I certainly don't mean to impugn it by any means (I've been pen and paper roleplaying for 30+ years).

I don't do that. I don't really know that I've ever done it in this game or any other MMO. I just play what is available to play without any concern about what that character might do, simply because I don't think out that angle.

I consider the MMO environment not conducive to roleplaying as I wish to do it, so I don't even try. As always YMMV.
If everybody felt the way you did there wouldn't have been a slew of "Lore pets suck" threads. From a pure performance standpoint, they don't. There wouldn't be complaints about the Incarnate storyline infringing on character concepts, because, oooh, shiny new powers. That there were shows that a large number of players don't play like you. All the character bios and sub-optimal power combos I see in game indicate that a large number of players don't play like you.

Your playstyle is perfectly valid, but it can very well exist alongside ours. In fact, nothing we do or that the devs add to help us do what we do infringes on your playstyle in any way. You can just ignore it like you ignore everything else "RP"-related. Other people though, who feel concept is important, won't play at all if they aren't allowed to realize their character concepts.

Indeed. I can tell you right now that if it weren't for the stories that this game has inspired me to write, I wouldn't have made it past the first six months. I like my characters' stories a LOT more than I like the actual game.

I was going to respond to buzzard, but I see it's not necessary.

No doubt there's plenty in both camps. I have plenty in my SG which have extensive backgrounds for their mains and such. I really have no issue with the devs catering to such player since, as you say, it doesn't have any negative impact on me.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with the RP concerns until they get unrealistic in their demands of dev time. For example, I don't have a beef with there being a solo path. It will just have to be hard and fairly time consuming. The problem is people can't seem willing to accept that resources are limited and some things have to be developed before others. At the moment some people are seeing every dev utterance in the context of "does this mean we get solo incarnate stuff NOW?" and that gets tiresome.

The current trials (and the next two) have been in the works for a while now. The trial plans are not going to be dropped to pursue the solo path. Companies don't work that way. The devs have said they will address the solo path issue, and you can believe them or not. While I understand people are quite concerned about the topic harping on it in the short term, when the message has been communicated it just gets to be nagging.

Too many alts to list.

I would say the WST route isn't a "pretty valid incarnate advancement path."

Even if I only have time to run one team oriented shindig a week for my incarnate path, the wst is not what I would run. In my books, weird as it may be, it is an inefficiant use of my play time, and that is enough to make it obsolete for me.
