slows the debuffing enough that my excess defense absorbs the debuffs and recovers as they wear off (they're of short duration).
I have 50% s/l/e/n defense with one target in range, 5% over the soft cap, but of course that goes up with more enemies present. That plus 90% s/l resistance and around 30% e/n resistance makes him really durable.
Brutes get the same 50% DDR as Tankers, according to City of Data, so it should be possible to make a pretty hardy Inv Brute for the ITF.

Brute SS/Inv
Brute Dark/FA
I could make a SS/FA Brute like many of you obviously have done. But, ALL of you have one. If I had all the inf in the world to trick it out, then I would. But, I am going to get it to 50, get it slotted, get it through a dozen or so trials for the incarnate stuff, and then I am going to run a duo ITF. Those solo builds look INSANELY expensive and I will have, at most, 500 million to outfit it. So, no PvP, no purples, and hell things like Oblits and Reactive Armor and Kinetic Combats will probably get rationed a bit (plus LotGs and other stuff).
I did say THE perfect Brute... Most of you suggest that to be a SS/FA one, and had I the 6-8 billion I think it would require (or the merits), I'd go there.
My fire/Elec tank does the ITF well, and he's got capped fire res, a hair under 70% S/L res, but like 40% energy and 45% negative energy res and then he is one small purple insp from the softcap. I've also not finished tricking HIM out... another 5 billion and he'll be just where I want him.

Ive duo'd this with my electric electric brute and a friend on his Ice/Dark tank. Took us about 35 mins to kill Rom (using every temp power we could throw at him and a vanguard heavy). The rest of the ITF was fairly easy.

Its not a cheap build by any means but it isn't super expensive either - my only purple is an Armageddon fire damage proc and that was a lucky drop, I picked up all the LoTG +recharges and other unique IO's with alignment merits. The really expensive stuff is the kinetic combat IO's - and I ended up buying a bunch of those with alingment merits as well, the triples tend to cost as much as an LoTG +recharge does on the market.

Now, i wont be posting my build but this is a cheap one is slapped together pretty quickly. I could see it doing a solo ITF if insp are used an iPower are gotten (this one would need cardiac pretty bad) not sure about 40min or an MO though.

This is Electric Briquette- My Fire/Elec tank. I don't have THIS kind of money to spend on another build unless I strip several other toons, but he's got decent everything... However, I am not sure a tank has the damage output necessary to wear down the Nictii (or Rommie while getting pelted BY said Nictii)

Softcapped smash/lethal defense and knowing when to hop out to let the debuffs wear off will get you a long way on the ITF regardless of AT.
Annihilating entire spawns in seconds will get you the rest of the way.
I'll post my SS/Fire. It sucks compared to most of these other 'gods' but it has no problem at all running off and soloing the towers after Rommie is down.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I pose a question:
What is THE "best" Brute for an Imperious Task Force?
I ask because a few days ago a buddy of mine and I did a duo ITF on Virtue (see the server thread for the neato screen cap), and we were thinking about doing another, this time on Freedom.
He had a Martial Arts/Willpower Scrapper and I had an Electric Melee/Shield Defense Scrapper. I had incarnate powers but he did not.
In order to do it, we had to kill the Nictii one at a time and then attack Rommie. We did the rest of the Traitors last.
Anyway, we had to eat orange and red insps to cap resists (the Mire on those Nictii is auto-hit so my 'great defense' was for nothing), and that got me to thinking after the fact...
What other duo combo could achieve the same, or better results. He's going with another scrapper, and again Willpower, but this time Dark Melee.
I want to make a Brute that will have high resist against S/L and E/NE plus the damage output necessary to compensate for the slightly lower damage output from the dark versus the martial arts.
I was thinking SuperStrength/Invulnerability, but I am not sure.
What do the mighty Brutes here think?
