We Are All Canucks
Ohh baby, nothing like a game 7.
Game 7 is where the Canadian advantage shows most clearly. Either Vancouver is going to win quickly, or the game is going to end up in Overtime. It shall be entertaining, anyway.

I want my B's to win, but either way I will be able to say I watched an excellent series.

I have to say this has been one of the most entertaining cup series I have seen in a long time. It may be that my experience is heightened by being fan of one the teams in the finals, but there has been (IMHO) some truly extraordinary hockey played over the last six games.

I can't help but feel it's going to be a repeat of the last 3 games in Vancouver, a defensive 1-0 battle with my boys on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Some may see a pattern that the home team has the advantage. I see a pattern that the Bruins take the "MUST WIN" games (to avoid 3-0, 3-1 and getting closed out) and Vancouver takes the less urgent games. Can't get more urgent than game 7...

I hate to say it but the Canucks might be in tough tomorrow. They are ravaged by injury and the refs aren't calling the Bruins on their rough/after whistle crap. I am getting nervous! Game 7, here we come!!!!

The injuries for the Canucks have to be eating at defensive endurance though, so if there is another critically tight game it could factor significantly.
What ultimately matters is that the series has been incredibly entertaining and stretches of it have just been outstanding. Really, which ever team wins will have truly earned the right to hoist the cup.
There's been more than enough extracurricular activity on both sides - so not sure I'd hang my hat on any of that.

Mike Murphy is being two-faced when you compare the Rome/Horton hit to the Boychuk/Raymond hit. Both hits were over a second from the player getting hit having possession, both hits were penalty worthy (Boychuk should have been called on obstruction for having his stick between Raymond's legs), and both caused serious injury. Horton is mobile and has come to Vancouver to watch the game, where as Raymond can't be moved from hospital yet. Raymond might not play again until November.
Either Rome didn't deserve a 4 game suspension or Boychuk needs to be benched.

Good luck tonight.

I'd really hope the double standard shown by the officials and the league doesn't carry over to tonight.

Anyway, being a Bostonian and having a few die-hard Bruins fan friends, I have to root for the Bs tonight. (Besides, Paragon City is close to Boston, right?) Let's hope it's a good game!

I'm not even qualified to play a hockey fan on TV, but to my untrained eye I'd have to disagree. Rome clearly accelerated after Horton had passed the puck. I do think Boychuk should have been given an interference penalty, but didn't need to be suspended.

Q. Mike, can you walk us through the hit, the way you viewed it when you slowed it down and watched it in real-time. Do you think it was blindside or not? MIKE MURPHY: I probably viewed it like most of you did. I thought it was a late hit. I thought that the body was contacted. But I also thought that the head was hit. It caused a serious injury to Nathan Horton. So the key components are: the late hit, which I had it close to a second late. We have our own formula at NHL Hockey Operations for determining late hits, and it was late. We saw the seriousness of the injury with Nathan on the ice last night. That's basically what we deliberated on. We tried to compare it with some of the other ones in the past. But it stands alone. It's why we made the ruling. |
And he goes on to say:
Q. The suspension was for the lateness of the hit. MIKE MURPHY: Yes. The lateness combined with the injury. |
Heck, even Chara did the exact same type of hit on a Canadiens player (Max Pacioretty), causing more damage (a severe concussion and a non-displaced fractured fourth cervical vertebra in his neck after being hit into a glass partition between the benches), without suspension. What are hockey fans to gather from that double standard? It looks like no one wants to discipline the outgoing boss's son's team. Colin Campbell should have ceased being the NHL disciplinarian when his son started playing in the league.
Boston shows a clear pattern of play. From my perspective, an unwelcome style. I don't want any player injured. Not for Boston, not for the Canucks, not for any other player in the league. I'm worried about a repeat of the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. Instead of a player being taken off the ice to the hospital, the next player taken off the ice might go to the morgue.
I think that everyone watching would agree with that. I hope it is a game where skill decides the victory, not who beat the stuffing out of the other team.

Intent is 9/10ths of the law, Snow Globe. The hit caused injury, but mainly due to it being awkward. The player that got his head taken off in the center of the ice was subjected to a lot of intent to do just what the offending player did. If the player with the injured back had hit the boards normally (standing up), he would have been fine. Chara's hit on the Canadien player was also a freak thing, and more a problem with the design of the boards/glass than what either player did.
I don't remember anyone getting suspended for an accident, especially in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Not sure why Canucks fans are booing Bettman, but it's pretty classless. Be a graceful loser, gang. I'd be embarrassed if that were my team.
Congrats, Boston. You wanted it more in the last two games.

I do want to give hats off to the mature Canuck fans, like White Hot Flash for taking the loss for what it is and not shirking responsibility by blaming the refs, the NHL execs

Very glad Thomas just came up HUGE with another shutout after Luongo was talking crap.
Congrats, Vancouver on a great season.
Whoohoo, Boston!!!
(You play better, you win. Even if the other team is supposed to be superior. It is a simple lesson... And you lose this time, you tip your hat to the other guy and hope to take him next time.)
1) I didn't think the officiating was really all that off
2) This was THE MOST penalized Stanley Cup Finals in history
3) The Canucks consistently failed to capitalize on the power play opportunities they did have, scoring exactly 1 goal on PP.
