Discussion: Freedom Fridays on Facebook!
I'm still surprised more people are not concerned that all of the non-VIP tier 9 rewards can only be taken on one character (although you could take it multiple times on the same character). Then again, I guess that only affects Premium players as VIPs would just choose from the VIP Tier 9 list.
I guess the true reward for Tier 9 VIP players is playing the game for free, which is a pretty huge reward really.
For those asking about Reward Tokens and multimonth subscriptions: As of now, the current plan is for you to receive all of your TOKENS up front however your PARAGON POINTS will be doled out each month on your billing cycle.
Should this change we'll let you know. |
Okay, let me get this straight in my head... You don't believe forum posters with reputations that they can be trusted to provide accurate information. The same posters backing up their statements with multiple official references. Yet you expect people to listen to you? The amount of chutzpah (and not in a good way) in your post is astounding.

I say just ignore him. To me, his behavior to the responses to his inquiry are pretty good indication of what he's going to be like on the forums.

However, this is the full system, but the tokens never stop coming - so you can re-select the consumable rewards

As I recall, the VIP part of Tier 9 is auto-awarded, but I could be mistaken.

You are correct about the Tier 9 consumeable rewards, though... the five slots just below the top three are repeatable as many times as you have extra tokens.
However, keep in mind that the T9 VIP rewards will cycle out over time, so it's probably not a good idea to spend ALL your tokens on the repeatable consumeable rewards...

My favorite is not believing Positron - while he is no longer Lead Developer, he is still one of the games leading developers.

I highly suspect that you will probably get all the tokens up to your next pay date once Freedom launches, but their verbiage has been a bit confusing on this matter.
As Z's post last night shows, your regular stipend of Paragon Points will continue to be awarded once per month on the anniversary of your bill date.

VIP players are paying subscribers, not playing for free. Premium players aren't paying the monthly fee.
As to the one-shot nature of the non-vip tier 9 rewards, I'm guessing they'll be in the 800-1,200 Paragon Points range from the market, which is nothing to gripe about.

Actually, I think he IS Lead Developer again, with War Witch being the "Strike Team Leader," according to the Prezi online presentation they uploaded for us earlier this week.

What I wonder is - say Freedom goes live on the first. My bill date is the 15. So I get a token for the partial month?

Q. You mentioned rotating Tier 9 VIP rewards. Does this mean things like the Celestial Costume Packs will eventually ‘rotate’ to unavailability to make room for newer rewards? A. Tier 9 VIP rewards will rotate out, and new rewards will be added, however because these rewards are always rotating there will never be something that goes ‘unavailable’ for good. You’ll have another chance at getting it if you missed it. |
That's the question I wanted to see answered.
This could be bad (notice the stress on "could", as it's just speculation at this point).
Let's say you have to wait 1-3 years for something you love... and then you get there and it is not in the rotation.
I wonder how long of a cycle there will be.
I really didn't expect them to handle it that way for things such as Celestial Armor and whatever fantastically spiffy costume sets they put in there.
This just seems a bit like the old playschool teasing game of holding the carrot over someone's head and pulling it away as they reach for it.
I guess we'll just see how it goes.

I agree, I guess this is going to hinge on the rotation schedule they plan to use for the Tier 9 VIP rewards. I'm guessing the devs will probably want to shoot for something that creates this "I got to buy this now" feeling. Especially if the player doesn't have a reward token on hand and probably willing to buy 1200 Paragon Points to get one, but at the same time if a player misses the VIP Tier 9 they want. The rotation schedule isn't something that puts a player off and not want to participate or avoid the Paragon Rewards Program.

