We've given it all away before, BrandX. In fact, we did last time we left, and when we came back just before Going Rogue, we had nothing. What we're giving away on Saturday is what's left of what we've built in the last nine or so months, after we've put together some fun builds on characters we play and enjoy.
There are some names we will be parting with. There will be a couple 50s that end up getting deleted. We won't be deleting all of our characters, however, not because we might come back, but because we really believe in the legacy their names hold. Characters like Hero Prime, Mr. Zen, Winsome Blue, and Fiera Arcane will remain on our accounts, unplayed, forever (or at least until NCsoft decides to take them back) because of the history they have in the game world.
Where do we go from here?
Unfortunately I won't be around Saturday night to try for any of the prizes, but if I may ask, are you, by chance, holding any of the following names...?

What you should do is find people you trust in-game to carry on these legacy characters. Like comics do.
Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.

While it is sad to see you both go, I have tons of respect for you two going out this way, it's a great way to give back. It is a generous way to give back (not to mention the priceless names you intend to release!). Best of luck with real life and other future endeavors, I'll keep in touch!

My wife and I have been playing City of Heroes off and on since late in beta, and it's been amazing, but the time has come for us to move on. We're focusing on making some sweeping changes - better fitness, more time spent with the kids - and will not be returning. Now, we've left before, and even once decided we'd never be back, but this time, well... we never really felt it before, and this time we do. It's real.
You folks, the people of Virtue, have made our stay here one of smiles and tears, of joy and pain, of good times and bad. That was your gift to us - to make us feel at home, and give of yourselves, for roleplaying, banter, teaming, and just having fun. Now we want to give something back to you.
This Saturday at 10PM Central my wife, Fiera Arcane, and I will be hosting a costume/trivia/bio/whatever contest. We've got some excellent prizes lined up. For instance...
