It is also a way of saying that no one can direct a Superman movie like he could, which so far, is true.

32 years, I think.

Am I the only person who can't stand the old Superman films?

Nothing against Reeve's version of the Man of Steel, just the films.

I've always disliked them, too. I never did believe a man could fly. However, Reeve was good, and the solution Luthor came up with to vex him was brilliant. Everything else though... ugh.

I thought that George Reeve couldn't be replaced...

Nope. I like Reeves' Superman just fine, but the rest is pretty ridiculous. Hackman's Luthor in particular was awful (not his fault that he was given the role of a cartoonish idiot, but that's what the character was).

The problem is there are no more epic tales than Superman's origin, hence the constant retelling. There was so much story in the first Superman, so much attention to detail, it simply felt "bigger" than the rest.

You really think it was brilliant?

Boom, story's over.

I hope the next movie as it is a reboot, glosses over the origin. By now I think pretty much everyone should know the basics of superman's origin

There is a version of the first two movies out there which is called the "Donner Original Edition" or something like that. Essentially Films 1 and 2 were meant to be one big film. Personally I thought it was a damn good movie but very different from the movies that were released.

Say what you will about those movies, but Christopher Reeve owned that role. I mean he fit the bill of Superman in such an iconic fashion that his version of Superman is the one all other actors will be compared to. I wouldn't be surprised if it's part of the reason other Superman movies have had a hard time being made because it's hard to compare to Reeve.

I think Christopher Reeve was great, and the score was great, but just about everything else about those movies was awful.