Freedom Friday's started! Today's topic is the Paragon Market, so if you have questions, come ask them on Facebook!
Here's part 1 of today's (08-05-2011) Freedom Friday Q and A, the topic was the Paragon Market
Q. What sort of frequency do Paragon plan to add items to the market to after Freedom's launch?
A. We'll have new items in the Paragon Market every week.
Q. When will it be free?
A. City of Heroes Freedom will launch later this year.
Q. Any word yet on buying points in bulk? Bonus points were mentioned as an idea for bulk purchases.
A. There will be bonus points for purchasing Paragon Points in bundles. At this time we are still determining the number of bonus points for higher bundle purchases.
Q. Any idea about the price of non-VIP archetypes (Trollers, MMs, VEATs)? Or a rough equivalent number of VIP months PP rewards (i.e. multiples of 400PP) needed?
A. We're not discussing those today. Also please keep in mind that any Paragon Point prices mentioned are subject to change.
Q. Any word on if/when a Lifetime Subscription will be launched? Paragon Points should be unaffected as you would just flag the account for auto-points on the anniversary of initial payment (much like the current 1, 3, 6, 12 month plans).
A. We have no current plans to offer a Lifetime Subscription.
Q. Will new costume sets put on the market be free for VIP players?
A. Like booster packs currently, there will be costume sets that VIPs will have the option of purchasing. Unlike booster packs currently, you'll also have the option of purchasing individual costume pieces, rather than a whole set.
Q. You confirmed yesterday that Paragon Points can be purchased from within the game. You were going to check on whether subscription time can also be purchased within the game? Any word... can sub time be purchased within the game?
A. You will be able to manage your VIP subscription from the In Game Browser.
Q. Will items such as server transfers and rename tokens be available for purchase using PPs or will they remain seperate credit-card purchases?
A. Server transfers and rename tokens will be purchasable with Paragon Points in the Paragon Market.
Q. Any word on if/when a Lifetime Subscription will be launched? Paragon Points should be unaffected as you would just flag the account for auto-points on the anniversary of initial payment (much like the current 1, 3, 6, 12 month plans).
A. We will still be offering all of the current multimonth payment options, as well as the month to month billing. This is not changing.
Q. Can the Market be accessed from any location in-game or will there be a dedicated kiosk/auction-house landmark to interact with?
A. The Paragon Market will be an icon in the UI, accessible at any time.
Q. I keep seeing the phrase "later this year." Do you by chance mean the Hebrew calendar which ends on September 28th?
A. Later this year, by the Gregorian calendar.
Q. From a technical standpoint, having a Lifetime flag on an account should not be that hard. Saying that no Lifetimes will be available, to me, is saying that you expect us to pay per month versus the current 1, 3, 6, 12 plans. Would love a comment from someone in Billing to answer privately.
A. We will still be offering multi-month subscriptions.
Q. Will the Tier 9 paragon rewards (the consumables) be available on the Paragon Market?
A. Those are available both as Repeatable Rewards through the Paragon Rewards Program or by purchase in the Paragon Market. You have options!
Q. what will players get every 3 months? reward points instead of the monthly badges?
A. Reward Tokens are part of the Paragon Rewards program, which is separate from the Paragon Market. However, VIP players will receive 1 Paragon Reward Token per month.
Q. [Could not find the question]
A. That has to do with the Paragon Rewards program, which is different from the Market. Let's try to stick to the Paragon Market for today's Freedom Friday, folks. Thanks!
Q. How much will the new premium powersets cost, namely Street Justice and Beam Weapon?
A. We aren't discussing the prices of the purchasable power sets at this time.
Q. Will there be bundles and sales? If so, how many out of game emails should I be expecting from Paragon Studios each week or month?
A. There will be bundles, such as costume pack bundles. As for sales, yes! Keep your eyes peeled when the Paragon Market is available later this year!
Q. How much will the extra costume slots cost?
A. As ZombieMan said, current pricing is $4 per costume slot, or $20 for 5. These are currently target prices and are subject to change.
Q. When it comes to buying Paragon Points, are there plans to offer bulk discounts? So, for example, something like buying 2000 at once would be cheaper than 5 lots of 400?
A. With purchases of larger bundles of Paragon Points, you will get bonus points. These numbers are still being decided upon.
Q. I STILL can not connect to the game... What's going on? It's been since yesterday.
A. The legacy CoH Launcher is no longer supported, and will no longer access the game. Please use the NCsoft Launcher here: http://bit.ly/9kYx9l
Q. Don't know if you can answer this or not, but what would the schedule for adding new items to market be like? Is it roughly once a month, every 2 weeks, when ever the items for market is completed?
A. We will be adding new items to the Paragon Market every week.
Q. What are you going to do with that huge wave of money that comes in when the market goes live?
A. Use it to continue making City of Heroes the best super heroic MMO on the market, for our players. And with that, part 1 of Freedom Friday is done! We'll be taking a break until 1pm PDT (9pm BST). If you have more questions, or if your question didn't get answered, check back for part 2! Thanks all!

I don't want to throw in my two cents...but Freedom Friday shouldn't be a Q&A day since the questions we want answered are not going to get answered and if people read the main page, they can get those questions answered without asking them again and again.
Freedom Friday should be a reveal day where they reveal something small to medium regarding Freedom...
Just my two orange cents!

Will Enhancement Unslotters, Windfall, XP Boosters, and Enhancement Boosters be available on the Paragon Market? |
Edit:
Apparently I was right, not all tier 9 rewards will be available via the market, specifically the "Summon a Signature Hero" ability.

I'll point out that some of the questions being asked have no relation to the topic on hand (Paragon Market this week), and there are some questions that (shockingly) haven't been asked or answered in any official capacity.
For instance, players speculated that we could buy the Tier 9 rewards from the market as well, but it was confirmed today. They also confirmed that we'll be able to manage our subscription in game.

Part 2 is starting now! Come ask your questions about the Paragon Market!
Should this change we'll let you know.
At the beginning of July I paid for 6 months of subscription time on my two accounts (6 months each). This being after the Freedom announcement but obviously before CoH:Freedom launch. I'm going with the assumption that the Paragon Rewards system will be live before my next renewal date here - given that my next renewal is still five months out, I'm sticking with this assumption - wrong or not.
On launch day (let's just make up a date and say September 1st, my payment is generally processed on July 5th and January 5th - roughly) So, my "billing date" goes in a few days after this hypothetical launch date, BUT my actual payment was processed two months prior for a six month span. On the "billing date" after CoH:F goes live, will I then get:
1. No PRT until my next PAYMENT processes (since everyone else will get their tokens at time of payment processing)
2. 1 PRT on each monthly billing date until my next payment goes through, at which time I'd get a lump of tokens for however many months I paid for at that time.
3. Lump sum of PRTs for remaining paid subscription time (in my hypothetical dated scenario, 4 remaining months of paid time, thus 4 tokens) - if this is the case:
3a. would those be granted on CoH:F launch day or
3b. would they be granted on my first billing date post launch
One additional question relevant that I am not sure if it has been answered: When is the annual token rewarded?
a. The next billing date following our yearly anniversary
b. On our actual subscription or payment anniversary date (in general this /should/ line up with a billing date, but depending on how non-paid time worked under the system we have now, it might be a little off of the billing date for some people I'd think...I could be wrong)
c. When we pay for time that will push us through as paid beyond our next yearly anniversary - as in, if I pay for a year and my anniversary date falls in the middle of it all, do I get 13 tokens at time of payment or only 12 with the yearly one to be granted as in one of the two above options?
And if my scenarios and possible answers for those scenarios to play out don't work for what actually will happen - please assume there is an "other" answer for either of those and elaborate as much as marketing will allow, pretty please?
