I like In and Out, but both them and Steak and Shake have consistency issues among restaurants. I first went to In and Out in San Francisco and didn't think it was anything special. I went to this one in San Diego last year and it was phenomenal. I've had similar experiences at Steak and Shake.

But Five Guys is consistently good and better IMO than either. Culver's (another midwest chain like Steak and Shake) specializes in Wisconsin's Butterburgers and they are very good most times.

I feel sorry for folks who can't have Italian Beefs on a regular basis. (I can't either but that's because my wife won't let me. )

I'll give it a fair chance, trying out a few variations, but it's going to need to impress me pretty quickly.
I love me some 5 guys burgers as well. I don't know what the strip is called, but it's on the strip mall/ city between Keller and Grapevine.

In-n-Out is fine, but as I remember I was more impressed with the fries than the burgers. Not that the burgers were bad - I remember thinking they were good. I think that Five Guys is better. The fries are excellent as well.

I'm with ya Hyperstrike. While in LA last summer with a group of friends, we went there and, "meh"...it's a burger joint. Nothing special, nothing bad...

Edit: Oh and I don't care for Five Guys' fries...stupid peanut oil messing up the goodness of fries (same goes for Chick-fil-A)

Krispy Kremes, right off the line, are a melt-in-the-mouth experience. After they cool down, they are not that special.

I will never forget my introduction to the joy of a hot Krispy Kreme. I had been out of town at school, and my step-brother and I went out for an evening. We bought a couple of pints of cold milk and got a dozen glazed hot off the line. As odd as it sounds, it was one of those special bonding moments with someone you are close to . . . just sitting in the car, letting those delightful doughnuts melt in the mouth and talking about how good they were.

Well I get my first taste of In-n-out in about 2 weeks when I go down to visit the folks. But if you all want a good burger and are ever in Tulsa, OK. Check out BrewBurger on 71st in-between Memorial and Sheridan. Locally owned and very very tasty!

It's probably better to give it a few months, anyway. Conventional wisdom from when I lived in SoCal and a new one opened up nearby was that it wasn't as good because the grill wasn't properly seasoned through use.

Like every Big Lebowski fan, I had to try In-N-Out Burger when I was in LA. I didn't find it to be anything special. Better than the average fast food, but I wouldn't eat it regularly if there was one in town.

If you're ever in Calgary, Alberta, go to Peter's Drive-In for the best fast food burger in the world.

I think I have a very bland tongue for most fast foods. A burger and french fries just tastes like a burger and french fries no matter if it comes from McD, BK, DQ or Sonic. Maybe that's why I don't eat fast food very often...

But pizza's a whole other story. We have crap options for pizza where I'm at but when I go out of town, I'm always asking who's got the best pizza in town.

I haven't had In and Out, but Five Guys is pretty good. Culver's is around Wendy's and fairly decent. Steak and Shake though, um no. It's way too thin and I have to get a double just to make it worth it. Best burger I have had is from Miller's in MI though. It's a local place that has a line out the door, no menu unless you ask for it, and it's just a plain no window building. It's always considered one of the best in the Detroit area. The double meat is one part burger heaven and one part you fearing the future heart attack. In all honesty, if I can cook a burger on my grill better than you, your burger isn't really that good. Sadly that can be said for far too many known burger places.

I always laugh at people who ask for "Chicago Style" pizza when they come into town.

There's two types. The deep-dish which most of you bloody furriners (basically anyone not born and bred in the Chicago area) think of. Plus there's the crispy thin crust Even in the burbs it's hard to find thin crust Chicago Style that's any good.

And a lot of the best places for it are these little hole-in-the-wall joints.

Then you have your standard thick-crust pizza.

Then you have atrocities like California Pizza Kitchen *MMPHH!*
Sorry just threw up in my mouth a little...*MMPHH!* Make that a LOT.
If that's what they're calling pizza in the Cali, I never, EVER want to go back there.

Newsflash: Yet another California Pizza Kitchen has gone up in a ball of nuclear flame. This is the thirteenth one this evening...

Is Goldie's still in business? I used to eat there all the time. IIRC it was pretty close to that same area. Not the best burger I ever had, but it was an interesting joint back in the day.

Let me guess, its called In and Out Burger for obvious reasons right?

The nearest In-N-Out to me (Atlanta, GA) is in Allen, Texas--820 miles away, according to Google Maps, and would take me 13 hours and 50 minutes to reach.

Thanks, but I suppose that I'll just stick with Wendy's and an occasional Five Guys burger. (I'd probably eat Five Guys every day if I could get away with it and not die in a month from my heart exploding.)

If you're ever in Atlanta and want a burger with local flavor, though, you have to go to The Vortex in Midtown. Scary? A little, but damn, it's good. Be sure to read the "Rules" section. It has such nuggets as, "If you order something that is not on the menu and we do make it for you, we will charge you whatever damn price we want to and you will thank us for it...Requested deletions will not reduce the price of any menu item, tightwad."

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

There are a few Goldie's left in Tulsa, one at 51st Lewis. They have an awesome pickle bar if any of you want to know!

I have seen this place mentioned elsewhere and wished I were in Atlanta long enough to try the place.

In 'n Out = okay, but not all that and a bag of chips, as it were.
Five Guys = discovered upon moving to Seattle. Yum.
Culver's = also quite good, and they were damn accommodating to John and me when we were on restricted diets.
Fatburger = generally nom. Depends on the location.

Then there's the pizza thing. I'm from New York. I KNOW New York style pizza. (I also know New York cheesecake.) I laugh long and hard and LOUDLY in places that advertise having either and fail to meet expectations. There was ONE place in ALL of Arizona that made New York style pizza, and that was NYPD Pizza. I have not yet found a Seattle equivalent.

Now I'm hungry, damn it.

Well, that's one of the reasons White Castle burgers are called "sliders".

You couldn't get me to wait in that line even if they gave it to me free. In-N-Out is pretty good but it's not *that* good. 8 bucks for a Double-Double combo, animal style, and 10 bucks for wasted gas. Crazy...

Edit: Come to think of it, are these people waiting in the line even employed? How do they expect to get through that line, eat and get back to work, all with just an one hour lunch break?

I'm just guessing that many of these folks are from out of town and made the trip just to get the burger. Last month, a Cabella's opened nearby and people kept their kids out of school for the grand opening. Folks in this area are kinda nutz for these events

BTW: I did not make the video.
