Why run Keyes Island?

It can't be - the endgame system is here to punish us - I read that in another thread.

I thought the global Help channel was to punish us?

Looking at the guide, it sounds considerably more complex and difficult than the existing trials, but as of now it only gives experience towards Incarnate slots the other trials already do. Unlocking and slotting Incarnate abilities is what drove people to BAF. When it comes down to grinding for their stuff, people will take the path of least resistance, and right now most people think that's the BAF.

So what is the motivation to run KI more than once, if at all? It would have to award many more Astral and E-merits than the existing trials, given what it sounds like on paper. And more to the point, did we really need a third, harder option for ground that was already covered?

.
Because its fun

Wait, what?
To unlock all four slots doing only one of the two currently live trials you'd have to get all the iXP for two of the slots by spending inf and threads. That's... not terribly efficient. OTOH it is very J_B.

Four days, four T4s. Up 1.2 billion inf, down a modest amount of (now near useless) Shards.
Efficient enough to me.

Probably could have got them in half the time if I was really trying. It's easy, especially if you know how to play and don't waste time on floundering trial teams or FaiLambda.

So the next round of Incarnate slots is going to be when...?

Because until then, provided obtaining the next 4 or 5 slots are somehow tied to Keyes Island, I have no reason to touch Keyes Island.

"When Anti-Matter reaches certain health thresholds, he locally freezes time and space and retreats to a generator. When he reaches the generator, the freeze breaks, but he begins healing rapidly as he channels energy out of the reactors and through his body. The healing can be interrupted by destroying the four terminals at the base of the generator--or if he fully recovers."

Dammit, I wanted to stop the flow of time!

But can you turn back time?

Uh...fun*?

You have 5 Incarnate slots, 3 of them are actual powers. Keyes Island is new content for you to use those powers on. If that's not enough then man, I don't even know what to say to you.

*Going with the assumption that Keyes Island actually is fun, of course.

*heh* Like i said in my previous post...
Maybe i don't know the right people to team with (on two different servers, at more or less random times as the whim takes me), but out of the dozens of iTrials i've been on three have failed. Two of those were BAF. Out of the two trials i actually like Lambda more, but then i run the trials to have fun.

i get the impression from this thread you don't do anything in game because you think the activity is fun or challenging in itself, it's all to gain more shinies. Which is a perfectly valid reason/way to play, it's just one i personally have great difficulty understanding.

Then again i sometimes spend a while toying with grey con mobs using various powers simply to see what sort interesting behaviors i can induce in the game's AI and physics engine. i'll also amuse myself fighting regular mobs in ways that are very inefficient in terms of time to defeat for the same reason. i imagine that's almost as incomprehensible to you.

Posisbly I22 - but Positron said it was unlikely that they'd release multiple slots at once again.

No, I do plenty of things just for fun that don't really "net a profit" or make the absolute best use of my in-game time.

Street sweeping tons of Rikti in the RWZ. Writing AE arcs no one will ever play because they get buried under farming dreck. Soloing AVs just because. Running TFs I already have the badge for. Helping sewer teams by being a pocket taunt bot.

But those things aren't wasting an hour in Keyes Island with 23 'teammates' who can't follow direction, wont read a guide beforehand to understand the general procedure and getting bitchslapped every 30 seconds by a sadistic designer's Antimatter Pulse take on 'rocks fall, everyone dies' while trying to jump through their hoops for the most tenuous of conceptual justifications just to earn in-game currency at a slightly faster rate that will likely be made obsolete when they introduce whatever new currency or merit that will be used for the next bunch of Slots and not even getting a new power or ability to play with out of the deal.

But ask me how I really feel.

Bitter?
Angry?
Disgruntled?

(i really don't know why you have so much difficulty finding good teammates for these trials. i know dozens of people across several servers who frequently run trials and are happy to invite me on whatever alt i feel like playing at the moment.)

the only way i know of greifing on a BAF is to use phasing/caging powers (such as dimension shift or detention field) on LT ranked escapees because they are immune to the immob component of the power and are running by essentially unkillable

You could do minor griefing by clicking on the tower controls to deny folks the bonus astral merit you get for leaving them alone. Since most groups pull the AV's out of sight of the towers, its generally considered par to leave the controls alone for the bonus merit.

Pretty petty though, certainly compared to leading Maurader outside the walls in lambda to cause the trial to fail completely.
