[QUOTE=NobleFox;3644709]Furthermore, why do I have to buy a pack of 98% crap I'm not interested in because they decided to cram something we've been asking for for years (decent looking formal dresses for women) for years in with it?

Actually, that doesn't look like a decent full length dress. There's plenty of leg showing. It looks like a bustle, a lower-half robe and the Angelic tights. There ia a lace bustle and a draped bustle over tights. No dress.

I have to say I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed this so much!!!

Very well done, Cheryl and Team and this was also a great and fun trailer!!!

My only complain is that I will still have to wait 1 week to buy this !!

Job Well Done!

Congrats

The great thing is, you don't have to buy it. Nothing in it is required to play the game. It's merely an add-on for those who would be interested in further costume options.

Really can't understand some of the vitriol aimed at NCSoft for this. It's clear that costume packs are becoming the norm, and they appear to be successful, based on the people that use them on Infinity (my home server). Why wouldn't NCSoft continue to use a tried and proven sales strategy? They are like every other business in the world; they need revenue and profit to ensure that they stay in business.

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

If they would just port that baron-esque coat over to the ladies, I would be completely happy. Other than that one concern, I love this, and WANT!
I've got several characters who will use the new pinstriped pants, and I'm sure I'll find lots of uses for the other parts for a fun game of mix-and-match as well.
I can't wait to get my paws on this!

When are we going to get some of this stuff released that's available to everyone for no more than the cost of the subscription fee?

Don't get me wrong, I love every costume piece and bit of customization in this pack. By far it is the most extensive and well-done pack we've seen yet. However, it's filled with things that all the players have been requesting since the game went gold more than seven years ago. Making them pay extra for these things when they've already sunk hundreds and hundreds of dollars into the game just in subscription fees feels like a slap in the face. "Backpacks, you say? Dresses (sort of)? Yeah, we know you wanted these from day one. We know you've been paying us every month since then and have expected us to deliver them eventually. And guess what, now we have! But if you want to use it at all, you gotta pay even more! Ain't life grand?!" That's bad faith, guys. And you even upgrade face textures but don't replace the old ones? You're actually expecting people to pay for higher res maps of existing textures? What the heII is that?!

Microtransactions should be limited to niche stuff that wouldn't exist at all if it weren't for the microtransactions themselves, not the things everyone has always wanted and ought to be scheduled and budgeted for in normal game development.

Try telling that to the men in suits and in marketting who are actually in charge of how this stuff goes.

Development time needs to be budgetted. Back packs have never been made before because extra work was required to make them available, and the time/budget for that was never there. Now they moved the development out of the regular issue development budget/time and towards that of this boosterpack.

These packs have been a testbed for new techologies from the very start. Combat auras, costume change emotes, ... have been introduced first with a booster pack and later made available with regular releases. The same thing will be the case with back packs and bump mapped faces.

Without boosterpacks this stuff might take ages to get here or not come at all. This is what the boosterpacks do for this game and what you buy with your money if you get them.

Holy crap you're right. I never thought of that before... I mean, I never realized that the Skyraider Jetpack, or the Zero-G Pack (which is just a Malta jetpack), or the Jingle Jet, or the GVE Jump Pack, weren't actual backpacks. It makes so much sense now. That makes all this totally fine.

... Yeah, not buying it.

I guarantee that more people wanted the kind of stuff we're getting with this pack than all the Incarnate crap they've been spewing at us lately. Make that a paid expansion and give us the costume options for free.

That said, yeah, I would like to see old sets (and NPCs) get the love they really badly need six years on. I would also like to see more added outside of Packs.
But, ultimately, at least we are slowly getting what we've asked for.
Quite right, my bad. I've been revisiting that other game and trying to figure out if I love it more than hate it.

And yes, we are, in dribs and drabs, getting some of what we've asked for. Can't argue with that- only with the method of delivery.

I have played CoH since beta, but never bought any of the booster packs for it.

This one, though... may have finally made me drop the $10. Mostly because of the magnificent trailer for it, and because I already have a level 10 praetorian defender that it would look perfect on.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

Eh. This has actually been enough to shove me out the door. 7 years is a good run, but eventually all things come to an end. Have fun both paying a monthly fee and being squeezed for desirable costume pieces like the F2P hero game does. And at higher prices than the F2P game does as well.

Yes, those backpacks that only activate with a temp power, clip horribly with Huge models and float off the back of small models, don't scale and don't colour and weren't actually perma-locked to a skeleton anchor point.

But that would totally defeat the point of your diatribe, now wouldn't it?

They aren't actual backpacks, try equiping one with the huge sliders maxed out... it doesn't show at all. That is the reason we haven't had cosmetic backpacks to date. They needed to figure out how to get them to look good on all model sizes. I believe they are making them scale with one of the sliders so they work.

They did... it was called Going Rogue...

This post only goes to show your ignorance, because indeed "they weren't actual backpacks" as far as the costumes are concerned. Those things are all power effects. They just float near your back. They don't rescale with your avater, they're not colourable, they're not actual costume pieces, they're not a part of your character. And, yes, npc with backpacks are an entirely different thing as well.

Actual costume pieces need an attachment point on the character skeleton, a different one for each category, and I believe they had run out of those (or very near to). So, yes extra work was required to make backpacks work.

The second part of your 'rebuttal' is so dumb I'm not even going to bother with it.

Addendum: There should also be SteamPonehs to celebrate the release of the Steampunk pack. You all know it makes sense.

June 1 = First day of fiscal year. Otherwise, I suspect we could already buy this pack. Stupid tax laws!

I plan on buying this, btw.

Can you add the old school Arachnos outfits? Perhaps a steampunk mace for banes?

The steampunk booster trailer looks amazing! I have to actually check it out before I can render my final verdict, but I think it will probably end up as my favorite booster.

I remember talking to Noble Savage at the San Diego Comic Con party last year about ideas for a steampunk booster and I am very impressed with what I have seen. It seems to have just about everything I have been wanting. Hats with goggles on them was on the top of my wish list so I am very glad to see them.

I wish people would stop complaining about the booster packs 'taking away' content or resources from the game. The whole point of the booster packs is to provide additional revenue that allows them the resources to create more content. The booster packs actually cause more content to be created. Granted, some of it is exclusive to the booster, but that's how they get us to buy it, so it has to be exclusive.

When the Wedding Pack (the first booster) came out, its success allowed them to hire more people to work on the game to the benefit of us all. This is what the boosters are for. The only other way to get that extra content would be for them to raise everyone's monthly fee.

Wouldn't GvE be the first booster?

Not really since Good vs Evil is the bundling of CoH and CoV as one product with some extra content thrown in. Granted, they released just the extra content as a de facto booster for players who already had CoH and CoV, but the content wasn't created for the booster so much as the booster was created for the already-made content.

I consider the first real booster to be the Wedding Pack since that is when they first decided to create some additional, theme-based content to be sold as a stand-alone product. They have stated publicly that the success of the Wedding Pack allowed them to hire more staff.

It has great pieces and auras are awesome. Shame that you can't color the guns. The Steam Jump pack is awesome, flight and jump in same.

And thanks for the code.
